THE FLY is a good idea for a movie, but it's a limited idea. That's why the sequels (RETURN OF THE FLY, CURSE OF THE FLY and THE FLY II) all suck.

As for another remake, the two existing versions pretty much milked the concept dry. There's nothing left.

I love the Cronenberg film, but the original film is still worth watching - a bit slow here and there but pretty sincere, with some great images.

It might not be as solid as the terrific Cronenberg original (remake), but FX man Chris Walas did a nice job of creating another doomed romance via some choice body horror, though this time with a slightly disappointing happy ending... great to see the commupance of the head Bartok guy of course, after what he did to the dog.

I loved Return of the Fly. Perhaps as much as The Fly.

I actually sort of enjoy RETURN OF THE FLY in a late-night creature-features kind of way. Maybe I shouldn't have lumped it in with CURSE OF THE FLY and said it sucked, but it is pretty silly, what with the gian fly head and the bogus happy ending.

I guess I kind of like it in the same sort of way.

Haven't seen the original, but growing up as a kid I loved the Jeff Goldblum one, I think I watched it a couple of years back and thinking it aged surprisingly well.

Only recently did I catch the Venus fly trap in one of the scenes. Nice touch.

Actually like the 1958 version better than the 1986 one...seems to focus on the story more than a bunch of goo that Cronenberg throws out.
Sequels are OK and an animal lover like me felt bad at what happened to the cat (THE FLY 58) and the dog (THE FLY 2 1988).
Vincent Price mentioned that he and Herbert Marshall had a hard time filming the end scene with the spider as they kept laughing and blowing the take. Finally had to look away from each other.

We should appreciate all the Fly movies for their own merits, even the older and newer sequels. I do love the Goldblum version the best however. There's just something about his unique weirdness that makes his character believable.
