:D What one did you like? To me, they really are possibly the worst horror films of the year, but I liked Saw 3 for the gore, and FD3 for the ... gore. |
In no particular order, with the exception of #1.
1. The Descent -- It is hands down the best horror movie of the year. I know it was released in a lot of places in 2005, but 2006 was the wide-release for the U.S. (which is where I am). 2. The Hills Have Eyes 3. Hostel 4. Silent Hill 5. TCM -- The Beginning 6. Slither -- If we can put horror/comedy on the list. |

I enjoyed Hostel, I'm sick like that...The guy escaping and getting some revenge is just great. It's great when it happens in The Hills Have Eyes too. |
Cant be bothered to do a top 10, but Silent Hill is easily #1. Saw III was damn good too, but not on par with Silent Hill.
Wicker Man remake was utter shit. |
I thought Silent Hill would be terrible? I might give it a hire.

not a fan of the others. |
2006 was a pretty lame year of horror from what I've seen thus far. There's still a few that look good that I haven't seen yet so all hope is not lost, but so far I've been disappointed.
Have not seen yet Black Christmas (Remake) - Havent seen yet, loved the original. Black Dahlia - Havent seen yet, but I'm a big Josh Hartnett supporter (Go Minnesota!) Night Watch 2 - Havent seen yet, but the 1st one was pretty rad. Grudge 2 - Havent seen yet. I HATED the first one so I've been putting it off. The Omen (Remake) - I never even really liked the original so I was in no hurry to see this. I'll get around to it eventually. Saw 3- I missed it in theatres, but I've got it lined up at the top of my Netflix queue for when it comes out on DVD in a few weeks. Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning -Havent seen yet. I made plans to go see it twice and they fell through both times. Now it's lined up with Saw 3 at the top of my Netflix list. Turistas - I heard it hyped, then it released and I never heard another word about it. Anyone seen it? The Wicker Man (Remake) - I'll rent it but being that I wasn't a very big fan of the original, I haven't been in any rush. The Woods - This is in my Netflix lineup too. I'm expecting it to be great. have seen Final Destination 3 - It was alright, but nothing groundbreaking or original. Some bad CGI in the opening disaster brought it down as well. Hills Have Eyes (Remake) - This was pretty good. I liked the abundance of gore, but Aja really didn't do anything new with the film and stuck prettymuch to the script of the original as far as I could tell. Rest Stop - I saw this on Sci-Fi before I ever knew it existed or saw in the video stores. I'm still not 100% sure the movie I saw on Sci-Fi was the same film as this though. If it is, then it was decent but not great. Scary Movie 4 - This was actually better than parts 2 or 3 in my opinion. They ditched the unfunny Wayans brothers and ended up with a pretty funny film. See No Evil - This was pretty cool. Straightforward, violent and non-comedic. The Descent - I thought this was too dimly lit & somewhat over-rated. It wasn't bad, but I just didn't think it was great as it was made out to be. Silent Hill - I never played the game before so I found this movie to be somewhat confusing. It was good until the ending, then I was just like "What the fuck is going on here?" I still haven't figured it out. Slither - This was pretty decent. Not at all what I expected, but pretty entertaining nonetheless. Snakes on a Plane - I was somewhat disappointed by this one. Stay Alive - Better than I was expecting from a PG-13 horror movie starring Malcolm (in the Middle). I was actually entertained by it. When a Stranger Calls - Just like the original, this movie was fuckin' lame. Underworld: Evolution - I liked the 1st one more, but this was a pretty cool follow up. So just based on the films I've seen, here's my top 10. (I'm sure after I see a few of the ones I haven't seen yet, my list will shift.) 1- Hills Have Eyes (Remake) 2- See No Evil 3- Underworld: Evolution 4- The Descent 5- Slither 6- Scary Movie 4 7- Silent Hill 8- Final Destination 3 9- Snakes on a Plane 10- Stay Alive Like I said though, that is very prone to change. After I see them, I fully expect Saw 3, TCM, The Woods and maybe even Black Christmas & Turistas to make it on to the list somewhere. |
My Top 5
TCM: The Beginning The Descent Saw III The Hills Have Eyes When a Stranger Calls I haven't seen some of the movies you guys have mentioned. Going to see Black Christmas on Wednesday. I kept putting it off because of all the terrible reviews I've seen for weeks, but since it pretty much bombed, it will probably be out of the theatre here this Friday, so its my last chance. |

I guess you need to be in the right frame of mind, but I thought it was great. Wouldnt make it onto a top ten of all time or anything, but easily the best Ive seen this year. |

we pretty much have the exact opposite taste in films |
To be honest, i was surprised to see that 10 horror movies were released this year...
|
I dont think I could even really put together a top ten list with the movie that were released
1. the descent 2. the hills have eyes 3. lady in the water(yeah I know this really isnt horror, and its really wierd, but I personally enjoyed it, and thought it was expertly done) |
one that I think has flown under the radar is Monster House. Yeah, it's for kids and yeah it's motion capture CG - but it's a horror movie and one of the better written ones of the year.
It surprised me, but it felt like a throwback films like the Monster Squad. And if the very same movie was made live-action most would probably consider it too scary for kids. highly recommended |

Not horror, but filled with the best kind of dark fairy-tale elements and great gore and the best movie I saw in 2006...PAN'S LABYRINTH
also The Descent Slither Feast and Hostel - not great, but my script was considered too taboo and disgusting until Hostel came out, so I owe one to Eli! |
i think Silent Hill was my favorite of the past year.
Feast was pretty high up there for pure entertainment value as well. |
1 Silther
2 Final Destination 3 3 Feast 4 The Hills have Eyes 5 Scary movie 4 6 Hostel not seen The Descent Silent Hill See No Evil Stay Alive |
