I am loving the variety of choices listed in the entries. Good to see everyone thinking hard and putting their best choices in their lists, more importantly in the top 5 of their chosen 20. (which will help me immensely when a particular villain like Dracula might get his own section) And you will never guess who has the most points and is leading the pack of the most vile men/women in horror right now! It's none of the usual popular ones you are thinking of. I need more. Plenty more. Keep thinking and send me those lists! |
Well, I have started work on the compilation since last night by merging all the 14 lists together and bracketing the common ones out.

What about the zombies and the mutants too? I am open to suggestions from all of you regarding this matter. Have your say. |
I only skimmed through this thread and have been compiling my list but specifically ignoring the like of Jaws, Godzilla et al. I assumed they would fall into a monster category rather than villian. I don't really feel like they fit, personally, but I would rather create a list that follows the system everyone else is using and rework it to include all the horror monsters and such that I have so far been ignoring. I don't mind how it works, but if half the people are adding things like Godzilla and half aren't due to different interpretations then all those monsters are gonna end up annexed to the bottom of the list anyway.

I say delete the monsters, but keep the inanimate objects.
Or maybe we need a top 100 evil inanimate objects list? The African Doll from TRILOGY OF TERROR? The Car from THE CAR, or from THE WRAITH or from MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE... Shit man, you could probably make a list with just the most nefarious cars, boats, motorcycles and bicycles |

Nice idea for the next Top 100. :D |
Delete all the non-human villains!:D

Top Evil Food Top Evil Dolls Top Evil Motor Vehicles Top Evil Furniture And Appliances That should be at least 20.:D |
I think Godzilla deserves to be on a list of villains.
|

But was Godzilla really a villain? Wasn't it just and animal being an animal, following its animal insticts? Not really evil intentions. Just like King Kong. Hmmm? |

I agree that deliberate villains are many in number, but instinctive villains are also plenty. Godzilla stakes a pretty strong claim in that department. Especially in the first 2-3 films it was portrayed in. Don't forget, Pinhead is some sort of a hero in the first Hellraiser film. That doesn't reduce his villainy in the Hellraiser series. |
Quote:
And just because Pinhead disposed of a villain in the first Hellraiser movie does not in any way make him a hero. |
I'd see Godzilla to be more of an antagonist than a villain. He's the key problem in the situation and the overall negative force but I don't see him as a villain as such. It's odd, because you can't really say it's because he doesn't see what he's doing as wrong because some of the best villains do what they do with what they see as the best intentions. Even so, I just think there's SOMETHING missing. Can't put my finger on it.

Received. Thanks, Scouse.
These are the most popular horror villains so far (appearing in 5 or more lists) :-
In addition, there are plenty who stand on the borderline of popularity - which means they figure in 3-4 lists. But being popular doesn't necessarily mean they are leading in the Points table. That's an entirely different cup of tea. ;) |

Thanks, there were a couple vying for a place but decided to keep it to what I consider to be his most memorable. It was a tricky process. |
Big thanks to urdevil for chipping in with a nice list as well. And thanks to Jenna for that fantastic compilation sent to me via email.
The list is growing, folks. Already we have over 245 entries and 68 villains in the Points table so far. Keep them coming till the end of July. Then we start the final countdown. |
I vote in favor of Godzilla to make the cut. How's the list coming along?
|
Godzilla is a force of concentrated malice. As is Michael Myers. If Michael Myers is a villain, Godzilla is a villain. But, as a force of concentrated Satanic misanthropy, I'd say King Ghidorah is a better giant monster example.
|
Thanks for your list, Doc.
21 individual lists so far, and a umm...small list from Angra. As you all know, the time ends in the last week of July so those of you who asked for some time to compile your lists, send them soon. I hope to have the compilation up by the first week of August, so if you have a favorite villain in mind to write a blurb about, feel free to book him/her. |
Ok, wait, so Monsters DO count? I'm with Straker - I was purposefully avoiding Godzilla, Jaws, Alien because I consider them "Monsters" rather than "Villains" (interesting point that Doc brought up because I just had the Monster/Villain argument with my boyfriend re Mike Meyers - He says he's a Monster. I'm inclined to agree intellectually, but at the same time I think he's a Villain).
|
Yes they do. Most monsters are villains, although all villains are not necessarily monsters.
|
Thanks!
And we must rank these lists, no? I'm trying to go with "more obscure" to hopefully flesh it out a bit. |
Yes. If you can rank your Top 5 at least, out of your listed 20, it would be of help. If you choose to send in an unranked one, it would do too.
|
And can we give you more than 20?
|
Sure! I would love it. :)

Very interesting point, Doc.
Come on people...show me your lists!!! We are into the last 2 weeks of the schedule! |
I'll have to say, I had a really hard time with this just because of the criteria I set for myself as what a true villain is to me. My list wasn't even 20 long.
|
Fully agree with Doc. Evil intentions & doings that all matter to be a villain, not the natural instincts for survival. Most of the poor creatures were out there in wrong time & wrong place, that's just might made them that bad.
|
Received yours, Flayed. Thanks for the list.
Still waiting for plenty more from all the HDC-ians. Come on people! |
A big Thanks to Massacre Man for taking some time out and sending in his list.
69 villains shortlisted so far. Hoping to zero in on 31 more from the pending lists which some of you have promised but haven't sent in yet. That doesn't mean that those who haven't promised and are reading this cannot send me their lists. Come on people! Let me see those lists! A point to moot - 3 of you listers have sent in Carrie White as a Horror Villain. What is the general consensus on this dubious entry? |
Quote:
I don't see her as a villain, she's the victim of horrific bullying and a brutal mother. They are the villains IMO, not her. |
That's how I see it too. Will be interesting to hear Doc's take on Carrie.
Anyone else? |
Carrie's Mother is the villain in this case. A fantastic villain. Add her.
