I've been meaning to pick up a copy of In The Mouth of Madness for awhile. I loved it when it came out so I'm keen to give it another day in court. I watched From Dusk Till Dawn today and its as great as I remember it. I used to worship Tarantino about 6 or 7 years ago... now I have a love/hate thing going on. |
re. Dusk Til Dawn ... people either love it or hate it ..
i love it. (my wife hates it) |

The Wild Bunch ~ great late 60s turn of the century western about outlaws making their last stand in Mexico. |
Quote:
i have a book - possibly by John McCarthy - that credits the Wild bunch with being the 1st splatter movie. the 1st (american?) film to actually show people being hit with bullets - and the bullets actually doing damage.. |
Quote:
Splatter movie ehh? not quite but I can see someone saying that. And yeah it's an American film about American outlaws trying to out run justice and new technology by running to Mexico. |
Quote:
The Wild Bunch was pretty bloodthirsty for Westerns of the time. Tame by todays standards of course but I bet there would've been a bunch of cats that loved it for the splatter back then! Blood Feast would've turned a few heads too I imagine :D |
Out x-mas shopping and came across "Its Alive/Its Alive2/Island of the Alive" triple feature for $10.

as for the Wild Bunch, think it was because it was one of the first movies to show killing in slow mo. although i guess bonnie and clyde did that first, i think... wild bunch is fucking kick ass tho, i havent seen it in years. |
Quote:
I picked that up this week too. Might start watching it tonight. |

he was wicked.. a lot of people i've talked to that hate it - didnt like the twist from crime thriller to horror .. (which is one of the things i loved about it.) you want to see another movie that has a radical twist 1/2 way through - try to get your hands on a copy of Miracle Mile. |

I love that too, and I, too, have found that most people don't. Most like to sit down and be comfortable with a solid genre flick, whereas this is more a double genre movie, Like Dead Alive (Braindead) or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. These kind of multi-talented films have more potential for unique quality. It's sad that more people can't dig that, but to each his own. I think it is a movie to be seen twice, though, whether you enjoyed the first viewing or not. |
