The House on the Edge of the Park is miles ahead of Cannibal Holocaust.

David Hess was one of the genre's best method actors. No one has or ever will do menacing sleaze better.

I know what you mean about lack of basic logic credibility (with films in general, I didn't see Edge of Park). Unless the characters are popping LSD or they're shown falling asleep and begin dreaming, it really bugs me when things don't make logical sense, especially within the film's own reality. It just seems sloopy to me. When I see it, simple and quick ideas pop in my head about how they could have had it make sense, but don't bother. It increases the perception I'm getting handed a formulaic, cheap "crack" titilation, quick-cash rip-off film. To me, if the makers don't care enough about the story making sense, I'm really not interested.

Nothing in that list that I necessarily absolutely "love", but over half of them I still watch and enjoy. Some of them aren't meant to be "good" or "enjoyed".

I remember seeing a special showing of Salo almost 20 years ago. Several people literally threw up and left. It's not exactly a "great" film you watch to "enjoy" but it was a definite statement from Pasolini on several frontiers. Same thing with Baise Moi. While Baise Moi was no where near as artistic as Salo or with such deep rooted ideas of ideology, morality or corruption, it was never meant to be a "good movie". Sharknado and Troll were never meant to be great cinema either, but I still find them enjoyable. I'm also starting to think I must be the only person who actually enjoyed the Friday The 13th remake...lol.

Anyway, worst film I saw this year.

Lords Of Salem by a landslide.

Yeah, I don't really hate any of these films either, except maybe The Final and Guinea Pig 3 (zzzzz). I don't watch many films that I end up disliking because I do some research before each film, and save myself the time of sitting through garbage. It wouldn't surprise me if most of these films are enjoyed by a good number of people, it's just the bottom of my barrel for the year (and easy to query because I keep a list with my personal ratings). Most of these are rated somewhere around 5/10 for me.

My problem with Salo was all that artsy fartsy poetry reading. I had such a hard time staying awake. If not for those long, boring stretches I would have liked it much better, and I'm actually a big fan of arthouse cinema. Base Moi just annoyed me. I guess I don't need to see unsimulated sex in a film. Friday the 13th started out promising... in fact I first watched only the first half in the theater (waiting for another film to start) and I actually really liked it. But when I finally watched the whole thing I thought it was pretty cliché.

A lot of this, of course, comes down to personal taste. I loved Lords of Salem. :)

Oh ya, and worst 2013 movie I saw in 2013 was Sharknado, although, I must admit, my buddy and I couldn't stand watching more than some 30 mins. I loved the concept, but not the execution, which wasn't a budget issue.

when i saw the ads i thought - holy crap - The Asylum finally figured it out.

The movie on the other hand - was just like all the rest - inexcusably inept CGI, and their most pathetic hallmark - abusing a once great - but now obviously starving actor - in a way that would embarrass Ed Wood Jr

I have to say my worst of the year was 'The World's End'. I went in with high hopes and thought it was a really lazy film. I wrote a review in my blog, which you can read here.

I don't get how a bunch of middle-class Englishmen can all of a sudden be experts in kung-fu, despite not being in physical shape. I know that the response to this will be: 'it's just a movie'. BUT, I'm not buying it this time. And here is why:

If you are going to be a comedy film in which the rules of logic don't apply, that is fine, but don't try and shoe-horn in an emotional message, because it just doesn't work. It felt phony and I spent the whole time waiting for the movie to end.

Was thoroughly disappointed by this one.

I actually kind of liked The Purge, but I guess I would go with that as the worst 2013 film I saw in 2013, at least that I can think of. I actually loved Lords of Salem, Evil Dead (2013), and Iron Man 3.

I didn't like it either - aside from the very end.

I just thought it was yet another 'Simon Pegg the slacker' movie.
