Hey Chrono- how bout Home Movie... or was it Home Movies?

Elvis_Christ 04-24-2010 05:54 PM

Shit I forgot about Fido, Trick R Treat and Bug. Brilliant stuff for sure.

Borderland and Severance were terrible and illustrate how artistically bankrupt and derivative a lot of the genre's out put has been over the last decade. I personally wouldn't put them on a list like this... but it does point out how a good 90% of recent horror flicks are average at best.

Here are some others that also I think worth to mention:

2006:
The Descent
The Hills have eyes
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
Right at your Door
Silent Hill
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

2007:
Alone (Thai Horror)
Dead Silence
Frontier(s)
Rob Zombie's Halloween
Mr. Brooks
Stuck
Teeth

2008:
The Cottage (2008)

2009:
Grace
Halloween II
Triangle

I thought The Descent was made in 2005; if not, it would be at the top of my list.
Mr. Brooks was a great film too.

I don't care..
- Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007)
- Rob Zombie's Halloween II (2009)
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
- Friday the 13th (2009)
- A Nightmare on Elm street (2010)
- Grindhouse presents: Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof" (2007)
- Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
- Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects (2005)

Yes! Home Movie was FANTASTIC - Forgot to mention it here - gave it a nod in the Bad Seed thread.

YOU'RE terrible. OH - SNAP.

Why do people on HDC hate on Severance? I thought it was a lot of fun. People liked The Cabin, but hated Severance?

Borderland definitely had its weaknesses, but it shocked me a bit when I saw it in the theater. I still maintain it's a great indie movie, though I've only watched it once; who knows if it'll stand up after repeat viewings...

YES. Good call. Most of the movies on your list I haven't seen - I shall update my Netflix queue. :D

Everything in Borderland has just been done 100000000000000000000000 times before over the last five or six years, there was some nicely filmed scenes here and there tho I'll give it that. A lot better than Turistas but totally mehhhhhh.

I wanted to like Severance but I just found it annoying. Never seen The Cabin because I figured it would be the same kinda deal. Horror Comedies are something that's very hit and miss for me. I prefer more subtlety.

Yeh man. I like unintentional laughs at a films expense and get more of a kick out of them than conventional comedies :)

TheWickerFan 05-05-2010 05:28 AM

I agree, Elvis. The horror movies that are done in deadly earnest , but just make you laugh are the most entertaining.
