dog soldiers-fresh meat
i see trhey are making a sequel dog soldiers. which should be interesting, as the firstone was ...ok... well i suppose for a werewolf movie it was pretty damn good. this was what the producer david allen says about it ""The new movie begins right at the end of the first film. Cooper is picked up by an American team who, we find out, were the real opponents for the war games for Sgt. Wells’ squad. We discover more werewolves that we didn’t know about from the first movie, who may or may not be part of the family. There’s more action, more gore and there are definitely more werewolves. It’s all out in the woods again, with plenty of guns and blood."
sounds ok to me. |
I've seen a lot of hard core Brit fans of the movie pissed that americans are in the film.. figuring they are simply there to market the film State-side.
I think they see it as a form of selling out. I supposed if the americans are all killed off and made to look like fools then they'll be cool with it :) |
yeah the yanks will no doubt be fresh kill for the wolves :D ;)
This sequal should be good...read some stuff about it. Since it carries on properly from the original, just as if the first one was part one and this new installment will be the second part.....makes great back-to-back viewing. so many sequals add crap that wernt really ment to be. |
While I would like to see a trilogy, all I can say is that they better not screw it up. And I'm not too sure about this "Americanizing" stuff...
|
I tried to watch dog Soldiers once and was bored silly.I think I am the only horror fan ever who didn't care for it.Maybe the sequal will be more to my liking.....

i really liked it but there were some glaring problems in the end ... If you cant over look those things you might have a problem with it... i had trouble with the scene were one guy is fending off a wolf with one foot against the bathroom door while he was digging throught he wall to get to his buddy on the other side .. No on will ever be able to give me any reason for that that makes any kind of sense whatsoever. but personally .. i thought it was a fun movie .. the cast certainly put their backs into it .. |

"Fun" movie it may be - good horror movie it certainly isn't. Too much irony, one-liners, comedy characters and farcical situations to be worth more than a passing glance... and we Brits are sick of Wurzel Gummage Jnr. - we hear enough of him on nappy adverts and other crap TV all day without listening to him whinge on about losing his intestines. The Howling! American Werewolf in London! Wolf! (er, forget that last one...) |
I really disliked this film. Some may jump at me for saying this but I think its pretty cobviosu, due to the poor werewolf costumes it made the film seem ridiculous. I did however like the idea of them being extremely oversized although I though the design of them was awful.

I wouldn't mind seeing a ds sequel

just found some more info....

it sounds good, its a pitty it wasnt kept entirely a British acting crew, but hopefully it wont detract from the film. |

Good point, and one of the film's virtues - at least Neil Marshall relied on good old fashioned animatronics and prosthetics without resorting to odious CGI techniques.
|
I normally hate modern British horror, this along with Shaun of the dead are the only relly good genre films to come out of the UK in a long time! I think its a shame that one of the only fun movies to come out of Britain is being shot over sea's and given a Hollywood gloss ... Nothing wrong with American style movies, but surley its nice to watch something a bit diffrent now and then!

It's a shame in a way, but after reading the synopsis, it still sounds like it has potential to be a good sequal. But the original Dog Soldiers did pretty well, and if the reactions of the orginal film, here from members are anything to go by, who I think covers a main target audience, then imo an all British cast would still enable the film to do well in the States....even the mainstream viewers aswell. |
i dont know if the folks here are a very good representation of north american acceptance - of British horror.
Anymore than Japanese, Italian.. What you have here are fans of a genre that isnt widely popular in itself. The people here are hungry for movies, willing to try anything, and by the very nature of the genre - far more open minded. I dont know if you're aware of this but movies with heavy brit/scot/irish accents often are subtitled in north american releases .. I applaude the folks who are ready to embrace foreign horror movies (or movies in general) There are far too many neandrathals out there who refuse to watch a film if it's subtitled, black and white, or letterboxed ! (let alone hard to understand without paying attention) You want to make an american happy at the show .. throw in a carshase and a couple of big explosions. And a blonde with big fake tits. |

... any examples of which British movies they did that for?:) |

cripes i had a couple .. mostly scot films .. but there was a brit film too not long ago as well ..I cant think of any titles off the top of my head but i distinctly remember seeing it .. I'll find out. I know for a fact the origional Mad Max was redubbed without the aussie accents when released origionally in N/A .. They only just rereleased it with the origional voices a few years back. |
(The utterly fantastic) Transpotting was subtitled for the American audience.

Oh yeah, and Cooper was Tommy intrainspotting :D |
i thought Trainspotting was one of them ...
But I have the Criterion laserdisc so i couldnt verify it .. |
I think this sequel sounds good! I'm definatly going to go and see it if it is releashed, I loved the first movie...and I seriously can't believe they have to subtitle! Lol! Please remember some of the films they did it for, I really want to know!:p
|
Trainspotting: Try reading the book by Irvine Welsh - original Scottish version - and see if you Yanks can understand that.
|
the first 1 was pretty good, i bet the 2nd one will b better
