Yesterday we reported that it was rumored that Brandon Routh had been cast as Superman in the upcoming Superman movie, and it has now been confirmed.

Routh has not starred in a feature film and has had only guest recurring roles. Director Bryan Singer, however, has repeatedly stated that he would like an unknown actor in the role.

Meanwhile, screenwriter Dan Harris has told The Chicago Sun-Times that the script, tentatively titled Superman Returns, will follow events from the Christopher Reeve movies.

"He'll begin in his late 20s. He lost his powers in Superman 2 and now he has the powers back. But something has happened because he's been away for a long time. We're taking off from the first two Superman films with Christopher Reeve. We use his history and then move on with big twists and great special effects."

Harris also revealed that he wanted to have had Christopher Reeve involved in some capacity. "It would have been so nice to have Chris be a part of the new film as an adviser. Who knows what his title would have been, but we know Chris would have loved being involved. Being Superman meant so much to him."

I think they can really make it better this time around. The technology made the series a bit cheesy at the time. I am looking forward to this one. But the new actor doesn't have Reeves' charisma.

Sam The Egg 10-22-2004 03:14 PM

well, I haven't seen Routh in anything so I don't know. But he hasn't been in any major movies, only bit parts and TV stuff, so who knows

Fluff the Ho 10-22-2004 03:45 PM

i actually prefer that they pick an unknown to play the part. i mean come on, the guy is stepping in as fuckin REEVE. i have faith in him.

and yeh, the old stuff was sick but of course didnt look as good as it could. that not to say they wont completely over do it tho. but it sunds like they really want to make it live up to the old ones.

I heard on the radio here in Australia that they were filming it (or part of it) here in Sydney, starting next month!

If this is true it will be good to have another big budget movie filmed here. Sydney scrubs up well in movies.

It was pretty cool when the matrix was released to see buildings in the background (when they are on rooftops etc) that I have worked at.

Fluff the Ho 10-22-2004 04:39 PM

Hehe. I don't know... Bring It On was ok in a preppy kind of way. ;)

Is it also the same school the outside shots of Buffy were filmed at?? Looks similar to me.

I'm glad their using an unknown actor. Much like Christopher Reeve was when he took the part.

EvilEd 10-23-2004 02:07 AM

After over 10 years of crappy scripts that included such things as kung fu superman and Luthor being an alien. Finally Bryan Singer has turned this thing around and now its looking really promising, much like Batman Begins, he's casting an unknown, he's using John Williams score, and he's making this movie with the love and care that he put into the X-Men movies. I salute this guy!

And the rumors of Kevin Spacey has Lex Luthor is quite excellent, I can definetely see him playing Lex.

Ya! Ive never even heared of Christian Bale:rolleyes:

EvilEd 10-23-2004 05:13 AM

that came out wrong. but now that you mention it...Bale is not a big name star or anything, although he's been in a couple of pictures to get a decent release, he's not Keaton or Clooney.

Nic Cage woulda blew chunks as Supes. Not even counting how he looks and his MASSIVE hair loss (no spit curl for that fella) has anyone thought about his voice? He sounds like he's always got this bad cold and can't breathe thru his nose. Not too super.
And this new guy....he's a soap opera actor for crissakes! I dunno, could be bad....really really bad. But who knows, I've never seen the cat act so maybe he's a badass and we'll all be surprised.
I hope it doesn't suck.
