Jaws vs. Deep Blue Sea
Hey guys, it's me again!
I was just listening to people saying that Jaws was a really good movie, I think it being fairly on the same lines as Deep Blue Sea, I'll probably check it out for sure. Anyways, I've seen Deep Blue Sea and it was definatly one of my favourite Horror movies (I forgot to mention it on my previous post). So i made this thread to compare and look at the opinions of other horror movie lovers, and see which people think is better! discuss. |
I know I will be crucified by all of you for this but I enjoyed Deep Blue Sea much more than Jaws. Jaws, in my opinion, is a very boring movie other than a few scenes and I never got into it at all. I really enjoyed Deep Blue Sea and it's a movie I could watch over and over again. The reason Jaws is so hyped is because its a classic and was really the first ever shark movie.

lmfao. jaws.
|
jaws is one of the greats. its one of those movies that psychologically affected those that saw it at the time. in the same way that psycho and blair witch did. mass avoidance of the perceived danger. with jaws the sea, with psycho the hotel shower, with blair witch the woods. you make me feel old. can't believe i'm conversing with someone who has only heard of jaws. in short, comparing the two is like comparing 2001:a space odyssey to return of the jedi. i do envy you in a way. i've seen most of the already made movies that i wanna see whereas you've obviously only scratched the surface. good luck!:)

you're joking, right? You mean a shark isn't scary, it has to be a smart shark?
Fuck that piece of shit movie. The only thing worth a damn in that one was Sam Jackson's death - which was epic and hilarious, but there is no comparison between these movies. Jaws - 9/10 Deep Blue Sea - 5/10 |
Mostly I agree w/ Roderick, but not as passionately... Jaws is much better in my opinion. No offense but anyone who likes Deep Blue Sea better must be young. Anyone who has never seen Jaws is definitely young!
Jaws does have some bad scenes, most of which got edited out of the theatrical release. Like the killer whale that gets killed by the shark and washes up on the beach. It just seemed fake... My favorite scene is the hole in the boat and the head floating. They sort of reused that idea in Jaws III... |

Deep blue sea was such a piece of crap, I can't understand why anyone bothers to still talk about it!!!
|
I may be only 14 but I have been a huge fan of Jaws as long as I can remember. Although it got boring in parts, the beginning was pure genius, every scene on the boat was great and the rest was good because it made it clear everyone underestimated and even doubted the existence of this shark. Jaws 2 was only 1% worse. I admit Jaws III sucked but I still rather enjoyed Jaws 4. If you haven't seen jaws or barely know of it then you really need to soon. Deep blue sea was a bit ridiculous. Super smart sharks? Yeh right.
|
Jaws 2 even owns Deep Blue Sea. It ain't no work of genius but it's a pretty darn competent shark monster movie!
|
Jaws is the ultimate shark film. No Deep Blue Sea can ever come close to it. The main difference is that Deep Blue Sea is heavily CGI-reliant, while Jaws in its day made the shark look and feel real. People stopped going into the ocean after watching it, and thats some damn effect it had. For a film to have such an effect on the audience, Jaws is unique. Deep Blue Sea is not.
|
I actually like Deep blue sea but JAWS is just outstanding, best film ever made.
|
I'm not that big of a Jaws fan, never really got to me. That said, it's leaps and bounds better than Deep Blue Sea. Jaws was a smarter film with more class and was the better film in every aspect.

They are both good, but Jaws is the better movie. Deep Blue Sea was more mindlessly enjoyable, but Jaws is the better movie. Also, DBS isn't a horror movie, it's adventure. It's really an adventure with jump scares, think about it. It's no horror. |

Time to get it back on track then?:) |

DEEP BLUE SEA has some moments of brilliant writing (surrounded by completely shitty writing). Like the stretcher dropping in to the water, that was wild fun. And Sam Jackson getting killed... But most of the rest was dopey. However I did think it was cool that they chose mako sharks instead of the traditional great white, or even tiger sharks. Personnally I think bull sharks (zambese in Africa, sorry spelling). Bull sharks are the ones that can swim way up fresh water rivers and streams. One was once caught like 1,000 miles up the Mississippi river. Think about that next time you are in a river...

@Rod- everyone has a bad movie they love;) |
I have to admit, the scene withthe strecher was clever, if it happened to me though, I would so sue the NHS. (In england, thats's what we have. The national health service. They take a small amount from our pay checks and all the operations are then covered, as opposed to americas "Pay as you get hurt") In most ways it's better but with all of the foreigners coming over who havent yet payed into it and getting treatment it's losing money. Not racism, it is just a fact. Often they move here to get treatment for whatever disease they have.

still scares me now. |
i like them both just as much. and you have to remebr when jaws was made the special effects back then wasent that advanced. so for there time period it was the best. they beat deep blue sea in one area. the shark in jaws in my oppinion was more real looking then the computer animated ones in deepblue sea. but i love them both i own jaws and i want to by deep blue sea. i also loved growing up the movie orca any one see that?

There were a few cool shots of CG sharks in Deep Blue Sea. But for some strange reason that movie has not found its way onto my shelf!
The rubber shark stuff still works better for me...that cage diving scene that they dragged the mechanical shark into the Esther Williams tank for...those shots of that big rubber shark ramming the cage. For a few frames, you can even see the base that the mechanism is mounted on...it's like a black squarish shape underneath the shark. But the effect is still very chilling. |
