Is it just me, or was this just a really odd question? Not your normal "What movie is this scene from" thread. I think someone had a bet with someone.

saphinia 03-10-2005 03:23 AM

oh its not a bet!!i can guarantee i would have won if it was a bet though!!! its for a presentation i have to do thats been looming over my head for nearly three years, which just has to be done now!!primarily because i wnat to go to university, which i can't do without this qualification. but i suppose i should have a made a bet with someone, and earned myself some money as well!!

Aha, another person bringing Zombiedom into the lofty world of academia...a noble effort to be sure.

Perhaps you would like to see this great site...these two gals seem to be of a like-minded persuasion...somewhere in their site there are details of a major analytical presentation these two did on Zombies in movies.

saphinia 03-10-2005 02:17 PM

thanks for that!!!seems to be most useful!!!

filmmaker2 03-10-2005 07:00 PM

Ah, here's the page I was looking for:

http://www.theyrecoming.com/extras/lecture/

It was in their blog listings: Their Zombie Lecture. Enjoy.

Not exactly certain but my guess would be Hammer's PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES which was set around an old tin mine in Cornwall,
England.

HARRY COOPER. We'll see who's right. We'll see...when they come begging me to let them in down here...

HELEN COOPER. That's important, isn't it?

HARRY COOPER. What?

HELEN COOPER. To be right--everyone else to be wrong.

HARRY COOPER. What's that supposed to mean??

No, I'm just kidding. I'm kidding!

I know the first American zombie film was White Zombie with Bela Lugosi. In fact, I think it's the first motion picture featuring the zomibie archetype as we know and love.

lee challenger 03-14-2005 03:12 AM

The Ghoul was made quite a few years after Plague Of The Zombies and I wouldn't class it as a zombie film either.

filmmaker2 03-14-2005 06:12 AM

I think Zwoti was talking about the Karloff "Ghoul" from the early 30's, though.

i believe 1934 to be precise......it is also supposedly the very first british horror film (not sure about that though)

saphinia 03-14-2005 07:19 AM

its not quite the first british horror film, that would be faust and mephistopheles from 1898. but it pretty much is the first zombie film as i couldn't find any others!!!when i say first i mean first british zombie film. the next zombie film is "the earth dies screaming" from 1964, more of a sci fi film really but it does include zombies, therefore including horror!!

ClassicHorror 03-17-2005 04:11 AM

Love classic zombies, The Ghoul is not a zombie film.

Two zombie films needed to be seen by any zombie fan:

White Zombie
Revolt of The Zombies

Revolt isn't that great, in matter of fact its a sleeper, but its history so its a must.
Its a must because it has a different type of zombie, the realistic type....
