The Warriors

Yes I know not a horror movie but fuck! FUCK! I'm real amped on this movie at the moment I must have watched it about 3 times this week. "Warriors come out to play........" I think I'll have to check out a few more Walter Hill movies that I used to be into like 48Hrs, The Driver and Johnny Handsome. Anyone else like this movie as much as me?

Tat2 01-23-2005 05:36 PM

Yeah! I liked it. I've seen it several times but I don't have it...yet.
And if your gonna sing it, sing it right...

Warriors....come out to play-eee-aaaayyyy...

As you clink three glass bottles together.

Elvis_Christ 01-23-2005 05:41 PM

Sorry it was a very half assed rendition! David Patrick Kelly (I think that's the right name......someone will corredt me I'm sure) is awesome in that movie a real psycho bad guy. Yeh I've just been watching shit I've had on tape for ages. I might buy it when I get a DVD player next week.

Elvis_Christ 01-23-2005 05:43 PM

"CAN YOUUUUUUUUUU DIGGGGGGG IT!"

better?

filmmaker2 01-23-2005 06:36 PM

No reason....

I just LIKE doing THINGS like THAT!

The STE 01-23-2005 06:39 PM

I think it deserves way more attention than it's gotten. It's got a great villain and cool fight scenes.

majorbludd 01-23-2005 07:10 PM

but some severely non-threatening gangs....fuckin' mimes and baseball players...i dig it though

majorbludd 01-23-2005 07:14 PM

the actor who shot cyrus...and also had the line..."warriors, come out and play" was dennis quaids arch enemy in dreamscape..a movie that i've always dug...

just had to get that off my chest.

That's the one thing I didn't get when I was watching the movie. These are supposed to be all tough-style street gangs, yeah? Then why the fuck, when holding a BASEBALL BAT, did they not swing for the head?

And I still say the undercover cop chick was asking for it. That's entrapment!

urgeok 01-24-2005 05:55 AM

this movie DID garner a lot of attention when it was released.
Being an older guy, i saw it in the theatres...
At the time in the major cities - gang fights would break out in the theatres - because naturally being about gangs, gangs went to see it.

hard to believe that the tough ass lead protagonist went on to be the lead in Xanadu after this :D

the only other movie i knew to have an effect like this was American Grafitti ...
When i was a kid we used to ride out bikes to the drive in and sneak in through a hole we snipped in the fence.
I saw american grafitti this way and i'll never forget all the cars leaving the theatre, drag racing off in every direction ..

well, i guess Jaws had a similar impact .. as far as scaring people out of the ocean.

And the guy Arnie "lied to" in Commando, isn't it?

I saw American Graffiti, was pretty funny...kinda a bit before my time but hey, watchable all the same.
I never saw "?more american graffiti?", has anyone? How does it rate?

I thought the warriors was great, if you look past the lameness of some of the gang getups...awesome soundtrack and some really well done fight scenes (eg - the bathroom), different style of movie from what I had initially expected...yeah, I liked it - actually had it on dvd a while back, before my dumbfuck friend stepped on it...
I always laughed at the "I'll shove that bat up your ass and make you a popsicle" line thrown at those ?baseball furies? guys ...not so much because of what's being said, but because I always thought the guy sounds exactly like Butthead when he said it...

I remember seeing another movie in a video store about a gang of a different name come out around the same time, it had very similar cover art...might've been the wanderers? Big fat bald motherfucker on the front, among others. Anyone know what I'm talking about??
Never saw it, any good?

urgeok 01-24-2005 06:27 AM

there were a few 50's type gang films .. the wanderers being one .. lords of flatbush being another..

coincidentally enough - much more like american grafitti than the Warriors ..

newb 01-24-2005 06:29 AM

David Patrick Kelly...a great character actor who was in some good movies.

The_Return 01-24-2005 08:35 AM

Wow...that sounds like a great movie, Im gonna have to check it out

majorbludd 01-24-2005 10:35 AM

david patrick kelly....yeah he was a nasty fucker....thats why i cant stand movies today...there's not enough knifey fuckers like kelly or joe spinell, tom towles, michael ironside, bill duke, zdar, lance henriksen, etc. these guys looked like they had criminal records in the real world.....fuck todays hunky dicks....colin farrel couldn't hold michael biehns jockstrap!

BH14 01-24-2005 10:41 AM

Some of the lines are so funny. Good movie.. Got it on DVD few years ago.

