Beowulf.
Interesting animation, of course...but the movie IMO wasn't all that great.
Nice music and action scenes - the rest just felt a bit empty.

Also - Has anyone seen "Lars & the real girl"?
Looks good, just wondering about it...

IggysPinkTights 03-31-2008 12:47 AM

I loved Lars and the Real Girl.
Thought it was quirky

Killer flick probaly the best thing Larry Clark has ever done. James Woods is a great actor... good to see him in a decent film.

watched that one not long ago.

the only problem with a Larry Clark film is that you feel like a pedo-voyeur at times - the way he runs the camera on the bodies.
i never get the vibe that it's artistic - or done to purposefully make you feel uncomfortable - i get the feeling that he's just indulging himself.

otherwise - i did enjoy woods in this one as well.

Last seen :

finished the Triangle mini-series.

again - uneven but interesting.
not the most satisfying conclusion - but it was ok for a time waster

in this case - it was a refreshing change - at least there was some closure.

a lot easier to take than the mist.

Phalanx 03-31-2008 01:12 PM

30D.O.N stuck pretty closely to the original storyline, with a few differences cast within the vampire community/structure.
The ending was much the same, one of the definitive scenes in the original comic.

There's also a "prequel" movie available on dvd called "30d.o.n: blood trails" if anyone's interested, doesn't look half bad.

I'd like to see them make a movie based off of the 30 Days of Night: Rumors of the Undead novel. Still haven't seen the 30 DoN movie but I'll be adding that and the prequel to my Netflix queue. High up on the list, not down there in the 300s. :)

The Mist - 7/10
The best Stephen King adaptation film since The Green Mile IMO.

The Mist

I feel like a bad fan for not catching this one in the theater, but I just bought it (autographed by Thomas Jane) and wathced it in b/w before seeing the original theatrical version. I loved it. The b/w presentation was stunning. The story is great and the ending was wonderful. A real horror flick that horrifies. The kids loved it, the wife loved it. A great old-tyme creature-feature! Good job, Darabont!

9/10

Up The Sandbox.

early 70's Barbra Streisand film dealing with motherhood Vs woman's lib.

not bad - funny in parts - the message was very heavy handed ..

but man o man, a perfect film to remind one just how beautiful she was back then. absolutely stunning.

Elvis_Christ 04-01-2008 04:54 AM

Yeh? Her and stunning are two words that don't come together in my mind.

Lantana

I have been told to check this movie out for years, I finally caught it on late last night.

It droned a bit, like a lot of Aussie dramas tend to these days. But great performances all round.

6.5/10

Mean Creek

Considering how young the cast is, I was REALLY impressed with this one. Really good script and some great performances. The story doesn't really have any surprises, but it's well told nonetheless. Recommended...but it's definately not for everyone.

Watched Elephant recently, as well...great movie. Slow paced, but I loved the way the story was told. Plus the last scene is just fucking twisted.

The Mothman 04-01-2008 03:12 PM

Navy SEALS
kinda fun.

The Mothman 04-01-2008 08:50 PM

it was pretty good, actually.

I thought Elephant was great.

The Woods - Not a terrible plot but it definitely wasn't well-executed.

The Mist - A lot funner than I thought it'd be. Never read the book, although I definitely will now.
