U2 vertigo tour
san dieago was great just got back home.
U2 IN SAN DIEGO After waiting outside the venue accompanied by an array of U2 fans from literally all over the world including Brazil, Germany, Japan, Africa, Canada and all over the US, the four year wait was 100% worth it. The openers Kings of Leon sucked. The music composition itself wasn't band however, it was the lead singer's annoying vocals that turned me off. The best way to describe their sound would be "alternative country." I tried my best to like them considering that I'm going to have to see them four more times on the Vertigo tour. U2 opened with City of Blinding Lights , an unlikely opener off U2's latest album "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb." During the opening track the audience was showered with red, silver, and white confetti, similar color scheme from the latest album. Forgiveness is given to the band for the slight technical difficulties since it was the opening night of the Vertigo tour. As Bono said half way through the show, "I apologize for the screw up but were amongst friends here." Bono's vocals were noticeably off key at some parts and he struggled with some of the notes. The Edge covered Bono more so than on previous tours with the vocals. However, the energy was definitely there as the audience sang along. I was surprised that U2 dug out some gems from "Boy", their first album. It was good to not hear the overplayed I Will Follow and hear The Electric Company and An Cat Dubh in replacement. The overall set list was not as varied as on the Elevation tour between the new and the classics (singles) but those who appreciate and enjoy the new album and some of U2's older albums will definitely enjoy the show. The setlist was catered to the U2 fan more so than the commercial casual mainstream listener. The stage setting was just amazing. It ran along the similar theme of Elevation of the segregated section on the floor. This time instead of a heart, it was appropriately shaped as a target. Whether you were in the target or just outside, the view on the floor was spectacular and Bono was not shy when it came to working the crowd. The stage was also adored with multiple bead curtain-like (backdrop) video screens. There were some personal moments for me during the show, one of which is obvious to most of you reading this who are close to me. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own made me cry literally. During the song I stood there with my eyes closed and told myself, "What makes me so special to be here when other U2 fans were trying so hard to be here?" U2 fans are the sweetest 'cause some were having emotional moments of there own and we just stared at each other and lip synced the lyrics to each other. Setlist: City of Blinding Lights Vertigo Cry - The Electric Co. An Cat Dubh / Into the Heart Beautiful Day New Year's Day Miracle Drug Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own Love and Peace or Else Sunday Bloody Sunday Bullet the Blue Sky / Hands That Built America Running to Stand Still Zoo Station The Fly Elevation Encore(s): Pride Where the Streets Have No Name One All Because Of You Yahweh 40 all in all it blew my mind like they do in every show I see of theres if anyone has a chance see them. |
*gag*I can't stand U2, Vertigo is such a bad song.
|
I know I've said this before, but
Fuck Bono. FUCK THAT ASSHOLE. |
besides his political stuff he is a great singer and preformer. sometimes I think artists and politics should not mix.

Music and Politic's go together like Peanut butter and jelly. Music is the sound of freedom, protest, and life. Does Bono suck? well.... he does get on my nerves but he is smart and has good will. I think Kings of Leon sucks huge ass. My band likes them..... what the fuck! they are so horrible. His voice is crap |

I guess its garage rock... I don't know.. People say they're band "Doesn't sound like anything".... they're liars.
We honestly don't sound like anyone else. www.myspace.com/sedatedreplica it will only work if you have DSL |
You guys sound pretty good.
You seem pretty rooted in British rock. But DUDE! You gotta turn that delay up and crank the drive up to 10!!! That's the only way to play.:D Your singer's perfect for it. He seems like he'd have a good screamo voice. |
U2 should have retired years ago.
|
Quote:
You're totally right, that song needs more rock and less crappiness. it was recorded 3 years ago. when I was 17... I hope we don't sound British rock... I am all about american music :D |
the very first couple of U2 albums were good - a bit dated now but still good..
then i didnt like anything but Pop (not a popular album to like but i still kind of dug it. I wouldnt bother even checking out the new album... i've lost interest. If Bono wants to do the humanitarian thing thats fine with me ..whatever his motives might be it's still possibly helping people. So I dont have any reason to hate the man or his band... i'm pretty much indifferent |
Quote:
Fuck British rock. Jet..... LAME:D |
Quote:
you might like how to dismantle..... it is humble and the lyrics are pretty good I think. I don't think they should retire yet. they still have a few years left in them although bono is slipping on the notes but the notes he hits are damn near impossible to hit anyway. but anyway. |
Music is very subjective, so I would never ridicule someone's particular taste. That being said......"POP"......ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME.
Only funning wit ya. I've been to three U2 concerts, the last one was a month after 9/11. It was a very moving experiance and a lot of the songs took on a whole new meaning. As far as Bono goes, I don't pay much attention to musicians politics. If they want to try to win the Noble Peace Prize....so be it. It nice to see someone with fame and fortune doing something positive. The first albums were indeed some of their best, October and Boy are still very listenable. They lost track a bit after Achtung Baby, but came back pretty strong with All You Can't Leave Behind. The new one is not as good IMO. |

