Turistas
I had been waiting to see this for a long time. Maybe the wait built up expectations far to high. I thought it was rather shite, too many holes, terrible score and really no edge to it what so ever. Just cheap gore. And where where all the tits and sex, from what I had heard you guys saying it was overdone with it... there was hardly any in the unrated version??? 5/10 |

Also, Wrong Turn, for what I thought was the first time, but then realized it wasn't when I saw the inbred hillbillies (i just never knew the name of the movie). The ending was lame as hell, but I liked it. |
28 Weeks Later, and Planet Terror.

Glad I found a like mind. ... Tonight I saw the first two installments of the Final Destination movies for the first time. Final Destination http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...onogrl/55m.jpg Fantastic concept and some of the greatest death scenes that I have seen in a movie (as a matter of fact, the Death Scene thread inspired me rent it)... The idea of DEATH having a plan (versus Fate or Life) was more gothic and chilling that the whimsical sort of movies that pontificate on the Butterfly Effect. Definitely a fun teenage slaughter fest. I give it a solid B. Final Destination 2 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ogrl/55m-1.jpg meh. I didn't mind the perpetuation of the concept. I actually thought that this film tied into the first one pretty well (usually when sequels tie into originals, there are contrived and corny bits, but Final Destination 2 handled it pretty well). The death scenes were not particularly memorable, though the initial "Vision" was pretty horrific (I actually enjoyed it better than the initial "Vision" of the first movie), but that was it. I was actually bored throughout most of it. C-/C ... As if those weren't enough, my boyfriend and I rounded the evening off with... 1408 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ogrl/55m-2.jpg Uhm. The first part of the movie was pretty impressive - the lead-up (Samuel L Jackson), the building of John Cusak's character, the introduction of the room. VERY impressive. Visually stunning. Definitely creepy. Used the restriction of the single setting and single actor very effectively. HOWEVER The middle to latter half of the movie definitely embodied all that I do NOT like about Stephen King (and I do LIKE him - I just recognize his flaws as a writer)... The tragic flawed hero being tortured and seeking redemption... The concept of evil beyond... All... I thought that it dragged on absolutely unnecessarily. I was VERY disappointed. But I liked it better than Final Destination 2. C perhaps. |
Live Free or Die Hard (2007)

Enchanted (theatre).....I give it a 7.5 or an 8 if I'm feeling really friendly. Fun movie, decent, charming.
Time After Time (video) classic fave. |

August Rush- 5 stars

on video i just watched Paris Je T'aime - cool if you love Paris but generally uneven and not many segments that were inspiring (for those who might not know the film is broken into segment - one for each district (or quartieme) of Paris and each directed by a different director. The Cohen Brothers had a nice one as did Wes Craven, but most were fairly uninteresting.
Like I said, if you love Paris and have spent time there you will appreciate it - if not then its an interesting 'film school' exercise in style and short filmmaking |
Shoot Em' Up- 6.5/10
One of the best mindless shooting movies i've seen in a while, worth a watch. Clive Owen does a good job as usual. |

Exactly. I found the characters more likeable and was therefore more drawn into the movie, making it more suspenseful for me and caught myself wincing at certain torture scenes which I found 10 times more gruesome than Hostel (if that's all people are looking for in a film)... just overall the better movie imo, and this coming from a guy who made such movies like Blue Crush and Into the Blue. Anyhoo... Stardust and Dead Silence (kinda). |
Watched The Reaping and Delta Farce a couple of nights ago.......
The Reaping was VERY GOOD well worth watching wouldn't mind watching it again......:o Delta Farce on the other hand was a big disappointment. It wasn't as funny as I thought it would be. Larry the Cable Guy and Bill Engvall together in a movie should have had me rolling on the floor but I was far from it...... |

