Christian Horror..??
Okay I know there is genres of horror.. But I read this article the other day in a mag called christian beat (yeah what the hell was I thinking, but I read the cover title on front and it read "Christian Horror, it wont save us." ) yeah I was thinking how corny is that. Well anyways one of my friends is very religious and she is always wanting to convert me to her religion anyways, I read the mag she had got in mail .. the article about chrisitian horror... it talked about how the exorcist, hellraiser, the wishmaster, and many other films are considered "christian horror" I have never heard of this... any of you ????? so anyways I did my research and hell there is plenty of sites that considers those movies chrisitian horror... I never knew this, I guess we all learn something everyday

Im christian and I dig christian horror.....It scares the hell out of me because I know the devil is real and is very present in the world today. Im really into the prophecy film and also a big fan of the omen series.....
|
I guess.....a good horror movie is a good horror movie....Christians want to claim it as their won....so be it......
|
Exorcist could be considered christian, but Hellraiser or Wishmaster? WTF, mate? I might be wrong, but isn't Hellraiser more geared towards S&M nuts?
As for the so-called christian horror sub-genre, I'll watch the ones I like, and I won't watch the ones I don't like, simple as that. But I'm Buddhist, what the hell do I know? :D |
I dont know, I jsut thouht the article was funny. I just never knew there was something called christian horror..Before I read it I thought it was going to be about the passion of the christ... guess not LOL actually it didnt even mention the movie
|
Would "The Devils Advocate" be considered "Christian Horror?"
|
Does Mel Gibson's "Jesus Chainsaw Massacre" qualify?
|
maybe frailty or children of the corn?

Yeah, Wishmaster doesn't really seem to fit, but then again neither does Hellraiser. I've never heard the term 'Christian Horror', but I suppose it works. Although I would think more along the lines of The Exorcist and The Omen than Hellraiser o Wishmaster.
Someone asked about Devil's Advocate, I would say yes, that would fall into this category because it deals with religious themes. I think that would be kind of the defining trait... Good vs. Evil, Satan, demons, etc... |
If there is one thing I hate more than kids in horror movies, it's priests and religion.
|
Weird. I don't know some priests in horror movies are cool
Like the priest in 'Dead Alive' .... 'I Kick Ass for the Lord!' or the priests from 'The Exorcist' or the priest 'rager' in 28 days later |
Never seen a cool priest in a any kind of movie. That's like an oxymoron.

nope! Interesting and layered character but far from cool.
|
first we have the crusades, the inquistion, the salem witch trials, and now horror movies??? Dont you guys ever give up?? I guess christianity is responsible for everything, christian action films, christian drama, christian comedy, hey the Blues Brothers there was a nun in it and they were on a mission from God.
Christian horror = a big stretch of the imagination |
i dont think they specifecally mean Christian i think it is more about the releigious aspects that the movie might bring to light. dunno and i didnt know that...
|
the passion should be considered a christian horror, i hated that movie

Nonono, Harvey Keitel = Cool. He could be playing a 48 year old chronic bed-wetter who's afraid of bacon, but he'd be the coolest 48 year old chronic bed-wetter who's afraid of bacon in the world. |

I just don't think people involved in any kind of religion or sect are cool. Not even gurus and priests. If there's a god, then he's cool. That goes for other specific character traits too.

I guess I should have been more specific on what the article was talking about, I tryed to find it online but I couldnt.. But I was wanting to know if anyone had heard of a genre called that. I myself havent. But anyways what the article was about was how a lot of christian organizations are tired of how christians are portrayed in horror movies. They were complaining about this and have even been talking to many directors/producers of horror films to atleast make christians look more positive.
|
Christian organizations should be proud of the exposure. Bad press, good press, it's better than no press at all.

I have never heard of such a genre, I cant really recall whereas a horror film show christianity in a bad light, it is usually just standard good against evil stuff, but maybe I am missing something. |

That guy supposedly is into christian horror film making. But how is your movie supposed to be a christian horror film when most of your crew isn't? About horror films not portraying christianity the way they'd like them to be, how exactly ARE they portrayed? More than half the time they're the good guys. They should be happy with that. |
thats because99.9% of the time we are the good guys, not just fiddy/fiddy. *mumbles* fucking mormons ruining our perfection*
