eli roth v mel gibson

i am remaking cannibal holocaust and i was wondering who to give the directing job to

Unaboner3000 03-19-2007 03:10 PM

Uh.....no way in hell Eli should touch it....but Mel, this kinda film is right up his alley.

Posher778 03-19-2007 03:11 PM

Uhh Tarantino

The Mothman 03-19-2007 03:44 PM

this is funny.

LadyFrost 03-19-2007 03:50 PM

Actually I would have gone for Tarintino or even Rodriguez...but Mel is a good choice as well.

what about del torro? i suppose any of them could do a good job, it just depends on the style you want. i think gibsons style might make it too 'real' if you know what i mean. on reflection, perhaps roth or zombie or another OTT splatter fest director should do the ultimate video nasty.

I would actually think you would want a director that would make it real for this film. After all, that was the whole point from the original director....instead of the usual cannabilistic cheesey gore-fest, make a believable and (ultimately) more disturbing flick.

swiss tony 03-19-2007 11:21 PM

by todays standards the original wasn't believable visually and i found it hard going. so if mel gibson brought his effects team and directorial style to this movie, where the story is hypothetically possible, i think it would be fucking horrendous. maybe i am building a case for him doing it, but it would probably be better to have a movie that people will come back to rather than a 'watch it once so you can say you've seen it', which is what the passion and the original are. lets face it, there isn't too many people on this site that go on about how frequently they watch cannibal holocaust and how dear it is to them

are you sure you're ready for it 'sugar tits'? lol

I've actually yet to see the original Cannibal Halocaust. My boyfriend torrented it the other day because we can't find it anywhere so I guess I'll see it soon. From what I've heard of the original though I would have said Terrintino because he obvioulsy does a good job on gore. However, thinking it over and taking your opinions into account Mel seems like a really good pick. Making a movie like that realistic would just be so much better and disturbing.

Mictlantechutli 03-21-2007 07:19 AM

I'd love to see Mel tackle this kind of material.

He has this whole "a man is judged by his ability to endure suffering" thing flowing through his entire body of work. Apocalypto was super cool. He'd make a cannibal movie gross as shit and all about the suffering.

swiss tony 03-21-2007 07:56 AM

dunno about mel. he strikes me as a deep thinker. cannibal holocaust is pretty much mindless. and like i said before, this movie was almost unbearable when made with 1970's standard production. i don't even want to think about how much worse it would be if it were as real as the passion

Well, as long as the travellers that are eaten aren't Jewish or martyrs, it should go okay. Can I cast a vote that Roth directs and Mel GETS eaten?

Unaboner3000 03-23-2007 09:57 PM

I think Mel would definitely make a much more disgusting film....yet, I think he would also do a better job of making a moral statement in the film as well...sort of a "who are the real cannibals" and "media is evil" sorta theme.

swiss tony 03-24-2007 12:00 AM

a lot of good points made here. i get the impression that neither of these two guys really get the juices flowing. so if you could pick any director ever, who would it be?

AsylumSeeker 03-24-2007 11:13 AM

Kubrick, if he weren't dead, could do some seriously interesting things with that.

.......wow. I totally didn't know he died...

AsylumSeeker 03-24-2007 11:18 AM

Yeah, he died making Eyes Wide Shut. I think the shame killed him.
