The Devils Rejects
This movie, in my opinion, is one of the best horror movies I have seen for a very long time. The ending.... Oh, the fucking FANTASTIC ending! Ha ha! I have not been so gripped by an ending ever. Ever. Any other people with views on this?

i was put off it cause i didn't like house of a thousand corpses. is it anything like that? i mean in its style and atmosphere not story line
|
While house of a thousand corpses was unrealistic, had average performances and no character development, this is truly brutal, uncompromising and brilliantly acted. You really should see it.

i have heard a lot of good things so i'll get round to watching it eventually, but i still have to get through these recent purchases :- ichi the killer, vampires, the ghost, kairo, angelheart, audition, black xmas and a tale of two sisters. it may seem like quite a lot of movies not to have watched but every time there is a general consensus on this site that something is brilliant i have to buy it; also, i am awaiting the imminent arrival of pan's labyrinth

Devil's Rejects is more of an homage to the exploitation film.

Women in prison flicks;) and rape films like"I Spit on Your Grave". |
Devils Rejects was pretty good, I had been suffering insomnia for a few days prior to watching it and managed to sleep after watching that night. But I had nightmare about captain Spalding.

The Devil's Rejects is a fantastic film. Tony, it couldn't be less like House of 1000 Corpses (though I liked them both). |

SPOILER i just wish he had've been one of the bad guys. i would like to see him make a reappearance in another movie. does anyone know the actors film boigraphy? |
loved it, however after about its 5th viewing or so, i started to notice a lot of flaws. still good though.

Great film and very creative idea to use 70s influence. That is one of the reasons why I watched it was because it was diffrent then the HOTC film. ^^ I love the characters and you have to say the sherif was just as bad if not worse.

The Devil's Rejects is my favorite movie. I love the ending, it always makes me cry even though I've seen it over and over. How many horror flicks do THAT to people? :) I love the characters, especially Otis. He is sooooo damn sexy (ok, he may have a few bad habits, but so what). ;) :D

I hated The Devil's Rejects. The best scene is the opening police raid when the rejects don the iron masks and armor. And there are no Chicken/ Gas Station scenes, so there seems to be a disconnect to Corpses. Also Karen Black didn't sign on to make Rejects for a reason, because she knew it was a dog and she was right. Every time the rejects speak we have to hear that childish non-humorous sexual lingo- lame. And the Lynard Skynard ending is supposed to be dramatic like the audience cares what happens to the Rejects. It just didn't work... sorry blokes, but I'm right about of of this...

I think it was an excellent film; and to a lot of people's surprise... so did the critics. Even Roger Ebert acknowledged the quality of this movie - it's a rarity that he rates a horror film even decent, let alone four stars. It was very different from House of 1000 Corpses, which is neither a good or bad thing, since I loved them both. I can't say which I prefer, but I can say that TDR is the better film.
As for the ending... it was effective. It's one of those rare times where the villians are the heroes and the heroes the villians. You actually care about these people who are doing such vile things - my mother was repulsed at how much she cared for them, even though she had just witnessed everything terrible they had done. She's not sinister, evil, or a horror fan - so it's not like she automatically liked them because they were baddies. The ending geniuenly matters because this film does a lot right, exp. character developement. I didn't like it the first time I watched it at 2 in the morning, but I loved it the second time. It seems like your convinced it's a terrible movie, DEATHH... so I don't think watching it a second time would sway your opinion. |

You're right about "of of" this, as usual. |
why do people forget to insert a 'spoiler' alert when talking movie content, particularly endings. oh well, looks like i'm leaving this movie for a while.

Both were outstanding movies. I like them both equally, I have no favorite. These two movies hold some of my favorite movie quotes ever, majority of them coming from good old Captain Spaulding.
"Fuck yo mama, fuck yo sista, fuck yo grandma" You just can't top that. Rob Zombie did an outstanding job on these films and I am really looking forward to seeing what he is going to do with Halloween. |
Met Sid Haig and have to say he is a pretty cool cat. If anything I prefered The Devil's Rejects because it brought a little more plott to the situation. With HOTC you kind of lose some of the plott and just get a fast passed ending that explainded nothing. If it explained more I would have been happy. I did like it for the campyness of the film.

i love both, i love sherri moon and eric daniels so ill watch either or both

I just watched this movie and I was pleased. It had the brutality of its prequel but much more involved. Rob Zombie I think has really shined as a director especially so early on. It was a entertaining movie that simply improved on House a lot and thats all I asked for. |
Without threatening anyone's personal worldview and stating my own opinion, I liked this movie and thought it was far and away better than House. I liked House...okay. It was a bit over the top, intentionally I know, and was an homage to that exploitation, way out style. I spent a good part of it wanting to shoot Sheri Moon and just stop her from doing that annoying giggling thing. Overall though, I enjoyed it. I did not think a sequel with that same manic level would work so I put off seeing DR. When I finally watched it, I was really pleasantly surprised. They toned alot down. Not the violence so much as the overall feel and this one lost that whole teen movie ambience.
It forced me to do something that I am usually only able to do in revenge films by seeing the killers as people. Very, very screwed up and better off dead people, but the juxtapositioning of them as this family unit who cared for one another with the heinous, repulsive acts they could commit on others without ever seeing them as people was really intriguing and disturbing. I applaud Rob for having the guts to kill them off at the end instead of saving the possibility of part 3 for a rainy day. I'm really loving him as a director because he's a true fan of the genre and it does show. He manages to give nods to all his favorites without being plagiaristic. |
i didn't really like either of these. i just don't think they go anywhere. in fact, they lose their way. i think they could've been condensed into one movie. but if i had to pick a winner it would be house
