The Eye
Has anyone seen it? If so what do you think about it...
I think it was well wired and scary. all japanness films are dont you think?!?!??? |
I am actually in the process of watching this one...its taken me a few days..as my kids keep interupting me so i miss what is being said lol but i will give some thoughts on this movie once i manage to make it all the way through! ~S~
|
Well, not bad, but I wouldn't rate it as a very good movie. I'm not a big fan of these Japanese horror flicks.
I have a hard time to get into it, the background and the characters are kinda too different from our everyday life. |
Great movie. Its been a long time since I've had goosebumps watching a horror movie, but this one delivered big time.
It got me so interested in japanese horror ,that I bought 2 more movies over the weekend. "Versus" and "JU-ON , The Grudge". |
Pass. It started out strong but I didn't feel like it delivered.
I do find some Japanese horror to be very good and engaging - I identified a little too much with the mother in Dark Water, from a parent's perspective. SPOILER AHEAD The Eye was too much like the Sixth Sense for me. |
I think the movie was great, and in general most japanies movies are. Have to agree with your spoiler though, but it didn't ruin the movie at all.
|
Started off good but lost interest and finally dwindeled down to the pits of hell......in other words i thought it sucked ass
|
It wasnt BAD i thought, but ive seen much better, especially from japanese horror.
Started off strong but ran out of breath after about the first half. And it was hard not to feel like you were watching the sixth sense, although the eye is a much more well made film i would say. |
i loved the EYE but i agree the second half was weak, JU-ON is my most recent favorite, i think some of the best modern films are coming out of asia right now....most of them are being remade and hopefully they wont suck.
|
I realy liked the Eye.
I like the Elevator scene. |
Any Threads On The EYE? If not here it is!
AWESOME MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Genuinely scary, supposed to be American made by Tom Cruise later. EVEN SCARIER! Like Sixth Sense but more subtle, amazing cinematography, kicks but. If you haven't seen it DO! Forgive me if there is a thread somewhere. This one deserves a couple anyway. |
Yes its a great film but I think theres already a thread about this somewhere.
|
Yes this one is a great movie, don't know that it needs a Tom Cruise make over!
I've seen their movie(Pang brothers) "Bancock Dangerous" which was pretty good(Not Horror), but have yet to see "Bancock Haunted", do you know if its any good? Feral Cat |
Bancock
No I haven't heard of it. What is it about?
Are these festival flicks? I' would have see them at our video store if we had them here. We watch almost everything....... within reason! |
"The Eye", is a thai movie by two brothers called Jimmy and Oxide Pang! The first movie they did was called "Bancock dangerous" and was about a deaf hitman and his friend. This movie was seen as so impressive they got the funding for "The Eye". Since then they have made a movie called "Bancock Haunted", which I believe is about a young orphan who is Plauged by a ghost in his orphanage, but I'm not 100% as I have not seen this movie yet!

Thanks
OHHHHHH...... I've got to see these. I'll be looking for them.
Gee I like cats, have four myself. Always can get the goods from a cat! Thanks for the referral! |
The eye was alright, i expected more from the rave reviews tho. I'm not a big Sixth sense fan...
|
Yes it is a good film, sadly though Bangkok Haunted isn't that great at all. I like Dangerous so expected this one to be ok, it just isn't.
|
I've said this before on here but it's worth repeating. The Eye is a great movie. There is one scene that no matter how many times I watch it, gives me goosbumps. I think it has a lot to to with the soundtrack as well as the visuals. Ya gotta crank it in dolby 5.1 for the full effect.

The Eye
Hey Budman, do you mean the elevator scene? If not which one?
I think The Eye kicks Sixth Sense butt. Much creepier, less hollywood. I liked Sixth, but had it all figured out a the beginning of the movie, the way everyone was ignoring him completely was really obvious. Better than a lot of movies that have been out in the last few years though. I liked the ghost behind the door at the party. The one we DIDN'T see. |
Although the elevator scene was quite creepy, it was the scene where she was doing the caligraphy that freaked me out.
You seem to like ghost stories, did you see The Changeling? |
ghosts...
Damn right! Love them!
Yes, The Changling is one of my favorites. A Canadian one too! Loved the bouncing ball part, creeps me out every time. I always liked George C Scott's acting too. The calligraphy scene in The Eye WAS good! |

