Oh, man... The Descent is one of my favorite Monster Movies and all-time favorite horror movies...

BUT

It DEFINITELY has it pitfalls... Lots of them, actually... I think it's a film with a lot of mistakes and a lot of merits... Pick and choose which outweighs the other. I choose "merits," but I can't argue with someone who would choose "mistakes."

Re: Another Jeepers Creepers. Honestly, I REALLY liked the original. I found it incredibly underrated. I thought that it built believable sympathetic (but not PAthetic) characters and a successfully creepy villain/killer. I thought that there was descent build-up. I loved it.

Jeepers Creepers 2... It was... Ok... It chose a different genre - Siege mixed in with a little bit o' revenge.

BUT

It was really Leland Palmer that makes it.

My biggest problem with it was the fact that it, even though effective to some, was all about the claustrophobic caves and feel. Oddly enough, I feel safer in those situations. It seemed to drag on, and for some reason, the monsters were disappointing to me. It just didn't work for me.

That's interesting how claustrophobia isn't effective on you... What films work for you?

Honestly, the claustrophobia was VERY effective for me... My problem was that the director painstakingly took the first 1/2 hour in the cave bringing up this incredibly intense and claustrophobic feel to it...

And then the girls spend the rest of the movie running around from the monsters.

Claustrophobia isn't that effective on me, either, since I prefer small spaces as opposed to large ones. I'm comfortable with small spaces, as long as I can easily remove myself from the smaller setting when I wish. Claustrophobia becomes a problem when I am trapped so tightly it is hard to move, or when I'm stuck in a space with no possible exit. Like being buried alive. I'm no Uma Thurman, so I'd pretty much be screwed.

That's where The Descent got me. Climbing through those small tunnels, unable to go backwards, and once the exits caved in? Hell.

Back on topic, I'm actually looking forward to a third Jeepers Creepers film. Not a 'see-it-in-theatres-on-day-one' type of anticipation, nor any anticipation at all really... but I wouldn't say no to watching the DVD.

I think The Creeper is a pretty effective character. Hell, while the second film was no masterpiece, it held some pretty tense Creeper moments. When he breathed heavily on to the glass of the bus? Freaked me out for a while.

They were running around, yes. But the time it took to get to that part, eh, it seemed like too much.

As far as what works for me, nothing really. I'm not really scared of anything. There are a few movies that have left a slight impression, such as Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer and Dead Birds(Not sure why). But they don't really make me squirm in my seat.

Now I will say High Tension kept me on the edge of my seat...literally. But it was a very fast paced movie, and it had suspense that seemed to work. I enjoyed it. But not all movies like this, I enjoy.

Creep was a pretty fast paced movie, but it really wasn't my forté. It didn't have enough depth, and there was a lot that it didn't explain. Not to mention I had really high hopes for it, considering the great reviews it got. And that may have been part of my problem with The Descent. I had too high of hopes and expectations, and when it didn't work the way I had hoped, it fell off of my list.

As far as Jeepers Creepers, the first one wasn't really scary, but I did love the atmosphere and style. A very creepy film, and a good attempt at another slasher villain. The second one started out okay, but turned back downhill for the rest of the film, very quickly. I don't care to watch the second installment, again, anytime soon. Not to mention the insane amount of pointless profanity.

Maybe I'm expecting too much out of new movies, but some are just outright, awful. Example, the White Noise series. But I do tend to like a lot of the very, very, low budget films out there. But hey, that's just me.

I do like the creeper and I loved the first jeepers creepers. It was an excellent film and the ending was very unexpected and sudden. Kinda good like "Oh my god...it's over." The second one was not good at all, but not particularly bad. I would be interested in seeing the psychic woman and the main girl from the first one return, it would be pretty cool.

I never caught the first two films. Are they good monster flicks, or trumped up B-quality trash?

Depends on your taste. I thought the first one was a rather good horror film. The second one fell behind.

I'll give it a shot then. It looked rather good in the previews....

Jeepers Creepers III: Cathedral

About eight months back, Victor Salva was in talks to direct the third installment of his Jeepers Creepers franchise for MGM. Various news stories have broke since then, with rumors of a possible back-to-back shoot with a fourth film.

Today it was revealed that the film will now carry a new moniker and that it is about to begin shooting.

Once titled Jeepers Creepers 3: The Creeper Walks Among Us, Fangoria received word that the film will now be titled Jeepers Creepers III: Cathedral and is about to enter preproduction.

“The script, now titled Jeepers Creepers III: Cathedral, is about to enter pre-production at MGM and does include a prologue in the Old West where we see how the Creeper became a frightening part of cowboy and Native American folklore...”

Salva also reveals some plot points of the story and explains how Gina Philips makes her return to the franchise, news which we also broke exclusively here in March.

"...one aspect of the third film features Trish Jenner [again played by Gina Philips from the original film], who, 23 years later, has a teenage son of her own, named Darry after her long lost brother. Trish is having a terrible recurring dream where her son meets the same terrible fate as her brother. Now a rich and powerful woman, Trish is determined to stop the Creeper once and for all.”

Salva also teases that "It also revisits characters from both films, lets us learn more about what the Creeper is and, by popular demand, reintroduces the infamous Creeper truck.”
