The Departed vs. Infernal Affairs
So yesterday I bought the Infernal Affairs trilogy boxset, and today I finally managed to grab The Departed.
Now, I havent seen any of these movies. They both sound great, but the only reason I really want to see IA is because I really want to see Departed. My Question: Which should I watch first? Im not asking for which you think is the better movie (though feel free to include your opinion), just which one I should watch first. Im mostly looking forward to The Departed - how would I enjoy it the most? By watching it before or after the original? Im thinking before, but just wanted to hear some opinions. |
I wish I could help you, but I have yet to see Infernal Affairs.
I don't think you'd have a problem watching The Departed first, especially with the Academy Awards coming up soon. |
You'll probably enjoy The Deprated more if you watch it first. But I hate the idea of watching the remake before the original. hey're both fine films, the Departed is just more accessible and has better acting.
but why? why? did he use Gimme Shelter again? Goodfellas, Casino and now this... really weak choice |
I've only seen Infernal affairs.
Found it quite confusing. I'm almost certain that i will like The Departed better, when i get to see it. So the question is, do you think, if you start with The Departed, that you will ever get around to see Infernal affairs, hmm? |
Sadly I have seen none of the above.:(

I thought Departed was tons better than IA, but IA is still pretty great. I'd say watch the original first

But I actually understand why Scorsese used it again...it's his mob movie trademark. He uses trademarks often; he goes through actor phases, and uses Rolling Stones music, most often Gimme Shelter, frequently. It was kind of a "Heee's baaaaaaack" thing...we hadn't seen a solid Scorsese mob movie since 1996. |
HaHa...I have absolutely NO idea what you guys are talking about...I live under a rock with Pinkerton...lol
|
I'd say watch IA first. It was a great film and I enjoyed it very much. The Departed is also a great film, has amazing acting in it and since it is an American film you might enjoy it better but I think both films are great.

What he said. |
I just saw Infernal Affairs and loved it. I have not seen The Departed yet but plan to buy it soon. I love Scorsese so I figure I probably can't go wrong with it even though I don't really care for DiCraprio and can't figure out why Scorsese would use him again.

I finally got around to seeing The Departed. I was not impressed. In fact, I was extremely disappointed. For a movie directed by my favorite director and with one of my favorite actors (Nicholson), I found it surprisingly weak. Infernal Affairs was better.
Did I give The Departed a fair chance? Actually, I don't think I have ever wanted to like a movie more than I wanted to like this one. Yes, I can't stand DiCapprio. I thought he was terrible in this and in Blood Diamond as well. But I can't honestly say that The Departed would have been much better had his role been played by someone else (Blood Diamond would have been better with a suitable male lead). At any rate, I am glad I didn't follow the barrage of blind buy advice on this one. |