... Today... Me and my boyfriend's family went to see BEOWULF 3D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ogrl/55m-3.jpg My initial responses to Beowulf's previews: 1. That looks AWESOME! ... 2. Wait, that looks like crappy CGI. ... 3. Well, maybe it'll look better in 3D... Yeah, not so much. Honestly, the beasties were spectacular (Grendel, the Sea Monsters, and the last battle, a Dragon). They looked incredible and the action scenes were definitely enjoyable. HOWEVER For most of it, I just felt as though I were watching a video game. The story and the writing were terrible, and they should have just stuck with action... The humans looked awful (because of the method of transposing CGI, they looked as though they were stepping out of some king of RPG to the big screen... Dull faces, unrealistic hair and all of the issues that comes from creating CGI people). The only human character who stuck out was John Malkovich, who was honestly enjoyable... But he didn't have enough screen time. The themes of the story were pedantic parables about pride, bravado, and hubris... Nothing new with no attempt to make them novel. I had heard a few reviews that had claimed that the movie was tongue and cheek, but the movie took itself far too seriously to be self conscious in anyway, shape or form. Some parts were pretty to look at, but overall it was yawnable... C+/B- (The special effects were really INCREDIBLE... There were just too little beasties. Alas). |
Apocalypto.
First time viewing. Exciting in parts, sad in some, downright fucked up in others. Overall pretty decent, not really my kind've movie though. |

Spoiler Alert
The Host- Hated It
The ENTIRE movie is them trying to find that little girl and then she's DEAD?? WTF?. The monster was good, the monster should stay... the rest of the movie should be erased. |

Vacancy ~ liked it better than I expected to, but more could have been done with it.
1408 ~ I love this movie, some very effective scenes, and I think Cusack really pulled it off very well. I was afraid I would be expecting too much, but I wasn't disappointed in the least. |

Loved Stardust. Great modern fairytale (incredibly modern... they didn't include sex back in my heyday). Loved Ricky Gervais. It kept me awake and laughing even after 2 days of not sleeping altogether (thought the same of DeNiro and was kinda sad his role wasn't longer, but the movie is so rich in good characters, that he wasn't missed for long).... After this however, I saw Dead Silence... and woke up just in time for the final twist. :p Didn't do much for me, the parts that I did see. Gonna have to watch it again just to be sure. |

I thought the movie was fantastic. Honestly, the ending was a bit grim and inconsistent with the rest of the film, but at the same time it certainly reminded you that this was a monster/horror movie. I imagine that the intent was more to draw you back to the reality of the situation (where the comedic interludes might have distracted you)... I found the end very grimly droll... Wasn't sure whether or not I really found it a perfect film, but wasn't that annoyed with it. |
Wicked Little Things- 6.5/10
Atmosphere was stunning, acting was acceptable, scare factor...... weak. It was one of the better 8 films IMO |
Black Sheep.
If you like cheesy movies I suggest this one. It's really funny and has... weresheep. Or are they zombie sheep? |

I like cheese, but this didn't grill well with me... I thought it blew.... I hoped for so much more. |

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly- ...... 5/10
Sorry.... I just don't like westerns. I want to like it, and I damn well respect this film for what it is, but i don't like it. ALKY- Don't kill me. First it was the Departed and now this.... Lol. |

No Country For Old Men Not my favorite Cohen Brothers film, but I'd put it in their top 5, which makes it better than most other films out there regardless of genre. I loved the ending and how they play with audience expectations throughout the film. Nothing is over-explained, nothing is even remotely over-stated. Subtle, beautiful film making that left my head spinning, but was somewhat emotionally unfulfilling. Posher would hate it. 8.5/10 I'll probably like this one even better upon repeated viewings. |

damn good film, intense as hell. great performances and all around beautiful film making. i'd give it a 8/10 ***SPOILER*** Didnt give the audience what it wanted.....on purpose though. good guy dies, bad guy lives and kills good guy's wife. harsh. i was a bit disapointed, because i really liked Josh Brolin's character. |
Blood and Chocolate- come se come sa
Was worth watching. I did love the transition scenes from human to wolf...real Pretty and Shiney:) |
