The Cottage (Unrated) - 6/10
Not too bad. Funny with some decent gore. Slasher fans should dig it.

Juvenile Sims 08-13-2008 10:55 AM

The Ruins and Shudder. Both pretty weak.

The Classics I've watched this week:

1. Halloween (original)
2. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
3. Zombie Holocaust (classic comedy)
4. Last House on The Left

The New ones I've watched this week:

1. Dawn of The Dead (remake)
2. The Hills Have Eyes (remake), I thought this was one of the very few good remakes
3. Undead, it's a great Aussie zombie flick

I've also started watching clips from The Nightmare on Elm Street T.V. series,

Rudy .. my first time seeing it - great movie ... handled any less deftly and it would have smelled like bullshit ... instead this was very uplifting.

Oh I love it, I've seen it a couple of times, a very atmospheric, intriguing film. I would love to find the book somewhere sometime.

my sister-in-law bought it and she said it's incredible.
pretty different from the movie, but both are perfect as they are.

Tropic Thunder (2008)

Nowhere near laugh-out-loud funny, but it was smarter and more tongue-and-cheek than, say, Pineapple Express, and it was led by a breathtakingly talented cast.

Glengarry Glen Ross.

Amazing and flawless movie. Aided by some really innovative direction and a terrific cast, headed by the brilliant Al Pacino and the dazzlingly versatile Jack Lemmon. Plus a script with some really hard-hitting dialogues which is among the most memorable in the history of cinema, IMO.

Highly recommended to all fans of stylish, chic and powerful cinema.

Mallrats

Its pretty good, but nothing compared to Clerks. Still, Jason Lee was great, as were Jay and Silent Bob, and I had some good laughs.

Chasing Amy is up for tonight...going through the Askewniverse for the first time.

chasing amy is a gem... one of his finest films.

"Undisputed 2" 7/10

There was WAY too few fights in this movie.

Scott Adkins looks extreemly talented and has very much the same hard hitting style and acrobatic jump kicks as Tony Jaa.

Looking forward to see much more of his skills in Undisputed 3.

Oh, and Michael Jai White was in it as well. Blah..

Angra 08-15-2008 02:44 PM

"Horton hears a who" 7-8/10

Really hilarious in some parts and long drawn and ,typical cartoonish, hysterical (which i can't stand) in others.

But all in all a delightful watch.

Tell me, why are monkeys always hilarious in cartoons?

The Adventures of Milo and Otis

Leland_malinski 08-15-2008 04:50 PM

Séance, this was from the writer of Vacancy, which I enjoyed, so I decided to give it a shot... but... once again.. I am let down.. cliche's left and right.. A lot of rip offs.. they steal scenes from the ring and the grudge and of course it looks ridiculous.. On a positive note, Adrian Paul, plays a pretty creepy killer... I think the Idea of a Séance is scary, but this one was not...

Star Wars - Clone Wars

Enjoyed this far more than i thought i would.
Gorgeous animation ....
some forced and stilted dialogue between 2 of the main characters - but still - worth it just for the visuals.

and as usual i was surrounded by talking assholes.

why the fuck do these ignorant assholes pay money just to talk through a film - ruining it for others ?

Despare 08-15-2008 07:10 PM

Smart People

I really liked the performances in this one, I enjoyed the actors, and some of the lines were sharp as a tack.

I just didn't like the movie that much...

The Running Man & Total Recall back-to-back.

Nothing like revisiting two of my favorite childhood flicks, and still big guilty pleasures. Arnie is his usual self, but more "human" in these two...and both flicks have plenty of moments when his "accent" is pronounced while delivering dialogues.

Sharon Stone never looked more yummier in the latter, while Maria Conchita Alonso was totally out of place in the former. Both interesting premises, with good decent executions. The testosterone levels in the former were at boiling point, while the CGI and makeup effects in the latter were amply evident.

The mutants looked cool, though, despite all that.

Wow...just wow. I had high expectations for this one, but it blew them out of the water.

I can't even describe how well written and acted this movie is...if you haven't seen it, do so immediately.

mirrors (2008)

it starts off well enough, with some good introductory gore and an intensity that instantly pulls you in. it looks rich and dark. in the first couple minutes, i am pleased.
however, for the most part, it's all downhill from there.
the problem is that mirrors has such an absurd plot that it's nearly impossible not to roll your eyes every few minutes. the dialogue is awful, the acting is mediocre at best, and while it's punctuated with some wonderfully chilling scenes and great gore, it's also littered with awkward melodrama.
by the end, you're waist deep in a mess of plot holes, cliches, and kiefer sutherland.
i mean, it's not all bad. there are some great sequences here and there, and it's very technically well-done.
rent it, though. it's not really worth an overpriced movie ticket.

overall, disappointing fare.

5/10

Well, I'm pulling my assumptions from a 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and a group of about six friends who yawned through the whole thing.

Good God... Are you easily impressed? Or just overly sympathetic to the unfinanced filmmaker cause? I thought that movie was terrible and I find it offensive that After Dark would show that abomination while there are scores of independent filmmakers struggling for audience and distribution.
