Most of his old stuff is pretty good I really liked The damnation game, Cabal ( short stories which thy based both the Lord of illusions and Nightbreed after). Imajica is good but more sci-fi ish and the books of blood( more short stories). Ohhh yeah and the hellbound heart which hellraiser is based off of. Hope that helps ya

nightbreed was based on cabal (a novel)

lord of illusion was based on "the last illusion" a short story from the books of blood

the movie follows the novel faithfully (excluding the hollywood tacky ending of course). cabal was supposedly the first in a trilogy but he never wrote the others....just like he never wrote the third book of the art.

turns out i haven't got this as an e-book....must remedy that.

Are you sure about The last illusion im pretty sure its a short story from Cabal? speaking of Cabal the one I own is not only The story cabal but also The life of Death....How spoiliers bleed....Twilight at the towers and The last illusion. In the books of blood I own I cant seem to find the Last illusion anywhere. Regardless of what their classification is and where they can be found both stories are really cool. Though I must say that After reading Cabal and Watching the movie I longed for a conclusion to the story. What do you think about that? Im pretty sure that Barker Is no longer interested in writing the compelling tales of horror that were a mark of his early work.

I would say that there are some big differences between the movie and the book mainly the death or rather lack of death of one of the characters and the ending is also different. What the books offers that the movie lacks is a view into the mind of Zipperface. and that is frightening and worth the read

Which novel should I read first? Which of his anthologies should I begin with also

books of blood vol 6

the life of death
how spoilers bleed
twilight at the towers
the last illusion
the book of blood (a postscript) on jerusalem street

as for a conclusion to the story, i already said the cabal story was to be a trilogy but he never wrote the other two books.
