I've been listening to the same old stuff... Ramones, Swingin Utters, PJ Harvey, Portishead. I really have to recommend "The Secret Life of the Love Song and The Flesh Made Word" two lectures given by Nick Cave. They should be available through bookstores under isbn 1902670078 or possibly through www.king-mob.co.uk . It's an amazing examination of the true nature of love songs and, separately, the impact of biblical imagery on art. There's also really really beautiful versions of "West Country Girl", "People Ain't No Good", "Sad Waters", "LOve Letters", and "Far From Me".

noctuary 09-14-2005 07:34 PM

I've been listening to Codeine's The White Birch quite a bit lately. It's seriously one of the most miserable records I've ever heard. I'm not at all surprised that they called it quits after this. Unless your name is Michael Gira, it's hard to keep turning out such despairing work.

Muse-Absolution

Elvis_Christ 09-15-2005 08:24 PM

^^ I hate MUSE so much

...... but that's just me :) Opinions are like assholes.....blah, blah, ect.

@ Bobby Jack: Nick Cave fan huh? Don't strike many of them these days. I really like his first few solo albums (From Her To Eternity, The First Born Is Dead and Tender Prey). I was a huge fan of his band before his solo stuff The Birthday Party aswell.

Deposable 09-17-2005 01:27 PM

I love my West Coast punk... besides KD... not a fan.

Got an advance copy of the new Coheed and Cambria CD, its all I listen to...

noctuary 09-23-2005 08:57 PM

Starfish by the Church. The more I listen to this record, the more I realize that it is one of the essential albums of the Eighties. Right up there with Disintegration and The Queen is Dead.

Hate_Breeder 09-24-2005 04:16 PM

His Infernal Majesty-Dark Light
Bloodhound Gang-Hefty Fine
Incubus-Morning View
The Doors-2 Disc Collection
Dead Milkmen-Cream of the Crop
Reel Big Fish-Turn the Radio Off
Brotha Lynch Hung-Season of Da Siccness

ASSUCK - Anticapital hasn't left my CD player all week. Great songs like October Revolution and Civilisation Comes, Civilisation Goes. Political Grindcore at it's finest.

ChEEbA 10-01-2005 02:19 AM

Right now I'm listening to the latest Bloodhound Gang album - Hefty Fine. It's interesting...pretty different from a lot of their stuff.
They've taken it in a more rock than hiphop direction, of course there's still funny lyrics happening here and there, but it seems to have taken a more serious turn musically...seems more effort went into the sound this time.
It's a pretty good album, I'd suggest checking it out.

Also been revisiting a few tracks here and there from the Beavis and Butthead do America, and Lil' Nicky soundtracks, and a few tracks off Necro - the sexorcist, Butthole Surfers - weird revolution
and Grand Buffet.

Actually, the best CD of 2005 would be Opeth's "Ghost Reveries" but I'll let you slide this time.....

Lately I've been listening to American Head Charge's "The Feeding". I don't know why, but some of the songs are fucking catchy as hell.

Marroe 10-03-2005 08:03 PM

Lipstick Traces, A Secret History of Manic Street Preachers. I've liked the band for a while, but I'm just starting to get REALLY into them.

noctuary 10-07-2005 08:55 PM

Tonight at work I was spinning Glassjaw's Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence and the Afghan Whigs' Gentlemen. These are essential records for periods of romantic trouble. Gentlemen in particular is a brilliant record, from one of the most underrated bands of the Nineties.

have you heard his album "From the Inside" yet? GREAT songs on that one... he wrote it while locked in an asylum, I believe.

I haven't got anything new and exciting at the moment so I'm mostly listening to old favorites. Lately that's meant a lot of Skinny Puppy... with the exception of The Process (bleh!) and the underwhelming Greater Wrong Of The Right.

The_Return 10-30-2005 01:02 PM

One of my favourite album's, though Id assume most of you aorund here wouldnt agree:

http://www.jerzbear.com/media/music/images/13583f.jpg

Great vocals by Stephen Page, and the lyrics are great, not to mention varried. You have the light hearted, fun songs like Shopping or Another Postcard, then the very powerful, well-written and well sung War on Drugs, and other serious songs like Next Time....great album.

Jacob Singer 10-30-2005 01:27 PM

Danzig ( first four albums)
Damned-Grave desorder
The Cramps-Look mom no head
Fields of the nephilim-Nephilim

noctuary 10-30-2005 06:55 PM

Autumn always puts me in a somewhat melancholy and reflective mood, so I've been listening to a lot of slowcore/sadcore lately. Particularly Red House Painters (Down Colorful Hill) and Low (Secret Name.)

Jacob Singer 10-30-2005 11:57 PM

In a cold long winter is the best time to listening clasics like Black Sabbath (from the first one to Sabotage) or Alice Cooper (I LOVE THE DEAD)

The_Return 11-06-2005 07:29 AM

My dad just brought me a few he said he thought Id like. Heres what I have on now:

I found Dr Hook a bit boring...Side 1 was OK, Sylvia's Mother is an incredble song, as is Cover of the Rolling Stone, but they really go down from there. Good alum, but too sappy for me.

Certainly do! Just finished with Closer to Home, it was great! My only gripe was that a few songs were really long. Long songs bother me....aside from that though, great album!

Got this one on now...not really my style. Dont mind country, but this really isnt my style. It's OK so far I guess.

Quite enough of that. Put on a classic, one of my favorites:
