I would say that a chick flick could be defined as any film that is made as a vehicle intended only to employ a "feel-good" message aimed at women- you know, girl power.

Legally Blonde, Just Like Heaven, 27 Dresses, etc.

These films were made with women in mind- that's it. There was no other target audience.

Yeah like those Order of the Pants movies or wherever they're called.

Any film made for a female target audience that results in demeaning and patronizing them by its lack of good sense is a chick flick. Example: About a Boy possesses intelligence and pathos and has a well written script. It is sort of made for a female audience. Not a chick flick. 13 going on 30 was written by monkeys and has nothing going for it but the kind of saccharine emptiness the stereotypical braindead female studios have targeted it towards is looking for.

see - i completely disagree with that assessment of that particular movie ..
i found the entheusiastic performance of the lead to be contagiously engaging..

just a fun movie - an alternative to 'Big'

didnt want to bother starting a thread for this - so i'll derail my own ..

just got back from the specialist appointment.

apparently the arthritis in my knee is far worse than the tear - so they're trying a series of injections into the knee instead of surgery ...
the injections will replace the natural lubricant my knee isnt producing at this time.

possibly good news (got the 1st shot immediately - need 2 more - once each week for the next couple of weeks..

if this works i'll be one happy mo-fo

Sex and the city

a definite chick flick

Definitive chick flicks are character driven stories with romance and/or emotional growth of the main character, usually a female or a group of females. Conflict is generally in the form of a significant other or a life threatening illness. Climax is always emotional as opposed to action driven. Examples of definitive "chick flicks":

Steel Magnolias
Fried Green Tomatoes
The Jane Austen Book Club
Stepmom
Beaches

Not so typical, but still falling into the category:
Thelma and Louise
Pretty Woman
