Best Hammer film
In your opinion what is the best hammer film.
|
I can't answer that with one answer. I thought their Dracula films were their best stuff. "Horror of Dracula" I thought delivered the nicest basic product in terms of pacing, look, and atmosphere. "Dracula Has Risen from the Grave" I thought had the most interesting story. Can't pick just one! Gotta have at least two.
|
Okay. I gotta add "The Abominable Snowman" to this discussion. That's an awesome movie. Well written, well acted, a lot of fun...serious fun, if you will.

Curse of The Werewolf The Brides of Dracula .....there's simply way too many to narrow it down to one. |
Ive actually seen painfully few Hammer films...
Out of what Ive seen, my favourite has to be Hound of the Baskervilles. Cushing was born to play Holmes. |
It is absolutely impossible to pick just one! They're all great.
|
Their horror films are as endearing and cherished as the Universal monster movies. Both studios were really good at making classy horror flicks.
|
not forgetting the sci-fi output
professor bernard quatermass....what a guy  |
Nigel Kneale wrote some awesome stuff.
|
what about kiss of the vampire?
|
Fun piece of vampire silliness with a hella-cool ending.

Horror Of Dracula-greatest vampire movie ever
|
It is pretty darn good!
|
INGRID PITT I totally forgot about her in vampire lovers and I think twins of evil. You know what would have been cool is to see her and lee go up aganist cushing in classic dracula style.
|
The Reptile was also a good film.
|
CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF

is hammer films still around they need a revival
|
Dracula - Prince of Darkness is my favorite I think. I know it's not the faster paced of the dracula film's but it's one I remember watching alot from my childhood on AMC. Plus, I just love the atmosphere and the scene where they bring Drac back. I watched it the other day - brought back fond memories of when AMC wasn't a worthless shit channel.

I've always love "The Mummy" The bog set design was the most beautifuly bizarre and highly tactile environment in a horror flick this side of Eraserhead.
The way the mud and goo clung to the bandages. Brilliant. |

Most of the Frankenstein efforts weren't especially cool, but Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell is a good one. I'm with everyone on Horror of Dracula, but hold the probably controversial opinion that Satanic Rites of Dracula was incredible. It's nice how it doesn't take itself quite as seriously as many other Hammer efforts do. The camp level makes it a pretty unique Dracula experience. Though I'd say the only Hammer Dracula that wasn't all that great was Dracula AD 1972.
|
I really like the movie Vampire Circus, but also Curse of the Werewolf because it was the first one I saw.
|
Oh so many but my gut reaction says ............
Horror Of Dracula The Curse Of Frankenstein The Mummy Quatermass And The Pit Twins Of Evil Frankenstein And The Monster From Hell who am I kidding I could go on and on . |
2 Legit to quit - The MC Hammer Story
|
My favourite has to be Quatermass and the pit, but I'm still undecided on whether the Hammer film or the BBC TV serial is the best adaption. Second to that it's probably The creeping flesh.
I also love Twins of evil purely on cotton nightie appreciation. Which reminds me, I still haven't got Twins and it's out on DVD now... |
Got to be ...........
http://xs308.xs.to/xs308/06434/thumbnail.jpg By far the best hammer horror......... |
When I was a child in the 60's (yes, you read that correctly) we had a neighborhood theatre just a few blocks away (ah for the days of neighborhood theatres...). Every weekend I'd take my $1.25 down to the theatre for the weekend matinee. There would always be a double feature along with cartoons, newsreels, serials & prize giveaways.
The theatre owner knew what kids liked and often the double features would be Hammer horrors, or a Corman pair up, or even times a couple weird AIP releases. Getting to see those glorius movies on a big screen was a great education in film. My favorites were the Hammer films Cushing & Lee were dynamite together. As so many have said in this thread already- it's impossible to pick a favorite one. Like Universal & Corman they created their own world. Great movies. Great entertainment. Great memories. |
