Pumpkins

When is the time to carve a pumpkin? I have never done it before but am going to this year... It's probably not to soon now.. When do you guys do them?

Got any pictures to post here of pumpkins you have carved in the past?

Disease 10-12-2007 12:07 PM

GorePhobia 10-12-2007 12:26 PM

Freak 10-12-2007 12:33 PM

I may carve one this year.Just do a classic scary grin and what not but I have seen some very cool ones.I seen one posted some where that a guy did of the Gears of War symbol with the crank and skull. It was pretty bad ass.I'll try to find it and if I can I'll post the pic on here.

novakru 10-12-2007 01:30 PM

We accidentally grew a pumpkin patch this year, so I guess we're carving our own.

why type of pumpkins accidentally grow?

Roderick Usher 10-12-2007 03:11 PM

They rot within 3-4 days of carving, so you'll want to hold off until just a few days before Halloween...unless of course, you want to do more than one batch of Jack-o-lanterns this year.

This is what we did last year.

You can extend the life of the carved pumpkin by rubbing Vaseline on the carved flesh and the insides, thus keeping oxygen from getting to it and slowing the rate of decay.

Disease 10-12-2007 03:13 PM

I had one a friend gave me a few years ago, I let it sit in the backyard and get warped by the sun, I thought it ended up looking better....

But, I shale hold off. The one I've got is rather small, but I've seen some huge ones latley, I might get a few of them as well...

Dante'sInferno 10-12-2007 03:21 PM

I've never carved a pumpkin.:(

Easily remedied, my friend. Why not go grab one today.

Only thing more fun than carving one is smashing it afterward:D

missmacabre 10-12-2007 03:30 PM

wish I was this cool

Disease 10-12-2007 03:31 PM

That's just attachted to the pumpkin though I think...

You let last year's pumpkin rot until it falls off the porch into the grass.

Well, it looks like about 7 will be ready by Halloween...we may make frankenpumpkins from the baby green ones.

neverending 10-12-2007 06:33 PM

How soon a pumpkin rots depends on the weather in your area. If it's getting cool where you are you can carve a pumpkin a few weeks before Halloween and you'll still have a cool looking jack when the big night arrives.

That's pretty freakin sweet.Wish I was that creative.

dewaholic 10-12-2007 09:29 PM

We have always done it the day of halloween. But we, as in not me. I hate the smell of pumpkin & I will not touch pumpkin guts. My ideal jack o lanterns are the fake ones that you can but at the stores.

BTW awesome pics

pumpkins rotting? try freezing them. never did it myself but it seems like a logical solution.

I did one the other year with it's insides coming out of it's mouth like it was being sick.

logical?

who's gonna see them in the freezer?

knife_fight 10-13-2007 08:58 PM

we buy our pumpkins early and sit them out on the front porch for the whole month, then carve them up on Halloween. it may sound silly, but I like the idea of the neighbors getting used to seeing these pumpkins sitting on the porch, then Halloween night those same pumpkins are all carved up. then the next day they are gone (into the trashcan). in my mind it's like those pumpkins are just sitting there waiting for their big night, then it comes and, next thing they know, BAM! they're in the garbage next to cold coffee grounds.

novakru 10-16-2007 05:47 AM

Some little shit or shits stole some of our pumpkins...we have 3 orange ones and a baby green left:mad:

I live one door down from a fucking state trooper:rolleyes:

ferretchucker 10-16-2007 06:54 AM

There's something wrong with english pumpkins this year and it's hard to keep them yellow!

EDIT: Make that orange. :D

Nikkif8 10-16-2007 07:35 AM

Carving pumpkins is a pain in the ass! I usually set them on the porch for a couple weeks then carve them a few days before Halloween or something.

D -post pics of your first carving OK???

Disease 10-16-2007 07:41 AM

Yeah, I will, I might go get another one tonight, I saw some massive ones in the shop down the road...

ferretchucker 10-16-2007 07:46 AM

We thought it would be funny to line it with paper, deodrant and some of that white stuff you put on barbecues. It wasn't.
