If you get the chance to see it you should-it was ridiculous to cut it-the gore isn't even gratuitous or OTT.

I watched The Wasp Woman last night. It was released in 59 I think. Not very good but it beats the original The Fly. Love the remake of The Fly by the way. I'm a Brundlefly fan.

August 16th, 1956 the world lost horror great Bela Lugosi.
To honor this star today's movie is (what else)

"Dracula" (1931)

Universal's classic about the vampire king going to England for a bite (sorry). One of the best.

Fearonsarms 08-17-2012 10:52 AM

The Shuttered Room (1967) thank you Dara and by proxy Ferox for recommending this.

Oliver Reed was as always outstanding in this little slow burning film that did build up to some very nice memorable and tense scenes. I did also love the old aunt in the lighthouse. Not really a movie to get people into Lovecraft but I did enjoy it nonetheless.

Saw Bela Luguosi's "White Zombie" (1932) this afternoon. Not up there with "Dracula" but still good horror. Nice spooky atmosphere throughout and a nice take on the zombie genre (Bela essentially controls a legion of Haitian zombies with his mind). Only 3.5 out of 5 stars due to not-so-great acting by the rest of the cast. In the public domain, too!

I think David Manners is outstanding as a haunted/tortured soul. This is still, IMO, the best zombie movie.

Rasputin The Mad Monk:Hammer film starring Christopher Lee as the titular character and what a performance he gives!! He completely nailed it and in this film more than any I felt he showed exceptional character depth-he really is very consistent in how he portrays the behaviour of the character e.g the way he uses silence like it's a weapon itself. May not appeal to everyone as it's more about plotting, scheming and lust for power rather than showcasing much killing at least until towards the end. Also I'll admit I expected it to be more campy and unintentionally funny than it actually was but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Essential for any Hammer Fans (no pun intended). :)

Fantastic, although a tad long. My love for courtroom films keeps on increasing.

Underrated Hammer classic. Anton Diffring is absolutely superb in his portrayal of the horrific doctor.

Read your review on FB. It's a Hammer film I've never seen. I'll have to catch it some day.

You need to mention his dancing too.

I am surprised! Seriously though, definitely give it a watch.

Decent movie, ***.

Bela takes a turn as an evil doctor who engineers a giant killing (paper mache?) bat. More of a mystery than a horror per se. I could think of worse ways to kill an hour.

Try another source. IMDB doesn't allow hot-linking of its images.

Not scary by any contemporary standard but lots of fun. Especially the theme song.

"Plan 9 From Outer Space" (1959)
-Vampira, Tor Johnson, Bela Lugosi (kinda)

Plot: IMDB
Aliens resurrect dead humans as zombies and vampires to stop human kind from creating the Solaranite (a sort of sun-driven bomb).

Phantom's Review: It's been years since I last saw this "classic" and it hasn't improved any. Still hysterically bad and Totally amateur. The best of the worst.

The Premature Burial, another one of Roger Corman's forays into Poe, this time without Vincent Price. Ray Milland is the lead actor in this one, maybe Price would have been better but Milland did a fine job.