U2 has always sucked, and even when they pull a halfway decent song out of their asses, they're still so terribly annoying that the effect is lost on me. Bono's politics and humanitarian work are the only good things that have ever come out of him. Both bands mentioned in the topic fucking suck. Screamo sucks, as well as whatever other derivatives of emo have been created. How To Dismantle has "pretty good" lyrics, you say, Mr. Raplh? Uno, dos, tres, catorce! Turn it up loud, captain! Lights go down It's dark The jungle is your head Can't rule your heart I'm feeling so much stronger Than I thought Your eyes are wide And though your soul it can't be bought your mind can wander Hello, Hello Hola! I'm at a place called vertigo [Where are you?] It's everything I wish I didn't know Except you give me something I can feel Feel The night is full of holes Those bullets rip the sky Of ink with gold They twinkle as the boys play rock and roll They know that they can't dance At least they know I can't stand the beat I'm askin' for the cheque Girl with crimson nails Has Jesus 'round the neck Swinging to the music Swinging to the music Woooao Hello, Hello Hola! I'm at a place called Vertigo[Where are you?] It's everything I wish I didn't know But you give me something I can feel Feel All this, all this can be yours All of this, all of this can be yours All this, all of this can be yours Just give me what I want And no one gets hurt Hello, Hello Hola! I'm at a place called Vertigo Lights go down and all I know Is that you give me something I can feel You're teaching me ...aaahhh Your love is teaching me ...aaaah How to kneel Kneel Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah... Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah! ... Brilliance. |
Well, the lyrics are better than say... "Cesaro Summability" by Tool. Eh? Eh?

I like a large variety of music, almost any major genre, but my favorite bands all usually fall into metal category.
Danzig tops the list right now. |
Quote:
Don't you think Danzigs lyric's are all very... similar? I mean, those U2 lyric's aren't perfect. but I think U2 has more variety than Danzig.. Don't get me wrong. I think Danzig is great but he's a douche bag as a person. |
I saw them on their last tour and I would not see them again simply because I don't like their new album so much. I'm glad I got to see them when I did.. AMAZING AMAZING.. goosebumps the whole damn time.

Does Danzig's formula work? yeah, he stole it from the ramones (the misfits). |
For the record, Danzig does not sound at all like the Misfits did, and even bringing up the idea of someone stealing from the Ramones is ludicrous. Nearly every decent band today has taken something from the Ramones.
As far as there being much worse music, I agree. There are also much worse movies than The Grudge, that doesn't mean it isn't a heaping pile of shit. |
Well.. I think the Misfits were better than his solo work.
More punk, less metal. |
But the Misfits and whether or not you prefer them are not the issue at hand.
|
Quote:
You gave me your two cents about how U2 sucks. even if they have more variety than danzig's boring formula. "Blood, Death, Hell, ooo I'm evil". lame gimmicks |
Quote:
the Grudge isnt a heaping pile of shit though .... |
it is all matter of opinion. I personally think danzid and misfits are crap. misfits do have a respectful era. but I'll put danzig up there with nelson, and warrant.
spy couch, read the whole album first. don't just go by vertigo. that song was ment to be simple. |

Fuck U2 |
YEAH! FUCK U2! PUSSY ROCK!
METAL RULEZ! WOOO! I'm going to go listen too my metallica c.d.... not when they sold out.. they're good stuff  |
I hate U2 as a whole, it expands far past Vertigo. My only point with the Vertigo lyrics was to prove that they, and the majority of U2 lyrics otherwise, are complete shit.
Also, the hate for U2 has nothing to do with them being pussies. You're talking to someone who owns country and pop albums. I just don't like them, because they're such a fucking annoyance for the mediocre music they make. |

I hate metal music too, but there's people here who like it. I'm not gonna bash them for it. |
i was listening to 'It's a Beautiful Day' in the car today .. thats not a bad song at all ..

Its called a "disscussion". There was no name calling going on. just idea's and disscussion. |
Saying metal sucks is pretty close minded.... you can't just hate an entire genre of music. That's a pretty ignorant thing to say. Why shut yourself off like that..... all genres of music have merit.
|
but the thing is, that like death metal sounds all the same and you can't understand what there saying. I don't understand the music value of metal.