"whats the matter with you all? you all going fa*%tt on me?!"

And that Orphan's leader is weird looking.

:D FUCK YEH! I agree! The villans in these older movies were way more believable. James Remar is one of my favorites especially in 48 Hrs.

I like how most of the gangs in this movie were cheesey cause it kinda reminds me of A Clockwork Orange and after all it was the 70s maybe you could blame Kiss and Alice Cooper for all the dumbass getups. As for a remake..... that's going to suck so fucking bad.

Cheetara101 01-24-2005 01:44 PM

i found the guys who were more meek to be far more effective than a guy who already looked like a killer.

playing against type is always way more interesting.

I fucking love "The warriors"!

"MTV Productions is producing a remake of The Warriors in conjunction with Paramount. Tony Scott is directing, and the movie is believed to have no guns with a focus on martial arts and street fighting. The movie is expected to be released in 2006. It won't be an actual "remake" of the 1979 film. Instead, it's going to be an updated version, probably set in the present day. From what I've heard they want to make a Matrix like Kung Fu movie and not a dedicated remake. So for all of you who were hoping that it would be set in 1979 NYC, sorry. The general theme and some of the names may stay intact but overall it's probably going to be completely different"

Also they are making a Warriors video game

CAN YOU DIG IT!

EXTR3MIST 01-24-2005 02:50 PM

Is that last pic above Bennett from Commando?

"Let off some steam, Bennett!" lol

i agree and understand....but when the content is gritty, like a horror or action flik i like the actors to look like they been through a couple scrapes...besides, most of the dudes i mentioned were good actors...except for robert zdar.....he just had a freakishly over-sized jaw.

Warriors is a great movie ... By the sound of it the remake will suck ass ...

Has anyone seen the fairly new Austrailian Gang movie called Aussie Park Boyz, its really pretty dam cool, more fistfights than any movie ever ...

Yep it's Bennett from Commando.

Elvis_Christ 01-30-2005 05:40 PM

Tony Scott doing the remake? Fuck I dunno about that.... hopefully it won't have as many bizzare homosexual overtones as Top Gun. I liked The Last Boyscout tho that was a really good movie and quite grittty for a big budget shoot em up.

Same here, I was a Junior in college when it came out in theaters. I actually liked it. I thought it was funny as hell in the end when the Warriors make it back to the beach and the Gramercy Riffs show up to finish those other guys off and some of them are carrying hockey sticks. wtf are inner city black gang members doing with hockey sticks??? :D I have this film on vhs with the original cover box....

blackknight 02-18-2005 10:01 PM

Kick ass movie. Too bad the remake is going to use Matrix style kungfu bullshit. I say go out and give them Uzi's just like the real gangs. Hopefully it doesnt start doing a Boys in the Hood type of shit either

Fuck! What are they thinking! The whole Matrix style kung-fu shit is so dead! Everytime I see that technique used I cringe  I can't beleive there going to ruin a classic like this by turning it into cliched garbage!

Elvis_Christ 04-27-2005 08:24 PM

.........STILL THE BEST MOVIE EVER.......

Hehh lame attempt to keep this thread alive :)

Go The Warriors!!!
Yeh!!

What's the word on the remake I haven't heard anything much over here??

urgeok 04-28-2005 05:31 AM

there is no way they can remake this film and keep any of the origional feel .. if they make it current time.

the 'charm' of the origional is that the gangs were goofy, with WWF-like personas.

the only guy with a gun was the little shit at the end ..

now a film about gangs would be all drive by shooting with innocent people getting shot ..

sounds riveting

lol, this movie will make less money then Gilli. You know, that damn J lo movie.

ChEEbA 04-28-2005 04:00 PM

With the remake...I mean, it MAY be JUST allright...but only by cmoparision to the legues of OTHER remakes out there, but who know, it's sill probably gonna be shithouse.

A big part of the original was also the music...you just KNOW they won't get the music right.

Elvis_Christ 04-28-2005 05:10 PM

This remake's gonna make me fucking puke  They should spend some oney restoring the original print and give it a theatrical run so people know the original exists (they could make heaps of money off it if they hype it right - which is the only reason the do anything). A whole generation of kids are gonna be like "Have you seen The Warriors?" "Yeh its that shitty Matrix-style kung-Fu romantic comedy! Its one of the shittiest movies ever made". Oh well nothing I can do but bitch and moan about it on here :D ..... its sure to have my angry fingers cranking!
