ok this is going to sound really offensive and i dont mean any offence to anyone!!!

i promise, normally something like this wouldnt bother me but today it did. this girl in my 4th period class had a shirt on that said "i love lesbians"......like i said normally that wouldnt bother me but it did.im not a homophobe or anything, just something didnt feel right. (and no im not a lesbian), but i have no problem with gay people, you know, my phliosophy is: If I dont see it, why should I care?

I think it was because she was advertising it like it was something special that bothered me. i know it wasnt her as a person because she's really nice. but it still bothers me now, and i got out of school at 2. wow, im confused???????
i think it was the whole advertising thing, that bothered me.

im sry if i offended anyone. but its my opinion so i stated it.:)

Death By Jell-O 11-10-2004 04:24 PM

The sad thing is most people who wear stuff like that are just being trendy.....It's become "in vogue" to wear t-shirts such as the one you've described....Chances are, she's not a lesbian and she's just trying to be cool.......If she is lesbian, more power to her, but it's still just a fashion thing......The "cool" thing is trying to blatantly offend people..

Sedated_replica 11-10-2004 04:41 PM

Attention, plain and simple. LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME , LOOK AT ME. I can't stand it. You'll see that a lot in school. Girls more than guys.

Haunted 11-10-2004 04:56 PM

It's never a bad thing to say how you feel. If what you feel is hurtful say, "I feel this way, it's hurtful, and I don't like it." Then, people will understand that you have a certain problem with say, a specific group of people, and thus they can help you understand and overcome.

I don't think you're a homophobe, and there are 3 ways of looking at this.

1. Trendy is probably the right analysis. It is a very attention grabbing shirt.

2. Being a lesbian isn't always about sex despite the concept of sexualtiy being a second part to "homosexual." Lesbian is a type of woman. Just as heterosexuality doesn't define a person neither should homosexuality (unless we make it so, as this young woman was doing.)

3. I'm not comeing down on you, George, when I say this, but would it have been as annoying if she had a shirt that said, "I love men?"

george 11-10-2004 05:08 PM

haunted, to answer # 3, yeah that would have been anoying. really anoying accually? because truth be told in todays society people jump around to different sexes all the time, and even thats anoying.

But i do think the whole attention getting thing was what she was doing.

Arioch 11-10-2004 05:13 PM

It was all about attention (get used to dealing with that and women, they go hand and hand) and the fact that it is "cool" and "in" and "trendy" to be a lesbian....its hip.....being a gay male however is a different story....keep that shit to yourself:rolleyes:

This culture makes me sick....

If you have no problem with gay people, how can it bother you?

I got tomorrow off so I thought I would tip a few tonight.

FairyKorpes 11-10-2004 06:31 PM

Big deal lol. Maybe she got it from a gay supportive rights thing, who knows.

If anyone did apposed it, it would make as though they were anti-gay, and that's a whole other ball of wax that i'm sure administration doesn't want to deal with.

Get with the times lol

urgeok 11-10-2004 06:45 PM

Like wearing a shirt like that in school. That's my opinion.

Administration sees fit to suspend a student for saying a prayer in class at a public school. But that shirt is acceptable. I dont need to get with the times. Somebody, somewhere else needs to get a grip.:p

"Hey pot" "hey kettle" we're black.

Shut the fuck up!

ShankS 11-10-2004 09:20 PM

seen quite a few girls with these sort of tshirts on.... cant see the problem tbh. Some people look into things too much.

gren 11-10-2004 09:30 PM

just trying to get attention and be cool, and HIP. like WOW i cant believe ur wearing that! ur such a free soul!

sorry, i woudlnt wear one cuz thats kinda gay (no pun intended). anyways, im not really into sayings on my shirts

urgeok 11-11-2004 02:31 AM

its that whole lipstick lesbian thing thats supposed to be so chiq now ... like the girls kissing in clubs.

its all done for shock value ..none of these girls are lesbians .. its just a big tease .. like the 'porn star' tshirts.

as far as double standards go .. well the media is all over the gay men thing too .. will and grace ..queer eye for the straight guy ...
apparently all gay men are funny and a riot to be around and all lesbians are beautiful. The world loves cliches.

but this shock value stuff isnt any different from the kids showing up at school dressed like little brittney sluts ..

or the kids that dye their hair blue or the mohawks or anything else the mainstream finds extreme.... its 1/2 emulating the culture heros and 1/2 rebelling against parents and society norms in general .. something the kids have been doing for 50 years.

