A true villian is someone whom the audience loves to hate and hates to love...

Why do you think even after zillions of horror movies made till now..."The Shining" with Kubrick and Nicholson still holds no.1 spot in many people's top 10 horror movies of all time...

Jack Torrance was a human right...a human driven by his own passions, desires and a will to succeed in the one chance that his failed life had given him...he was no Freddy, Jason, Michael, Pinhead, Creeper...but still he is regarded as the best damn villian of all time...

go figure...

i think humans make the best villians, not monsters.

I agree to a certain extent. I also like monsters that have a flash of humanity. I do think it is time for a new villian/monster. I would like for a movie to introduce the world to a new franchise with a new monster/villian that is original and interesting.

by deffinition a villian is someone who goes agains the hero, this could go for anything. in order to be a true horror villian the audiance must fucking hate your guts, and there should be very little to no humanity in you.

i dont think freddy, jason, leather face, and michael really count as horror villians, they are more like villians in general and horror icons. they all still have humanity, and they care for someone. jason cared for his mother, this is seen in part 2 when he is ticked by the girl in the cabin. michael cared for his family a little, this is expressed in the way he was stoped by jamies plees even if only for a second and when she requested to see his face. leather face cared for his entire family so he never killed any of them. as for freddy he cared for his daughter.

now a true villian of horror is someone who has no consionce, regret, and not a single fragment of human decentcy. in truth the only really true horror villians i can think of are pinhead, zombies, the guy from seven, hannible lectur( he didnt care for agent starling as much as he enjoyed mind fucking and using her), and buffalo bill( he was a sick twisted mo fucking bastard, the only thing he cared about was his skin coat and his little gay ass fucking dog( if that thing can even be called a dog))

Remember people have to enjoy the films, so if the villians were made so hate-able no-one would want a poster of the villain on their walls, I'd say a villain has to lots of likable things about them.

the best human villian is certainly someone with some depth, not these 2 dimentional assholes who are 100% unlikeable - no charisma, no personality. That is the most boring idiotic villian possible.

Give me a guy who is funny, intelligent, but maniacle ...someone you'd normally like if they weren't consumed by evil ... now thats an effective villian.

for supernatural killers i like a cool looking monster ..slimy gross violent 'unstoppable' creature. Not a giant animal monster .. but something genuinely not of this earth .. so you get some good creature FX and some excellent gore ..

(The Relic, The Thing, etc)

I like villains that aren't 100% evil, either. For example, everyone is born innocent but in the villain's case something along the line f*cked them up which turned him/her into a maniac.

I even like the killers you can feel sympathy for - Jason, Norman Bates, Samara, May, Willard, etc.
