At the moment I seem to be spacing out. |
To further embarrass myself... I'm not trying to defend "horror rap", everything I've heard is total shite, but... there's a guy named Kool Keith who put out a cd back in the 90's called Dr. Octagonecologyst. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was horror rap, but it was extremely off kilter, sort of sadistic and had esoteric references to serial killers. I'd post a link, but I know no one would bother clicking lol
Listening to the song that made me bug my parents into buying a guitar for me when I was 13. That was 23 years ago and I still can't play like this. |

Love that Zappa song, too. One of the first tunes of his I remember hearing. |

Listening to The Vitamin String Quartet: There's something about classical strings being used in a song. They give a certain gravitas to music. I guess it has to do with the resonance of the notes, but I could give a crap about the technical aspect of it, it sounds sweet! And they do a great version of Bold as Love. When they go into the outro of this song (about 3 minutes in) it kind of sends shivers up my spine. I wouldn't recommend all of their stuff. A lot of it sounds like lame irish sea shantys. And some songs that they attempt to cover, the interpretations just aren't that good. But if you dig cover versions (which I totally do), they're worth checking out. |
I know this song has flowery, uber-hippie lyrics. But it's just very sinister sounding! Even the Butthole Surfers version doesn't sound half as sinister as the original. |
Talked myself into listening to some Buttholes.
Sounds like music that Depeche Mode would put out if they were hardcore ether addicts. |

Ahhh... A beautiful Saturday afternoon! What better way to spend it than listening to a couple of my fave guitar tunes, and arguing with an ex-girlfriend through email. Well... at least listening to music is kind of fun
My favorite version of this song. Which is impressive since there are practically thousands of versions of this tune. |

Good listenin', everyone. |
i know it wont mean shit to alot of people in here but these guys are playing in the beldam breakout which is a massive psychobilly fest in england.playing with the best psycho bands in the world(batmobile, mad sin, frenzy and a hole lot more)its pretty good considering they just moved out of little ol new zealand where there is a population of about 10-15 actual psychobillys, and have made it out of hundreds of other psychobilly acts from austrailia and the us and europe and stuff.alot of the bands at these gigs are the pioners of the genre from the early 80s,so very cool to be able to play at the same fest as them |
Hey wizard of gore, did you ever get into The Vibes? As a psychobilly fan, I bet you'd dig 'em:

Listening to more cover versions ... GREAT interpretation! They give the song a frenetic type of jazz feel, and it works. |

Listening to... The term "sell-out" is really misused. A lot of the times, it's not even warranted. I heard Bob Dylan was called a sell out because he had the audacity to play an electric guitar. While I'm not a big dylan fan, I don't think his playing a telecaster, qualifies him as a sell-out (He's a sell-out for doing TV commercials). Sugar Ray on the otherhand..... they're the epitome of the term sell-out. It disgusts me to even think about what they became. They went from this song to making silly, non threatening pop music in the course of two albums. |

Yeah their first few EPs rule. Not really a fan of their later stuff where they ditched that sound and got long winded and boring.
----------- Been listening to these guys a bit this week. They do WAY to many covers but have some killer stuff that still holds up well. Followed it up with some Tripod Jimmie: |
Probably my favorite group of the 90's:
|
Helmet aren't too bad but I've never really big huge on them their albums always went on a bit to long for me. I've got Betty on LP and must say I've been digging it tho. Got the 12" single of Unsung... I wouldn't mind picking up Meantime on LP I think that's the one I'd enjoy the most these days. Didn't have enough cash to see them live last year which was a shame.
-------------- Had the new Unsane album on today second spin and it's growing on me. Hasn't totally blown me away like Visqueen did but there's some fucking good tunes on it. The Flipper cover is great. |

I saw them live 3 years ago at this little jazz club here in Philly, which shocked the hell out of me, because up until then, I had only seen them in much larger clubs. They didn't play as loud as they used to, the only member I recognized was page Hamilton. and it was sort of depressing. Made me feel old. Listening to.... Strange, yet one of the only decent covers of a bad Brains song I know of. |
