It's a sad situation, each day that pass more music shops closes. When I was younger I use to spend a lot of time lookin' for new albums... |

There's a couple of junk stores that get the odd decent LP in and there's a couple of mainstream stores but they don't get anything interesting in. I grab the odd cheap bin gem on CD but that's about as exciting as it gets. I miss digging around for records... I'd love to have the cash to start my own store the town's just screaming out for one. I'm out of town for the week so I'm lookin' forward to digging thru some record stores |

FURR by Blitzen Trapper. Title song may be of interest to horror fans. About a 17 year old who turns into a wolf and when he turns 23 reverts back to human to raise kids with a girl he scared the crap out of. Sounds silly but it's a great song and a really good album.

Just picked up Dirty Projectors' new record Bitte Orca, which is pretty great. They've really streamlined their sound; avant-garde rock/R&B filtered through conventional songwriting. Very impressive. I think this might be the best album of the year for me so far. |

I've yet to give Situation a listen just yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I do. I've been a fan of his for a long while now, but I only know assorted songs - never actually listened to a full album. Highly recommend checking him out though, if you're into this kind of music. A few tracks I'd suggest: Wicked and Weird http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wyyVh3uc5Y Surrender to Strangeness http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I67MoB9_Djk (Couldn't find a good video - best I could do) Kennedy Killed the Hat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oKYuOITDQk I'll probably give Situation a good going over tomorrow...will let you know how it is. |
Much appreciated. Thanks for the youtube links. Dial up's too slow to watch them now but will let them download when I have more time and watch them in one shot rather than 2-3 second spurts. Guess he's working on a new album now, which is why he's had a substitute host for the past few weeks.

So yeah...I'm not super impressed with Situation. It's solid, but more typical hip-hop than his usual stuff - I've always liked how his work his pretty offbeat from the norm, with lots of different musical flavours.
Its a good album, but coming from someone like Buck 65 it seems a bit too generic. ---------- Back to the main topic: also just picked up Paolo Nutini's Sunny Side Up. |
