Be-loved Movies You Hate

What are some popular, loved movies that you just do not like or can't get into. I would have to say.....

Candyman
The Howling (Cant get into any werewolf movie)
Hellraiser

All I can think of off the top of my head

Ouch. We're not going to see eye to eye I can tell;) (Werewolf movies are my alltime favorite)

Anyway, down to the brass tacks:

Jaws
Scream
Silence of the Lambs

Those are the three biggest ones horror wise. If you want to talk about any genre, there are tons of them.

Including, but not limited to:
Forrest Gump
E.T.
Jurassic Park
ID4

Despare 11-24-2006 06:42 PM

Blair Witch Project
Forrest Gump
American Beauty

I'm sure there are plenty more but those are the big three off the top of my head.

I agree with you on Jaws. Its drawn out and three quarters of the movie is talking and bores me to sleep. I also did not like Silence Of the Lambs, as well as Hannibal and Red Dragon. But Scream, ahhh thats one of my favorite movies, but hey everyone has there own taste. The movies I really hate are Vampire movies but I know there are some die hard vampire fans so I better shut it.

Despare 11-24-2006 07:16 PM

One mentioned in Shady's other thread is Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, I couldn't get into that one at all.

No love for the WiFi Kung-Fu, or did it just strike a wrong chord with you?

Just the wrong movie for me, I couldn't really get into it. Kung Fu Hustle on the other hand was brilliant...

I agree. I love the over-the-top style fantasy Kung-Fu, be it comedy or serious. Love Hero & House of Flying Daggers. Have yet to see Shaolin Soccer, but I really want to.

Despare 11-24-2006 07:36 PM

Didn'd like Shaolin Soccer but I did like Hero and House of Flyring daggers, I think I'd give Hero the edge there but I'd have to watch them again to make sure.

Oh yeah, didn't like Lost in Translation either.

urgeok 11-24-2006 08:46 PM

horror :

Suspiria
From Beyond
final destination (i didnt like the 1st one at all)

non horror ...

rain man (fuck i hate this movie)
titanic
too many to mention really

Elvis_Christ 11-24-2006 09:36 PM

From Beyond is dope. Definatley give it another shot if you can be fucked.

I hate Army of Darkness, Shaun of the Dead, Bad Taste (even tho I own copies :o ....kinda retared but whatever) and a bunch of other shit I'm forgetting. The Matrix was a flick that I never really got into. Total hamfisted butchery of Mr Gibson's ideas.... fuck read any of his books and the Matrix series crumbles. Gimme the original Terminator or Robocop anyday.

People who like Titanic (haha Pr3ssur3 must be looking foward to the anual xmas screening for some warm and fuzzy action :D ) or Undead suck.

I hate heaps of shit and the list could go on and on.

slayer666 11-25-2006 02:21 AM

After Dark
Hostel
Wickerman
Night of the Demons

roshiq 11-25-2006 03:06 AM

Draculla
Hostel
High Tension
Hellraiser

PR3SSUR3 11-25-2006 06:18 AM

I disagree with all these:-

Suspiria (classy)
From Beyond (nice body horror)
Final Destination (original)
Dracula (which version?)
Hostel (genuinely nasty)
High Tension (super gore, polished and great twist)
Hellraiser (British and adult)
BWP (simply brilliant)
Silence of the Lambs (big, emotive and very well acted)
Jaws (awesome testament to the great white shark, and true horror)

and would add I can't abide anything with Jackie Chan in it, or any modern 'hidden wires', flying about kung fu shit. It's been done to death, and they're mostly terribly superficial.

I think shaun of the dead is one of the most stupidest movies ever..

Good thing this isn't the "argue with people about their taste" thread. Oh, and since when is "British" and argument for a quality movie? ;)

For me a big one that people always tell me I'm wrong about is Jackass 1 & 2. Everytime I tell people I hated those I get the obligatory "it's the funniest movie ever" responses.

You should check out some of the Shaw Brothers classics...the 5 Deadly Venoms, the Kid with Golden Arm...thos emovies totally rock.
Horror:
Hostel-hated it, so many love it, I just cannot stand it
Wolf Creek-I think the way it was packaged as true events really ruined this one for me...not scary at all-well the stupidity level of some of the victims was scary
Mainstream:
Titanic----lord help me

I say Hellraiser is a rare film which is British, very good and successful, and these things together make it stand out from the crowd. The Descent by comparison is only British and (fairly) successful.

The come-on of the thread is to argue (against the masses) that a film thought good, is not.

