I thought it was ok, but not the best film i've seen. I was suprised to see Ryan Kwanteen in it. He used to be on a soap over here called Home and Away. It seems he is going the way of Melissa George, who was also on Home and Away at some point.

Your feelings on Dead Silence
New here, i used to the search and saw that the last thread with dead silence was over a year ago, so i figured it'd be ok to start a new one.
How does everyone feel towards dead silence? It seems to me from the reviews and comments ive seen online is that people either love it or hate it. Im with the former. Im a huge fan of anything related to horror. Mainly italian and classic slasher flicks, but i don't care at all for the torture porn and j-horror films that flood theaters these days. Dead Silence though is the only movie (besides IT) to truly scare the crap outta me. Sure i was scared alot as a child but im 24 now and i rarely get that feeling anymore. That's why dead silence holds a special place in my dvd collection cause everytime i watch it and i see the cellar scene i get goosebumps and a feeling of panic, It's awesome, ha. I feel like the film gets a bad rep because it's so different from SAW and people always label it as a movie with killer dolls. This is not puppetmaster. Mary Shaw is easily the creepiest villain of recent memory. To me, shes absolutely terrifying. Also, it has an excellent soundtrack and i love the color palette in the film, lots of blues and it has a grainy look. Really great, i wish it would come out on bluray. Hopefully some people reply cause i'm really curious as to why some people hate this movie, i realize the story isn't groundbreaking, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be. Everyone i've shown this movie to has come out saying how much it scared the crap outta them. |
I liked it. It wasnt ground breaking or anything. I thought it had a creepy overall feel to it which I liked.
I thought it was heads and tails above any of the Saw movies. |
a fun, gothic spook-fest.
Wahlberg's razor made me laugh |
I it was kind of shallow eyecandy and that it wasn't as fun or as smart as it could have been. But, you can't deny the potency of the imagery, and since it's a movie and all, you look at it. On a certain level, a movie succeeds if what you look at is cool shit. On that level Dead Silence works. On any other level it's kind of C+ at best. I root for Bousmann, but he needs to up his game intellectually and spiritually.

I Like Dead Silence.I think it had a lot of holes in it though.Unanswered questions and inaccurate scenes like when Jamie went back to the scene where his wife was murdered. He wouldn't have been allowed and when it Showed Mary Shaw in the mirror after she was killed, there was only a little blood around her neck (and none around her mouth, shockingly),whereas anyone would know there'd have been buckets of it.
Some of it was cheesy and looked a little silly. The good points are that it had real people, not just loads of silly gorgeous looking teens running around.I thought Judith Roberts was perfect for the role as Mary Shaw.It was actually made for her! Nobody else could have done a better job of playing Mary. The emotion portrayed (By Jamie in particular, although brief) was believable and dating back to 1941 half of Ravensfair did Mary in,which happens a lot in real life when a kid goes missing and there is even the slightest hint or rumour about someone that they think might be involved.I think the drama elements were striking because of that. Also,Mary wasn't an in out, simple villain when she was alive e.g. the scene where she was talking to Michael Ashens corpse and could hear him talking back showed more layers and the murder scene where she was getting her tongue cut out, courtesy of the Ashen men and other blokes in Ravensfair gave us a sense of compassion. Sorry for rambling on and on a load of crap, everyone. |
I quite liked Dead Silence. It's one of those films that if you've seen it once, the non-action-y bits start to drag, but the guy from Saw was good in it and it had a fairly good if gross twist. Dolls are crazy-creepy anywho...
