Really digging the new Swans record:

http://cdn3.pitchfork.com/albums/181...e.07924400.jpg

It doesn't disappoint in basically sounding like the soundtrack to the most horrifying apocalypse you can imagine. Great stuff; my favorite record of theirs in a while.

Yeah, they've been doing some great work since they started putting out records again. The Seer is my favorite since then, for sure.

natthezombabeee 09-09-2012 01:03 AM

have to say I downloaded the project x soundtrack onto my phone and I loves itttttt

wizard of gore 09-11-2012 12:37 AM

deep mountains

sounds of nature and slow guitars leading to screaming vocals was interesting at first but then got very boring and all songs sounded similar.

isengard - Vinterskugge

three ep's i think..really like this album, weird pagan folk music and singing mixed with raw screaming vocals and guitars, the kind of un produced black metal sound i like.

I do like it but Bernard Sumner's Ian Curtisish vocals were a bit unnecessary. My fave album of theirs is Lowlife.

Geddy 10-23-2012 05:15 PM

I hear you there, Fear. Comparing his singing on this album with their later stuff seems a bit strange. I'll have to check out Lowlife, as I haven't heard that one yet.

listened to this on my slow drive to work this morning.
I've been championing this album for over 20 years now as probably the best album ever recorded.

Elvis_Christ 12-19-2013 07:33 AM

Great album for sure. Think you turned me onto that one a few years back. Been meaning to delve into Robyn Hitchcock's solo stuff.

------

Been listening to Monster Magnet's last album a lot recently. Great piece of rock... glad these guys are still going.

Yeah there's been a few lineup changes. They seem to just slip under the radar and never get the props they deserve. I think they'll do the Hawkwind thing and be around forever.

Really dig this tune off it:

very restrained - and menacing - I kept waiting for it to tear apart :)

sounds worth investigating

Well worth your time. Managed to pick the double LP up cheap not to long ago it sounds and looks killer.

just listened to a new thrift store purchase - Scissor Sisters - Night Work.

fun album. Newb would hate it - there's a lot of disco and glam in there :)

Now reached the end of my month of Christmas music.

On the 25th November I untick everything on my computer and phone that isn't Christmas music. Not that I get bored - I have 11 hours of the stuff. Yes, I'm afraid I'm THAT guy. Whistling Good King Wencelas before advent has even started. I JUST LOVE CHRISTMAS TOO MUCH!

Elton John - The Captain and the Kid.

I recently found this in a thrift store and my heart leapt - as I'd never heard of this before but by the title I knew it must be a follow-up to Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy - one of my favourite albums of all time.

And indeed that's what it was.

Although it was nowhere as magical and majestic or as interesting as the original, this album starts out pretty good for the first 3 or 4 songs before falling back into the unoriginal musicianship of Elton Johns latest works. I just think he got lazy as he got older.

I think you need to be hungry to create interesting works .. complacency is not the breeding ground for genius.

Oh well, a couple of nice tunes in the beginning .. enough to make it a far better album than anything he's done in decades.

Yes youngsters, in the 70's - Elton John was badass .. but I'm sad to say... The Bitch is not quite Back.

For sure. Those early albums were straight up killer shit. It really sucks how bad his music got.

You can say the same thing about Rod Stewart too. Everything up to the late 70s was solid but then he got bland and commercial.

The late 70s was a real weird time for a lot of musicians....some didn't adjust to the change [ yes...I'm talking DISCO] and faded away..[Grand Funk and that type of heavy 70s rock and some embraced it [ Bee Gees, Rod Stewart...even Rolling Stones to some extent]

urgeok2 12-30-2013 09:22 AM

that's exactly right re. Rod Stewart - I've just recently been getting into his old stuff and it's mint

Same deal with the 90s too. Most hard rock bands either faded or put out some pretty embarrassing stuff trying to fit into the "alternative" craze.

This right here. Ive always thought the majority of bands or artists best work is almost always their first album. After a band gets a touch of success they never are the same again. (granted there are some very few exceptions)
