They've all seemed less typical or predictable I guess than many of the American and Asian horror films I've seen. I'm curious to check out the other five films on that list.

agreed.................

i do know someone who works there so i have a personal connection to the place, i admit, but i wouldn't push them if i didn't think it was a great article.

thanks for having me here

SPAM or not, thanks for the rec. I mean, it's sites or mags like these that introduce me into these films (it was Fangoria that sold me on Inside).

I've seen four of the movies listed. And of them, 2 I find to be absolutely amazing (Frontiers and High Tension were a HUGE disappointment... Frontiers was silly; Hostel meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets... Nazis... LOL... And High Tensions had some brilliantly brutal parts... but the predictable "twist" was just lame and, ultimately, didn't make sense).

Ils and Inside are utterly brilliant, however, especially the latter.

I'll add the other 4 to my Netflix queue. Always looking for more foreign horror.

New French Extremity

Talk about movies associated with the new French extremity movement like High Tension, Martyrs, À l'intérieur, or Irréversible.

well someone reply at least. New french cinema is occasionally stylish gore with a more cohesive and sometimes beter contructed plot line. Some peopple find it too much, not me. However i must be one of the few people who didn't really enjoy the end of haute tension, then again at the time i had seen a lot of the 'it's reallly him/his schizo alter ego' type endings. The one where they are held hostage by neo-nazis, can't remeber its name, let me down on lack of gore/cruelty

I love the new wave of Froggy horror. And do not dismiss:

Ils aka Them
High Lane
The Pack
Frontiers

I want to check out Ils because I hear you guys on here bring it up quite a bit. I appreciate all of the movie recommendations on here ::smile::

I have to disagree with you on Frontiers and High Tension. I think if one is in a 'gore' mood, they are the perfect choices! I can make a lot of predictions with movie endings but I didn't with High Tension; I thought the ending was entertaining to say the least.

I just recently watched The Pack and it was okay, not a favorite. I did enjoy High Lane though!

Frenchies

As I've mentioned, i've been away from the horror genre for some time.
Watched Matyrs last night. I know it's relatively old now (2008).
Quite fond of French movies, they did invent cinema after all. Any other recommendations?