Ghosts...
Hi Budman & Feral Cat!
Totally agree with you on George C. Budman, he was great in those movies, and did make a terrific Eb. I don't think I have seen Dark Water. I would remember it. New? What is it about? |
Hideo Nakata, who directed Ringu (the ring), did this movie it's a year or two old now, but it’s a fantastic ghost story!
“After winning a custody battle for her daughter, single mother Yoshimi moves into what she thinks is the perfect apartment with her daughter Hitomi. No sooner have they unpacked than strange things begin to disturb their new life. A water leak from the supposedly abandoned apartment above gets bigger and bigger, a child's satchel reappears even though Yoshimi throws it away several times, and she is haunted by the image of a child wearing a yellow mackintosh who bears a striking resemblance to a young girl who disappeared several years before.” … I think if you liked the eye and ghost movies in general you will love this! Dark Water
OOOOOOOOOOO.....................
I have GOT to see this one. I watch a lot of festival flicks, but the blockbuster here does not have the greatest selection of them. I'm glad someone else likes these because I've seen great ones in all genres. Do you watch other ones? Keep passing on the great recommendations! |
It’s nice that some one on here actually wants too talk about movies and not just attempt to start the 3rd riech from behind there keyboard somewhere!
Me I watch all sorts im into general b movies etc and trawling the bottom shelf for lost gems not just horror! As for other ghost movies, well maybe you would like to try the “Devils Backbone” and “Rouge”, if you have not seen them! Feral Cat :) |
movies...
You are right, the dumb arguments over nothing get boring and ruin threads. Sometimes I have been trying to get them back on track, but they just post over it!
I am really enjoying talking with you guys about movies and other things. The majority of the people here are really great. Like I said in another thread, a few people are just compliment fishers just begging for attention. I'm sure you know who they are too. The rest of us are here to share our views, get good referrals etc. Most people I know don't like horrors [ who knows why anyone wouldn't ] so I don't get to share stuff with anyone but my hubby and we like the same ones anyway. Anyway, I wrote those movies down and will look for them. Have you seen Northfork? Good movie, weird too. |

Northfork
It is about a town that was evacuated because the government wanted to put a lake on the land for some new developments.
It is also about a very sick boy a priest caring for him and angels. A group of gypsy angels who are very strange are staying in one of the abandoned houses looking for another angel. The boy meets them, and tries to convince them that he is the angel they are looking for. Very surreal. There is questoin to whether they are real or in his mind, although things happen to show they are real. Boy this is a hard one to explain! Daryl Hannah is one of the angels, and Anthony Edwards. Peter Cayote and James Woods are also in this. It is a pretty new release. Interesting that this was an actual town and the flood story was true. They filmed it there and used the lake in many scenes. Gotta move my but now. I have to go to my PM shift early. Talk to you later, have a great day till then! If it is day where you are. |
Good to see some people actually discussing horror movies.
I'm at work ,so if I dissapear its because the bosses are lurking. Since watching "The Eye" I've been searching for some good foreign horror. I bought "Ju-On The Grudge" and "Versus" but haven't watched them yet. I have also heard of "Dark Water" and will be picking that one up. Another one thats supposed to be pretty good is "Kairo" , I think it may go by the name of "Pulse" as well. |
the american remake of dark water is supposed to be coming out soon... that pisses me off. wonder why they can't just release the original ( which i found great )
|
Typical American corporate greed. We see a chance to make a buck and we go for it. Is that a bad thing....sometimes. A couple of examples of movies "AMERICANIZED" where the original was far superior. [ again, IMO ] "La Femme Nikata","The Vanishing" which I think was directed by the same as the original. I didn't see the original "Ring" [ Ringu ] so I can't comment on that. And look what we did to John Woo. Has he made a good movie since we got a hold of him?
|
Hi, back again!
Budman, I agree with every word you said! Johnny woo's American movies are just annoying. Why must everything be re- made? It's like all the songs that have been redone.
Can't anyone come up with their OWN original idea without just trying to cash in on someone elses?????????? I won't see the Dark Water remake until I see the original. Here's a worse crime, a movie copy of a remake like fear. com copying the Ring which copied Ringu. LOTS OF THESE! That move, fear, was just pathetic! Maybe if we had seen it first, but PLEASE! |
i concur.
the original "nikita" was an incredible movie and then they just had to go and make " point of no return"... ugh ! budman, you should really see "ring" the original version. i think it was far more creepier than it's american remake which didn't do much for me. i've yet to see some of john woo's work before he became so americanized. if anyone could recommend me something, that would be nice ! |
Right!
You are so right, Ringu WAS Better!

Budman and hellfire1 I have to agree with you both about the remakes, its sad that people can’t enjoy a movie unless it’s given the white American touch! Ringu is one of the only movies to ever really scare me! US ring was ok to watch but not even close on the fear!
… The killer along with hard boiled was the movie that changed the way action is shot all over the world, I think maybe it’s the perfect action movie, Chow yung fat was so good, he too is lame now he’s in Hollywood! …Along these lines I would also recommend “A better tomorrow” and “God of Gamblers” The original Vanishing was really disturbing as a Dutch/French co-production when it was remade it seemed like a mid afternoon TV movie! Funny thing though there was a remake thread a while ago and everyone was desperate for movies to be remade, I just don’t get it I want new and original … I think that’s why I’m always searching the bottom shelf for the movies no one watches hoping to get lucky! … I just watched the devils backbone again and I really can’t recommend it enough as a ghost story, not really scary, but beautiful and sad!
