My Momma Told Me...
Okay...We do this all the time...We tell people, "My mother always said..."...Or something similar to that.....So...I'm wondering...What is the ONE thing that your mother told you that meant the most to you, that you actually remembered, adhered to, paid attention to, considered, actually even utilized, and/or passed along to someone else?
My mother always told me..."Be yourself, no matter what...It doesn't matter what other people think...It only matters what you think about yourself..." Of course NOW...Whenever I go anywhere with her (which is a VERY rare occurance)...She always says..."Will you please dress 'normal' today?" So here's another question...Did she actually PRACTICE what she preached??? |
the onlyadvice i can remember
is dont scrape your teeth on your fork when you're eating. the rest was all some selfserving bullshit. |
My momma told me you better shop around:D ...ok seriously...
my mom always told me to be myself and if someone didn't like it then it was their problem. |
When I was about 11, my mother bought me a picture of a group of wildhorses running across the plains, all the horses were black except for one white one.
The caption said-"Some of us weren't cut out to run with the crowd." Words to live by. Last thing my bastard father said to me before he died, "Son don't! That gun is loaded!" |
I'm not sure my momma ever told me anything much....gonna haveta think..hmmm..*thinks*
|
now that I think about it it was usually my dad who did most of the ''things to live by'' quotes and my mom mostly delt with my sister.
|
My mum warned me about men. She said, "They'll tell you anything."

"Don't forget your house keys"

Don't let anyone take advantage of you. You'll end up a bitter old woman who doesn't trust anyone.

my mom told me to keep my finger outta there
m-my mo- my mo-my momma said little girls is the devil |
My mother said, in short:
"Don't be like me..." So...I stopped wearing her panties... But seriously, she was referring to my poor attitude towards study, and a few other issues at the time, I would've been around sixteen maybe? So...that didn't work, but it might for some people, who knows. 24 now, and I've only just decided what I'm going to do with my life...aint proud of the time wasted, but in time I realised something, after passing or dropping out of on course of study or abnother that I'd lost interest in, and a few jobs that I hated SO much that deliberately fucking around in the hope of getting fired was pretty much what I'd try to do on a day-to-day basis ...I came to the realisation of that which is probably what ALL parents should tell their kids: Go with what makes you happy, something you have a GENUINE interest in. - which I GUESS could've been part of what the old woman was trying to drop on me....maybe. So I decided to step up to my new existance a half a year early, I'm gonna be doing this chef gig from June onwards. My father...hmmm... Nope. Nothing I can recall. |
I don't really pass this on or anything, its just something she says to me everytime I talk to her..
"Marry a rich man so you can go to school and never work" I *THINK* she wants me to be happy..? |
When my mother found out I was Wiccan, she looked at me and said, "Why couldn't you just be Jewish?"
|

The only thing I can think of is "never be afraid to ask for help".
She meant never be afraid to ask HER for help, but I kinda broadened it. |

"dont let anyone step on you when they try and step on you you STOMP it right away!"
sounds better than it is written, with the accent and all "do not talk to that boy, he is peanut head!" |

no my moms the nicest lady ever but really bad at giving advice |
if i ever complained about washing dishes, my mother would say,
"Thank God for dirty dishes, they have a tale to tell. While others may go hungry, we're eating very well." |
Okay, I've actually been thinking all day and I can't think of a damn thing she has told me to better me. But, she has led by example of what not to do. Unlike some kids, I wanted to be the least like her as possible. When she was my age, she had a 5 year old me, a 9 year old "stepson", an alcoholic boyfriend, worked full time at BK, and lived in her grandparents basement. When I was 10 she left her boyfriend, (my daddy) who she had been with since the ripe ol age of 13 to do it all by herself..not too much of a change considering my dad never hadda job or anything..But when she left him it caused him to go nuts, not pay any attention to my brother and I, which in turn I think is the reason why my brother has been in prison since he was 16, he is now 26. When I was about 11 or 12 I guess, she started doing some real fucked up shit, kinda trying to relive the childhood she lost I guess. She lost her job where she was making excellent money due to her "partying",Oh and of course having an affair with the DM didn't help any. I was alone all of the time, never saw or talked to the woman. When she was 35 she married a 22 year old she barely knew, who now keeps leaving her and coming back, and cheats constantly. They're supposed to be getting a divorce..the only good thing (great thing) that has come of this is my 5 year old baby brother. Her husband has caused her to go morbidly depressed, and now she's almost worse than she ever was.
So after seeing all of this, now I am almost 22, live on my own, make my own money, have had a steady job for 6 years, a car..ya know all the basic..no kids either. Yeah, I ain't doing great, but I'm a lot better person because of seeing the things she has done. I knew I never wanted to be like that. So yeah, I gotta love her for making me a better person by all of this. She has indirectly told me what to do(or not to do) with my life. |
