Killer’s Moon (1978)
Controversial British Slasher Shocker that back in its day clearly pushed the boundaries of what could be shown in a movie. It does not break as many taboos (in fact it's only one taboo really) as more recent offerings have but you have to admire a film that dared to push the boundaries of horror and is still a pretty harrowing experience in its own right. There is no gore and the most violent scene involves faked animal cruelty that is delivered as a jump scare rather than being gratuitous (I’m not going to reveal what taboo this film breaks, I just want to note that it’s not non-simulated animal cruelty). Even as a stand-alone slasher this film is very unconventional-since it is given at the start that the killers’ are four escaped mental patients who have been given experimental drugs that make them think they are in a perpetual dream and not experiencing real life. The focus is quite neutral, displaying a point of view that is neither solely of the killers’ or victims’ rather than having the camera view being that of a killer stalking their victim. This means that you don’t get any psychedelic or surreal dream sequences which this film doesn’t really need anyway.
To summarise this film is only for the more adventurous horror fans and you may need to have a shower after watching it.

Killers Moon is an amazing film - so fucking strange. The whole tripping bit is so unique. The Killers looked kinda like Droogs too,

This is one of my personal fave films.

You're right there's nothing like it, I haven't been able to get it out of my head all day.

I love that movie! Did you know that there's a sequel?

Will have to check this one out sounds great.

newb 08-18-2012 07:21 AM

rewatched a couple in anticipation of the sequels

The Expendables ---mindless fun and the sequel looks to amplify that

Taken--- Liam Neeson as an action hero...who would have thunk it...but it works

also Bad Ass---Danny Trejo kicking ass...not up to par with Machete, but worth a watch [netflix instant]

Re-visited. As entertaining as I remembered it, although it drags for a bit after the 1-hour mark. Still, pretty good old-school.

One of my guilty pleasures (some others being Serendipity, A Night At The Roxbury, etc.) but never makes me feel the least bit guilty about re-watching it. A blast, even after all these years.

One of my favorite films of my college days. Never get tired of re-watching it.

Nifty little film. Good to see filmmakers still trying to think out of the box. Pretty harrowing and terrifying ordeal for the lead character, if you think of her situation (goodbye normal life). If only the climax wasn't too cliched...

Pretty sure it's from Castle. I can't see Mal acting that way.

I watched Son of Godzilla. This one is really hokey with the goofy music, Minilla's slapstick parts and the fact that Godzilla looks ridiculous in this one. Plus the plot is a little weird and the whole thing takes place on a secluded island away from civilization which kinda takes you out of the usual Godzilla universe. But it's a lot of fun.

"Is all what we see or seem
but a dream within a dream...?"

Frankly, I didn't think much of The Raven other than a mystery whodunnit with Poe as the central figure. But when I learned James McTeigue was the director, I HAD to see it. (most of you should know why)

And, like his first directorial effort, McTeigue did not disappoint. Fantastic gloomy and gothic atmosphere, a picture-perfect "graphic novel"-esque whodunnit based on Poe's works complete with plenty of gory murders and set pieces, two superbly developed complex characters in the main protagonist and antagonist (specially the former), very pacy script which keeps you engrossed, and a true blue climactic ending which feels very real considering the whole buildup of the entire film. Take a bow, James McTeigue and John Cusack.

If you are a true Poe fan and have read all/most of his works, you will thoroughly enjoy it. A brooding, taut and superbly made film - I am definitely getting the Blu-Ray ASAP.

Don't go by the negative vibes this film has generated ever since it's release. Watch it and decide for yourself. As for me, I loved it from start to end, and will toss it a pretty high recommendation.

The Divide.

I guess this is another one of those films where Michael Biehn is just there to pay the bills. It starts off with a sad yet beautiful sci-fi type shot. But turns into complete crap. The characters are for the most part worthless scumbags. As soon as the veil of society is lifted or something is lost, they all revert to base behavior. There is a twist dropped in the movie which is never explained. The characters don't seem to care about it either. It's kind of like if in Night of the Living Dead, no one cared about the zombies outside and started fighting each other for no reason other than base survival. The movie is long too with an ending that will make you wonder why you even watched at all.

Cabin In The Woods

This was great. Wish more studios took this approach rather than churning out remakes. It borrowed a bunch of stuff from other flicks but still delivered one of the more entertaining horror films of the year.

Sahara: Eh

Bourne Identity: Still good especially after having watched Bourne Legacy

Thor: Second time seeing, first time after Avengers. Didn't realize how different Thor and Loki seem in Thor then they do in Avengers. Also i realized they never explain in Avengers how Thor was able to go back to Earth or show any kind of surprise or shock when he sees Loki alive. He just already knew.

Road to Perdition: A fantastic movie that i never hear anyone talk about. One of my favorite movies of all time

Out of all of those, Sahara is my favorite. I love the story and Steve Zahn is one of my favorite comedic actors.

Cute comedy about D&Ders who start up a "utopia for gamers" (e.g. a LARP community).

Not amazing, but cute.

2.5/5.

I liked them both. The first one lived up to all the good reviews. And the second one was also good just not as good as the first. Is 3 any good? Gonna be watching that soon.
