Oscar Predictions

So with the nomination forms sent out, who/what do you thnk will be up for Oscars this year?

Ive yet to see most of the films generating buzz, but Ill be surprised if Crash doesnt get at least nominated for best picture, plus at least 1 acting award [Dillon or Cheadle, most likely]

EDIT- Typos

Slipknot 666 01-03-2006 09:24 AM

i agree

The STE 01-03-2006 09:26 AM

If there's any justice, Good Night, and Good Luck and Crash will get every nomination possible

The_Return 01-03-2006 09:29 AM

Do you know if Good Night, and Good Luck be on DVD anytime soon? It looks very good, but it didnt/isnt playing anywhere around here.

You can always hold your breath and go to E! online... I dunno what kind of disease you're gonna have when you're done though.

No love for Crash, Austin?

newb 01-03-2006 10:46 AM

I haven't seen anything at the theatres worthy of Oscar [ i don't get to the picture films much ] but i would like to see Philip Seymore Hoffman get best actor for Capote. Only because he has always been a favorite of mine and he did get some great reviews for this film.

That's just my predictions not what I'd nominate.

If it were my nominees... Phillip Seymour Hoffman,Christopher Nolan,Crash ect. ect. would all be represented.

I think Dillon will have a supporting nod but that's probably about it.

Same here, He's one of my favorite actors too.

AUSTIN316426808 01-03-2006 11:25 AM

I'd rather see a powerful, well made film than a remake that did no more or less than the original.

You didn't think Phoenix did just as good as job as Foxx?

Kong will get nominations in art direction and MAYBE director, also maybe a few of the technical and set categories.

(Just opinions,not arguing)

AUSTIN316426808 01-03-2006 12:10 PM

When I said no more or less than the original I meant how good the movie was not money, I can't stand when a movie is measured by the money it made.

AUSTIN316426808 01-03-2006 12:29 PM

It Happened One Night sweep the oscars Kong's year, it wasn't even nominated for anything.

Didn't take anything wrong.

The_Return 01-03-2006 01:11 PM

It probably/definatly wont be up for any of the major awards, but Sin City will likely get at least a nom. for Visual Effects.

slasherman 01-03-2006 02:21 PM

..oscar movies usually suck....:D

Not a fan of Silence of the Lambs? As I recall, you voted for it in my tournament:p

AUSTIN316426808 01-03-2006 02:29 PM

I disagree, I usually like at least 3 out of the 5 major nominees and when acting nods are giving to films not nominated I check them out and more often than not enjoy 'em.

The_Return 01-03-2006 02:33 PM

I usually dont see many nominees until long after the awards have been given out; I rarely see movies while they're still in theatres.

Dear God, I hope it does. It deserves SOMETHING. It was creative, artsy, unique...it needs some recognition.

The STE 01-03-2006 03:05 PM

Rodriguez pissed off the Director's Guild in the process of making it, it was an ensemble picture so no acting noms, and comic book movies only ever get technical awards anyways (usually for Sound Editing or something) and Kong is probably gonna sweep those anyways. I thought it was the best movie this year and I'd love it if it swept the Oscars, but it won't. But Crash and GNGL would be a hell of a consolation

I'll even take this a step further and perdict winners in all the main categories as well as nominations. As much as I'd like to see Sin City clean up, I think it's gonna be the gay cowboy movie that wins big this year. I don't see Sin City getting nominated for anything major at all, and only marginally for a handful of the smaller tech categories.

I can see that happening.

The STE 01-04-2006 11:51 AM

I might could see Howl's Moving Castle getting a nod, but a) I don't know the Academy's protocol on when something is released in relation to being eligable, and b) I don't see 2 foreign animated movies being nominated in the same year, and W&G has a better chance

AUSTIN316426808 01-06-2006 08:21 AM

Jon Stewart is hosting.

Which is pretty awesome. I've always liked him.

Chris Rock and now Jon Stewart. Gee, I wonder which generation they are trying to lure in with hosts like that.

-Replaced Cinderella Man with Munich(completely slipped my mind even though I had Speilberg on the director list)

-Added Woody Allen to the director list since I only had 4.

-Replaced Steve Martin and George Clooney with Heath Ledger and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.(Thought Steve Martin in Shop Girl had the whole Bill Murray-Lost in Translation thing going but I guess not. Just the opposite with Hoffman, thought he'd go under the radar again but he's finally getting the reconition he deserves, which is cool.)

-Left actress alone.

The STE 01-20-2006 05:49 PM

for best animated short: The Meaning of Life. Having seen both Rejected, and the short that beat it, I totally believe that Don Hertzfeldt got ROBBED, and since I've heard fantastic things about TMoL, I'm pretty confident that it'll at least get nominated

newb 01-20-2006 06:05 PM

They say the Golden Globes are a good prediction of whom may win.Looks like a horse race between Brokeback Mountain & Walk the Line.

anybody notice Drew's bra-less dress.....she's kinda young to be sagging like that........just an observation.

best animated short, there was no animated feature back then (Shrek was the first to win that particular award)

Despare 01-21-2006 08:40 PM

I know it won't get ANY nods but I think History of Violence deserved SOME attention.
