That statement alone made we wanna shoot him in the face at point blank range....

Established bands make money from concerts.
downloading mp3s generates interest for the band and make people want to see the concerts.

bands starting out would be tickled pink if people if people downloaded and played their MP3s .. its free advertising - exposure.

the record companies are the ones that lose when mp3s are downloaded .. the guys at the top of the heap.

Most people i know will still but the CD if they really like a band.

I'd like to see the stats because i think MP3s accessability have rejuvinated interest in music the same way that video got people back in the theatre (despite a small lull when it looked like it would kill the theatre going experience and make it obsolete)

i'd love to see what the real losses are ... and not just what is being given to the press.

Music "stealing" is what made metallica famous in the first place. I think that's the only reason they got into the mainstream, I'm sure a lot of people disagree with me though.

I used to have a cassette copy of the "No Life 'Till Leather" demo, I didn't get banned from Napster for that though...

Yeah but that was his excuse, he's another sorry ass loser that I don't see why people made such a big fuss over...Sure Nirvana had a few good songs, but most of their stuff sucked about as much as Courtney Love does for a Vicodin fix.

I know about drug addictions and have had my fair share of them and I ain't talking about reefer either...

I also got over mine without succombing to blowing my head off...

Drugs may have had a part of him killing himself but most of it was his own internal weakness.

I got hooked on Morphine pills after having a bunch of kidney stones and it is pretty much the same thing as heroin. It was extremely fucking hard to kick to, only difference between heroin and morphine is that morphine is legal with a prescription. Still didn't wanna make me commit suicide though.

I have no problem with file sharing. I think it totally generates interest in music. And, yeah, alot of people will probably buy the cd if they like it enough. So ESPECIALLY for up-and-coming acts, its a very good thing.
The only thing I had problems with was that Napster guy making tons and tons of dough off other people's music and not paying royalties.
If it was just an altruistic venture whereby he set up a system that allows people to share music then no prob but that wasn't the case. This dude got filthy stinking rich and didn't wanna pony up.

Because the album had shorter songs with less complicated structures and then was put on the radio. I think it was put out in '91, so that was way before internet bootlegging anyway.

I disagree with file sharing. For a number of reasons.

but its alright with me. Because no one is stealing music from the good bands.

I have no clue what this thread is about.

most of the music i download is to get otherwise impossible to have stuff, and to sample things i have no idea about.

I use the newsgroups .. i've never used any file sharing program.

I'll just go into a certain area, like 89's, 90's or general and download anything that looks interesting or rare.

If I like something I'll track down more CDs by the same band.

I've found a lot of gems this way.

besides that i have 1000's of vinyl, tape, and CD origionals - I've probably supported the music industry more than anyone else i know.
