I'd like to know as well. Many people have been mentioning this too me for years now, but I don't know how to get it. Sorry if I got your hopes up for an answer ferret.

Not a problem. Love the new avatar BTW.

To those who are asking how you get Photoshop - it is a commercial program (ie buy it from a shop). I think you can download a free trial from Adobe's website ( www.adobe.com ).

There are probably other programs that do the same thing (although I haven't tried them).

There is a free program called GIMP ( www.gimp.org ) that is supposed to be very close to Photoshop in functionality. There is even a version called GIMPshop that has a similar user interface to Photoshop.

Although I haven't tried, what you need is a paint or image editing program that will let you specify the pixel dimensions of your picture, and then alter the quailty of JPEG that you are saving.

Thanks ManchestrMorgue. I'm going to try the Gimp because it's free and tell you how it is.

so it's agreed. YJ plays around with gimp and tells us how it was.

:D

Well, I'm having trouble downloading it, but I'll figure it out. If not, then I'll pass the torch to you ferret. Deal?

i never liked GIMP. I use paint.net. It's free aswell, and compact. Has a site full of tutorials too.

I haven't tried paint.net - will it allow you to specify pixel dimensions and JPEG quality? If it does, it would be quite suitable.

I am sure a number of the free image editing programs would do the job - it's not a high-end function. But I am not sure if/how they would do it as my experience has been with Photoshop.

If you guys are really stuck, I would be happy to install a free program on my computer and work out how to do it, and post instructions.

So see how you go and if there is no joy, let me know.

ferretchucker 11-27-2007 07:31 AM

yeh, as soon as I can choose the number of pixels I'll be fine.
