I have lost touch with comics in the last few years but you have me interested. Would you mind PM'ing me with details of Johnny Storms death? I would appreciate it! |
Done and done.

Latest issue of the Walking Dead.
Not one to be missed...Kirkman has again showed us that he's willing to "break the rules" to keep things interesting, but I hope they fix this, I really do... Still, I never look forward to a comic as much as I do this one. |
Read some current Batman titles last night:
Batman 708 Batman The Dark Knight 2 Batman Inc. 4 Superman/Batman 82 Whether Bruce Wayne or Dick Grayson Batman is still one of the most enjoyable and reliable characters in comicdom. While everything above is stunning David Finch appears to be verging on the brilliant. __________________ |
Nemi a Norwegian humor series about a goth girl in Oslo, it is filled with nice social cometary and hilarious though tasteful jabs at about anything in society.

I'm re-reading all of The Tick comics....when I can manage to find some time. I've always really liked The Tick.

Hey, i'm new.
I just read the second issue of Hellraiser, I've been reading a bunch of non horror comics, and some horror mini comics, like this werewolf anthology series, http://werewolfanthology.wordpress.com/ I very much recomend that, in all honesty I have a story in the new one (that's where my user icon is coming from) so sorry for the self-promotion, but I'd love this series even if I wasn't in it. |
So I read a lot of comics...though I only actually buy a few, usually after I've "previewed" them.
So I figure as long as I'm doing that I should give props to the best reads I've had that week, and see if I can't get a few people to think about picking them up. So here's a few: Action Comics #901 Now this wasn't REALLY among my favourites, but it's pretty action packed and fans of the old "Doomsday/Death and Rebirth of Superman" storyline will probably get a kick out of it, for the first time in quite a while Superman and his "replacements" are together in the one place for an ongoing story arc. I don't usually follow superman stuff all that much, but this one has me interested to watch for more. Gotham City Sirens #23 So this series follows Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, living together. This might turn a lot of people off, and for the better part the series hasn't been that "great"...though the last two issues have really picked up. If you want to see some good Joker/Black Mask stuff, a prison riot at Arkham, people getting their limbs severed, then have a look at this one. Though you might want to check out issue #21 as well (skip 22, it's unrelated) to see how the story begins. Wolverine (current series) #9. If you haven't read this series from issue #1 the events of the storyline may be a little confusing. I'm recommending this mainly because there's great fight scenes, and the introduction of something of a super-assassin type character that's pretty cool. Wolverine, Mistique, and super-assassin guy have a 3-way battle...it was just very cool... Uncanny X-Men #537 Here's another one that might be a little bit confusing for the first time/long absent reader - Though, there is a nice "recap" at the beginning that pretty much gets you up to speed on what's been happening. The "known" characters this one focusses around are Colossus and ShadowCat/Kitty Pride. Like the issue of Wolverine I mentioned above, it's essentially a "fight" comic. Pretty dastardly and resourceful villain too, and one of those "what the fuck?" endings. Best issue of this title I've read in some time. Captain America - Hail Hydra (All 5 issues) I don't know if all of the issues are still available, if they are, grab 'em. If not, surely there'll be a collected edition soon enough. Just a really solid storyline that spans the entire Captain America timeline, and quite cohesively too. I don't usually get into limited series, but this one hooked me and kept me reading to the end. I don't want to spoil what's involved, but yeah, seriously a very solid read. One more I thought I would throw out there to read as a collected edition, is "Irredeemable". It's a little late coming but I feel like I owe it some credit - Great stuff about a massively powerful superhero who turns on the world, and his team. It has now run for 24 issues, and has also spawned a "sister title" that has ran alongside it for 18 issues - though impressively, they have yet to bleed into each other. This comic introduced a reality of it's own so you don't need familiarity with any other comics to pick this one up whatsoever. It's violent and bloody, but not one of those comics that throws gore all over the place "just because". Now saying this might cause a touch of a stir, and is probably just a tiny bit of a stretch, but I don't think another comic has come as close to the vibe of "Watchmen" as this one has, in terms of storyline, character histories and overall tone. It has kept me looking forward to another issue since day #1...and I think that it is one of the best comics available today. This one I've actually purchased. I would purchase as a gift too - even for people not "into" comics. I cannot endorse it enough. That's it for me this week. |
I've been wondering about the Gotham Sirens title. I really liked Ed Brubaker's catwoman, especially when Darwyn Cooke was drawing it! There's three collections of those I think.
I also just read the first trade of IZombie and really like that. |
