Zombie/vampire novel: Roses of Blood on Barbwire Vines

Roses of Blood on Barbwire Vines a vampire / zombie novel by D.L. Snell

About the Book: As zombies invade a barricaded apartment building, the vampire denizens must protect their human livestock. Shade, the vampire monarch, defends her late father's kingdom, but Frost, Shade's general, convinces his brethren to migrate to an island, where they can breed and hunt humans. In their path stands a legion of corpses, just now evolving into something far more lethal, something with tentacles--and that's just the beginning.

Actually, it is an announcement to an audience who might actually be interested. It is also a place for readers to discuss the book, and I, as the author of the novel, am available to answer questions and whatnot. So I demand that you get the term correct: it is interactive spam. Duh. :)

Mr. Z.A. Recht, author of Plague of the Dead, has honored us with an introduction to Roses of Blood on Barbwire Vines. Among other things, he says:

"Reader, you haven't experienced zombies like the ones in this book before. I won't ruin a thing for you, but you're in for a treat. George A. Romero's zombies are cute, cuddly little kittens next to these aberrations. And the vampires? They aren't those cultured, lace-wearing wussies that Anne Rice made famous. These are dark, vicious killers--predators in the truest sense of the word. Take either one of these things and you would have the material you need for a grade-A work of horror fiction. Put them together, and the potential increases exponentially. Snell has exploited every last bit of this potential."

hugonian 01-15-2007 01:02 AM

Check out this awesome blurb by Walt Hicks, publisher at Hellbound Books:

"Welcome to D. L. Snell’s bleak, nightmarish world of vampires and zombies, of puppets and puppeteers, of humans and mutants. A bone-jarring, hellish trek into the morbid and bizarre, Snell’s trenchant novel serves up oceans of gore and an unimaginable body count, and yet beneath the ghastly layers, there’s plenty of character development, sharp dialogue and a perceptive view of human—and inhuman—nature. An often brutal—often darkly elegant—page-turning read."

NOTE: Roses of Blood will not be available to preorder until around April, and won’t debut until June; the following ad is intended for the May/June issue of Cemetery Dance, around the time the book comes out--I just wanted to show it off now. Zombies courtesy of cover artist Stephen Blundell.

Part of this blurb will find its way onto the front cover!

Quote:

Roses of Blood on Barbwire Vines by D.L. Snell is a marvelous dark fantasy--filled with ruthless vampires, flesh-eating zombies, and enough action to leave you breathless. Intense, gruesome, funny, and fast-paced--it has all the ingredients needed to satisfy even the most jaded fan of horror fiction.

I just received another blurb:

Quote:

Violent and visceral and yet also unexpectedly beautiful and erotic, Snell’s debut novel is a non-stop tirade of horrific, nightmare images, a startling vision of the remains of the human race trapped between two of the greatest evils ever to scar the face of the planet. With hordes of deadly zombies on one side and an incredibly powerful army of vampires on the other, mankind’s days are numbered.--David Moody, Author of the Autumn series

Hi D.L. nice to meet you.

Hey, thanks for posting! People around here disdain me because I advertise my book, but I say to them, "Spammers don't interact with other board members"--I do. So I’m an interactive spammer.

Do you write or create or anything?

hugonian 04-21-2007 10:58 AM

If you pre-order more than one copy of Roses, you will be entered into the raffle more than once, thus increasing your odds of winning the zombie portrait. For example, if you buy two copies, you will be entered twice; three copies, thrice; and so on and so forth. So if you have friends who may be interested, Roses might make a magnificent gift. Or if you want a copy for your collection and one other to read, dog-ear, and crease--well, you can do that too. After all, isn’t a picture of yourself as a zombie worth it? ;)

The first reviews of Roses of Blood are trickling in! Here’s one from Horror Reader...

Quote:

“[A] rush of high excitement and cinematic ultra violence... [W]ith Roses of Blood on Barbwire Vines, D.L. Snell has crafted a solid entertainment, an action packed flick for the theatre of the mind's eye.”--Daniel Robichaud, Horror Reader
Read the full review.

More forthcoming!

More reviews for Roses of Blood on Barbwire Vines! Here's an excerpt from Nick Cato's write-up, slated to appear in the 17th issue of THE HORROR FICTION REVIEW...

Quote:

"Snell's Roses of Blood is a no-nonsense, cult-film-type of story that sets the adrenaline level on high, then keeps getting higher. Everything disappointed horror fans expected out of the Underworld films happens with gusto here--and then some: gore hounds will be in for a treat, zombie fans will get a charge over the little Cthulhu-like creatures that control the undead, and anyone looking for a non-stop action fest should look no further."
And here's a review and interview from Alex Zawacki at Class-b.net: review, interview.

More to come in the following weeks! And the winner of the zombie portrait raffle should be announced this week or next! Stay tuned...

Everyone who pre-ordered my zombie/vampire novel Roses of Blood on Barbwire Vines was bitten. But the zombie virus could only survive in one lucky individual, which means only one zombie could be produced. Eric J. “feedussnacks” is that individual.

Eric will be zombified by the Roses cover artist, Stephen Blundell. He won the lottery. So welcome, Eric! Congrats!

Oh, and--BRAAAAAAINNNNS!!!

Another great review, this one from Shawn Rutledge at Skullring.org...

Quote:

The characterization is believable, the dialogue is brilliant, and the settings are splendidly stark and vivid. I must warn though that this book is not for the weak of will. There are graphic depictions of sex and violence, and nary a page goes by without at least a mention of the red stuff.... Snell definitely knows his chosen field and his subject quite well, and has a love for the genre that shines through.
