He works 3rd shift, 11pm to 7am...That happens to be the busiest shift for airport security, in fact it's the only shift that the cafeteria is open, because it's the busiest...He has 3 positions that they switch him around on... 1) Mobile: That's driving around the airport making sure everything's cool, and responding to things when needed 2) Guard Shack: He has to stay in a booth-like thing and come out to search semi's and other vehicles as they drive through his checkpoint 3) I'm not sure what you would call this one, it's the one where he checks IDs, runs people through the metal detector, runs a wand over them if they beep, tells them to empty their pockets and runs their items through the x-ray machine...For the people who don't actually go through the regular process, he has to stand out on the tarmac and scan them as they are boarding the plane During training they had to watch videos of what happens when a bomb goes off...It was pretty gruesome, especially the part where they were removing bodies from a diner that had been bombed by a terrorists...I really think this is to drive home the point that their jobs have to be taken very seriously They make the tests tricky on purpose so that they can discuss what you missed, how you missed it, and what you have to look for...Different items show up as different colors on the x-ray scanners...Plastic, metal, wood, etcetera, they are different colors...For the x-ray test, you have to keep doing different ones until you don't miss any items...On Dustin's first test, he missed a bomb!...It was in a very dark area, and you could barely see anything at all...BUT, he found a meat cleaver and a speedloader...They showed him how easy it is to miss something, and how hard you really have to look at the dark areas...On his second test, he found every item...Some people have to do it 4 or 5 times, like I said, they make it tricky on purpose...They also told him that you can tell how good a bottle of wine is by its color...The darker the wine shows up on the screen, the better the wine, that was just an interesting aside. It's a pretty exciting job and he loves it already :) As for Seri, no worries because she's 21 now...AND...I would have been surprised if you HADN'T commented ;) And Ash...Yes, he HAS gotten so big...He's 4 now and he's even tall for his age |
