it hurts to see my favorite movie getting eliminated so early in the tournament. Hell, my top horror movie's getting eliminated, too.
Maybe I'll devise some sort of wild card thing to get one of them back in the tournament. |

a little over 7 hours left, if you haven't voted yet, do so soon
|
I use Microsoft Excel to organize all my tournaments
|
Well, there'll be half as many next round
|
In stuff like this one needs to take general consensus into account. If I just took 256 movies that I thought were the best, I would've plugged my top 100 in and built off of that. Rocky Horror Picture Show is a well-regarded movie 'round these parts, so I included it. If you don't want to vote, then don't vote.
Also, the best documentary ever is in there, I guess you just missed it. And you misspelled "The Five Obstructions" |

Is it OK if we dont vote on every matchup?
I think it's pretty common knowledge that Im pretty behind on my movie watching....I'd like to vote, but there are tons of matches where Ive seen neither movie:o |
I've actually been meaning to ask people about that.
Yeah, don't vote for what you don't want, since other people have been doing that. But, when you guys don't vote for something, that kinda leaves me in an odd position. Should I just ignore the match you don't vote for or should I decide which movie gets the point? |
I'll have to see The Five Obstructions, I hadn't heard anything about it until now and I'm anxious to see it. One of my favorite docs didn't make it either but oh well. Sang des bêtes, Le (or Blood of the Beasts) was quite a watch, powerful stuff.
The films I didn't vote for fall into two catagories. Movies I haven't seen or movies where I didn't care for either option. I think adding your own points would throw it off and personally think just not adding any points is the way to go there. |
that's what I was thinking. At the start when people were omitting movies and some matches had no votes either way was when I was considering attributing points myself.
|
I like the way this tournament doesn't have a "best foreign movie" section but instead includes them all. Great start STE, can't wait for the finish.
|
BTW, the "Hamlet" in question is the 1996 Kenneth Brannagh version, in case anybody was wondering
|
A few of these votes are based on reputation alone....
Horror: The Shining Mary Shelley's Frankenstein Devil's Rejects The Wicker Man And Then There Were None The Exorcist (How is Rear Window a horror movie? Classic film, but not horror) Devil's Backbone The Birds Alien Halloween Kwaidan Night of the Living Dead Se7en Eyes Without a Face Dawn of the Dead Sci Fi: Robocop (HARD match) The Thing Blade Runner Planet of the Apes A Clockwork Orange ET Star Wars Metropolis 2001: A Space Odyssey The Matrix Dark City (Aother tough one) Empire Strikes Back Action/Adventure: Count of Monte Cristo The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly A Fistfull of Dollars Raiders of the Lost Ark Unforgiven Batman Begins Reservoir Dogs (Hardest one yet) Pulp Fiction Versus Sin City Kill Bill Drama: Goodfellas The Outsiders Schindler's List Once Upon a Time in the West Chinatown Raging Bull The Godfather Eraserhead Oldboy (Hamlet is probably better, but I havent seen the movie version) Last Temptation of Christ Comedy: Office Space Young Frankenstein Clue Back to the Future Evil Dead 2 Blazing Saddles (I take it back - THIS is the hardest yet) Dr. Strangelove A Face in the Crowd (The hell is this doing in comedy?) Better Off Dead Rocky Horror Picture Show Being There Documentary: March of the Penguins The Five Obstructions Bowling for Columbine (Yeah, I dont watch many docs) Animation: Charlotte's Web Ninja Scroll Toy Story Vampire Hunter D Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit The Great Mouse Detective Batman: Mask of the Phantasm Who Framed Roger Rabbit Nightmare Before Christmas Shrek The Lion King Fantasia Romance: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind The Princess Bride The Notebook Vertigo Casablanca |
A Face in the Crowd is satirical, and satire generally falls under comedy. I'd say it's about as much of a (dark) comedy as something like Being John Malkovich
|

Fantastic movie, but aside from some of Rhodes' attitude in general I didnt see much humor at all, dark or otherwise... |

Go down the list and pick one movie from the two presented. I can't even comprehend how someone can find that hard. Quote:
Some people think the Godfather sucks, some people think North is great. No way you're going to agree with everything..did you expect to look at the list and see your top 200 list perfectly in place? Either vote or don't vote, it's just something to have a little fun with, stop complaining. |
I didn't get why Versus was in there but I'm not bitching about it.