:)

I've seen 5 Deadly Venoms and loved it. I'll definately get The Kid With the Golden Arm and check it out.

i saw the thread as asking - what movies you should like - most of your peers do - - but for some reason you cant.

i've only heard one other person say they dont like The Beyond .. ever ..

i know it must have some merit - i just struggle with it :)

Reading your posts make my eyes physically hurt, congrats.

Speaking of 5 Deadly Venoms, I LOVED it but haven't seen the sequel, how is it?

Another overrated movie IN MY OPINION, let's see, Million Dollar Baby.

PR3SSUR3 11-25-2006 03:13 PM

I love the Jackass films, and TV show.

It seems those who dig it are genuinely impressed by the team's health-risking stunts (some of which are very funny), and those who don't see it as plain stupid, dangerous and pointless. But we laugh with them, not at them - I think the Jackass team have an infectious sense of fun, unlike others such as Dirty Sanchez who are just gross-out and quite disgusting.

Steve-O being graphically shit on while asleep in his PCP Saved My Life is outrageously, sniggeringly funny, not disgusting.

Threads like this always end up as attack/defence discussions.

:p

they shouldnt though ..

sometimes i'm puzzled when people dont like something i thought impossible not to like, and vise versa - but then all i have to do is remember that there are things i hate most other people love ..

no rights or wrongs to get your backs up about ..

unless you tell me you dont like The Grudge .. then you're fucked !! :D

Seems to me like the come-on of this thread was to simply list movies that are acclaimed by critics or fellow movie lovers that you simply didn't like. Nothing to defend, just a taste issue. Why turn it into a fight? I'm glad you love movies other people hate and I'm happy for you because you seem to be able to reach into movies and pull some nugget of joy from many of them but I'm not going to argue my choices because this isn't the thread for it. Make a movie debate thread if you want to argue, otherwise simply list some movies most people liked that you didn't.

PR3SSUR3 11-25-2006 06:45 PM

I do not see any fighting, however I do see some lists of films without any explanation as to why they fail a particular person.

Since this doesn't seem to have much point other than typing in titles of movies, I think putting forward valid reasons to the contrary is OK. Who knows, perhaps then a retort might start to give some insight into what could be wrong with that particular film from a different point of view?

The Flayed One 11-25-2006 07:25 PM

To tell you the truth, I probably shouldn't have posted those in this thread after reconsidering the title. I don't HATE any of the three movies. I just think they're terribly overrated.

Popsicle Cannibal 11-25-2006 08:05 PM

I fucking hate Crash. Fuck that stupid pretentious peice of shit in its ear.

Now yer talkin'.

But Crash as in car-wreck sex, or the more recent oscar winner?

Cronenberg's film was a bit overhyped for what it was, but in Britain at least, we had the tabloid hysteria to blame for that.

newb 11-25-2006 08:35 PM

Not big on The Beyond. But I do like Suspiria....very atmospheric.

Jaws was/is great movie making.

Not to keen on the Scream movies.

Leprechaun movies sucked......no explanation....they just sucked.

Never saw Titanic.....although I did manage to catch the boob shot.....very nice....High Five

1st and 4th Friday the Thirteen were good....the rest bored me.

I meant the unworthy oscar winner. Cronenburg is a a very talented director IMO. Hype couldn't ruin that one for me because of me being born in 1990 and all.

Dog Soldiers
Braveheart
toxic avenger/s
halloween sequels...
reservoir dogs
hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.

No, I won't be giving reasons, as they're only my own, not expected for anyone to understand, or share.

I know what you're saying but there doesn't have to be anything wrong with the film other than that person doesn't like it. There's no need for a retort because it could be a beautiful created movie, one of the best ever, and one person just doesn't like it. Maybe a movie that everybody loved just didn't touch with one person for some reason. In fact, maybe it has less to do with the movie and more to do with the viewer. Like the Jackass movies. They do exactly what they're supposed to and far outshine their original film attempts (CKY, CKY2K, etc...) but I just can't like those movies. I even like some parts of those films but for the most part, they don't do it for me.

PR3SSUR3 11-26-2006 07:23 AM

Fair enough, but making statements without backing them up with anything other than I Don't Like It makes them easy to ignore.

Hit ebay and put in Shaw Brothers DVD...I have about twenty of theirs, all are good, but the ones that have the same central group that was in the 5 Deadly Venoms are the best.
Here's their 8 best:
5 Deadly Venoms
Return of the 5 Deadly Venoms
Invincible Shaolin
Kid with the Golden Arm
10 Tigers from Kwangtung
2 Champions of Shaolin
Masked Avengers
Shaolin Rescuers
All of these have the same group who became known as the "Venoms" after the success of the 5 Deadly Venoms.
