I would say people who become monsters or machines is also workable. Indestructible Man, The H Man, Altered States, Tetsuo, Videodrome, Jekyll and Hyde...it's a really common monster archetype with routes going back as far as the Metamorphoses. Mummies really are nowhere near as iconic as zombies have become, and they're really kind of a golem archetype, being shuffling animated constructs as they are. Also interesting are machines that turn on people and places of sentient evil.

Mutated animals
Mysterious sea creatures
Giant Squid
Giant animals
Generally scary animals or creatures. lol

I always liked those cheesy Japanese films about giant monsters stomping cities flat.

Oh yes, I have seen Gorilla At Large, they used to play that on TV all the time, and it's a fun movie.
