Question Concerning Cannibal Holocaust
I have this movie but have yet to watch it. When it comes to humans I can take it all and actually enjoy it. I could watch someone get tortured in front of my eyes and it wouldn't bother me at all. But one thing I cannot take is animal cruelty. I don't know why, but I was just born with a heart for animals but yet I could give a shit about people, I dont understand why. If there is a spider in my room I have to take it outside, I can't kill it. Anyways, what I am getting too is I want to see this movie but I heard not only is there animal cruelty but I heard it was 100% real. I was just wondering if that is true and if it is I'm gonna have to pass as much as I want to see this.

Don't worry, all the human death is real but the animal killing is faked.

I don't think any of it other than the animal killing is real. |
So the animal killings are real?

The animal killings are all real.

Shit, thats fucked up. I really want to see this movie because I know its a history maker but I just can't handle that. Please tell me his ass at least got sued.

I don't like animal killings, but I could take that better than a rape scene. A lot of my female friends have been raped by random people and even their fathers and such. I hate people like that. |
He never got sued over it (as far as I know) but many countries did cite cruelty against animal laws to ban Cannibal Holocaust. It was also banned in many countries for its gore and graphic rape scenes.

I wonder if I saw something back in my childhood that fucked me up like this. I should talk to my parents because I'm curious. I guess I could watch it and skip the animal scenes. How many scenes of that are there?
|
No clue. I have it, but never can bring myself to watch it.
|
I wasn't aware the US ever banned the film but it is possible. The producers of Cannibal Holocaust have claimed to be banned in almost 60 countries, but I think that is likely exaggerrated to better "hype up" the movie.
I know the UK and Germany still ban the original version and only allow a heavily cut version. |
It isn't something I look forward to watching.
It is however something I think all horror fans should see. It's something with real death and shows real horror. Not to mention that with all the hype around it, there need to be people to talk it back down to just a movie, not a great achievment. |

* A large turtle (about 45 cms long) is captured in the water and dragged to shore, where it is then decapitated and its limbs and shell removed. The actors proceed to cook and eat the turtle. * A large spider is killed with a machete. * The killing of a snake with a machete. * A squirrel monkey is captured by a native actor portraying a tribesman, who cuts the monkey's face off with a machete while it is struggling and then eats the brains. * A pig is kicked and then killed with a rifle when shot in the head by an actor. * The killing of several bugs located inside a prop-skull. |

Shady, if the actual animal killings disturb you, you will really be mad at the reasons behind them. When the film was made during a time it was growing unpopular for filmmakers to stage such animal death scenes in Italy, and the use of such scenes were intended to attract controversy.

bloodrayne, shady asked a question...I was just answering. ;)

I'm just saying, get real people...They're ANIMALS...Do you think that their children are crying over their deaths?...I mean, cuz if they ARE, we can eat THEM, too...

But I can understand why some people would really get upset at this stuff. Let's be honest. These animals deaths were mainly for exploitative reasons ($$$) than for food....yea, the natives ate the animals....they had more sense than the Italian movie producers/actors. |
Animals deserve to live their lives free from suffering and exploitation. People look at animals as some thing that have no feelings. Animals have the ability to suffer in the same way and to the same degree that humans do. They feel pain, pleasure, fear, frustration, loneliness, and motherly love. Whenever we consider doing something that would interfere with their needs, we are morally obligated to take them into account. If I could take my life to stop the cruelty of animals I would do it in a heartbeat.

Are you a vegetarian or something? Some vegetarians will eat fish...Is it because they can't pet them, so that makes it okay? |

Shady, this is one you'll probably wanna skip. I know it's been covered already, but I'll reiterate... I'm not a vegetarian or an animal rights person, but the animal slaughter in this movie still made me a bit uncomfortable. Then you take into consideration all the brutally violent rape scenes and the most realistic penis hacking you'll ever see and you've got yourself one pretty damn disturbing film. I watched it with my main horror watching buddy, Nick, and my wife and all 3 of us felt so dirty after watching it that we were compelled to put in Finding Nemo.
