Does anyone recommend the Poltergeist sequels?

I didn't mind the first sequel..it was alright. Kind of lost its way a few times. Pass on P.3.

Sculpt 06-06-2015 02:31 PM

Sure, if you like the original's basic theme/story. Both sequels are creepy, and decent for Horror films (still P3 was poor for a general film).

They both are not anywhere close as good as the 82 original though (which is a masterpiece). They are more nightmarish, crude (not nasty, rather as in simple), lacking a subtle touch in family relationships and cinematic directing flare.

Both sequels are written and directed by different writers/directors than the original, so you can't expect the same thing.

What do you mean "nightmarish"? I'll give it a watch eventually but jw if anyone really liked them.

They are both less realistic. Poltergeist 82 did a superior job at presenting a very realistic feel of the paranormal experience, along with everything happening making sense and having a reason. The sequels are more storybook, and present things that aren't always related to the plot or 'the paranormal reality', so to speak.

And personally, I didn't like either sequel, naturally compared to the original. The 2nd one had many entertaining aspects, & was definitely it's own story. The 3rd, I recall, as many do, as having annoying aspects. As I recall, spends a lot of time in a nightmarish realm. Fan's of Hellraiser & Elm St sequels might appreciate the style.

horcrux2007 06-07-2015 06:34 PM

34 movies on my wish list... dammit I just can't seem to empty that list out fast enough.

I think I finally figured out The Others. It's not about ghosts or anything. It's about some crazy bitch mom and her kids in a creepy ass house. A third viewing allowed me to really get that. I think the problem was that I wanted it to be like The Innocents, which was actually about possessed kids and a ghost.

I've never seen anyone so determined to convince THEMSELVES to like a movie like you have, Horcrux. ::big grin::

Kudos to you though, really. When I decide I don't like something, it's usually set in stone.

This is literally the only movie that I've done that for. It just seems like the absolute perfect movie for me, and I think I just missed it! It's usually the same for me though. If I don't like a movie, then I don't like it.

Roiffalo 06-07-2015 06:48 PM

Why do you say it would be absolutely perfect for you?

I love those moody, atmospheric supernatural movies like Mama, The Woman in Black, or The Conjuring, and I was expecting that the movie would be all about the ghosts.

Roiffalo 06-07-2015 11:59 PM

Of those I've only seen The Conjuring, so I kinda know what you mean. I'm more old school horror, but I liked that movie enough.

As far as new horror goes, I'm attempting the Insidious films. Interesting series. Like a drawn out Poltergeist mixed with Exorcist.

Roiffalo 06-10-2015 04:22 PM

^ I made a make-shift snakehook once to get a rat snake out of our porch. ...I wasn't very skilled with it, but the stick worked fine. Just takes some wire and a long stick.

I'm still legitimately confused if Donald Trump is actually running for president or if it's just a joke.

Unfortunately, he's serious. Although, he will give comedians a TON of material!

That's a terrifying thought. I guess the national bird will be a bald eagle with a toupee if he's president.