Girls tend to rebel a little harder ... as they are naturally repressed as part of the conditioning process ..
(be a good girl ... say no, etc) which stems from the 'bad girls are sluts' and 'you're gonna get pregnant' fears. Guys dont get this treatment and instead the double standards are encouraged.

Anyway .. when you see these t-shirts and crap at school .. its not so much the kids .. they're always pushing the envelope as part of the growing and experimentation most kids experience ..
its the parent or parents that have given up and are losing the battle that are the real ones to blame.

Especially single parents who are having a tough time coping with their own lives and work and paying the bills without having to fight a battle for every little thing that comes along.

that being said ... fake or not ... girls kissing is pretty cool :)

Horrorfiend 11-11-2004 02:41 AM

Now picture Rosie O'Donnel kissing your mom. Is girls kissing each other cool now?

urgeok 11-11-2004 02:43 AM

if they were the only 2 on the face of the planet doing it - i would have to say no.

dont think thats the case now - is it ?

Horrorfiend 11-11-2004 02:45 AM

It was just a joke. Jeez.

Steve_Hutchison 11-11-2004 04:37 AM

Lesbians aren't particularly cool.

That's an interesting statement - how do you arrive at this conclusion? What other sexual preference is cool by comparison?

I once saw a T-shirt instructing me to "RELAX" from a guy called "FRANKIE"... I'll relax when I darn well feel like it, thank you very much.

urgeok 11-11-2004 05:09 AM

cool is a relative thing

EXTR3MIST 11-11-2004 05:15 AM

No it isn't - it's a positive term for good, excellent, marvellous... what is cool related to?

urgeok 11-11-2004 05:16 AM

its related to what you personally think is cool ...

ShankS 11-11-2004 05:23 AM

If a girl wants to wear a statement tshirt...then I've absolutely no complaints at all.

EXTR3MIST 11-11-2004 05:23 AM

Then with such a pointlessly wide scope bullshit is a relative thing too, but lesbians don't particularly speak it.

Inferring lesbians are not cool suggests they are not good - or at least, not popular to like.

urgeok 11-11-2004 05:30 AM

pointlessly wide scope ?

what the hell ?

Are you saying there is one right answer ?

EXTR3MIST 11-11-2004 05:45 AM

If cool or not cool is relative only to the announcer (and thus excused as merely opinion) then one could say homosexuals are rubbish.

Rubbish being relative to me by thinking and saying it, I could get away with that one.

Hiding prejudice behind "uncool" is fair enough, but I'm sure in this case most lesbians would disagree with the terminology.

Any lesbians here?

urgeok 11-11-2004 06:14 AM

its really this simple.

you make a statement on what is good/cool/acceptable based on your personal feeling about the thing.

There are several billions of peope on the planet all with different perceptions of what is cool.

There is no definitive peramiters for cool except one ..

If you think its cool - it is for you
if you dont - its not for you.

you cannot determine for other people what they think is cool or not.

cool is relative - to you and the people who happen agree with you.

None.

EXTR3MIST 11-11-2004 06:46 AM

It's an inaccurate term for a bold and prejudicial statement - if we are allowed to publicly slate sexual preferences and claim the terminology is relative to the speaker and therefore acceptable it opens the floodgates for further prejudices - Asians are not cool, Christians are uncool, Transsexuals are not particularly cool...

Tastes and perceptions of cool is not the issue - derogatory talk of entire sexualities is.

Lesbianism might "not be for you", but a place where this kind of pointless statement is allowed to fester will soon see further thoughtless and potentially harmful slurs from those keen to overstep the mark and not discuss curious issues without making their prejudices known in the process.

A horror forum filled with kids could probably do without it.

Steve_Hutchison 11-11-2004 06:54 AM

If it's alright for someone to own and wear a t-shirt like that, why couldn't someone wear something that says "I hate lesbians"? If it's accepted to love something, it's just as equally right to hate it, no?

I think I'm gonna get a tshirt that reads "I love polygamist bisexual chicks and I fuck them on a daily basis".

Agreed....no sex or sexual preference is cool or uncool....and when one is put on a pedestal in our society as "cooler" or more hip than others....something as seriously gone a stray....
