Suggestions welcome

Life is slowly back to normal-ish after a terrible October. So I have a bit of spare time right now (hopefully for a while).

And mulling over my options (since it seems to be a saturation point for purely movie-based tourneys)...I looked over one of BR's recent suggestions.

And that was for a tournament of the best deaths in a horror movie.

Now, I have been researching into it for awhile. And I have ALMOST enough to start it either - A) Right after the Revenge one, or B) Right now, in parallel to the other one.

Also, other than youtube, are there any other good sites which offer movie clips for the purpose? I d like to put links for all of those listed (like Sam did in his tourney) so that anyone who cant recall the death scene, can refresh their memory.

I know a lot of you will be very excited about this...and just in case I dont miss out on any good ones (classic, modern or recent)...suggestions are welcome.:)

the_real_linda 11-07-2007 08:26 AM

sounds cool but i dunno bout clips.... other will probs know good sites for them but try youtube until then

_____V_____ 11-07-2007 08:35 AM

Am into it as we type. 24 clips so far...;)

(Although I can't find the helicopter scene from 28 Weeks Later yet, the "climax"-tic first death from Basic Instinct, and the head punch to the mutant mother of The Hills Have Eyes 2)

I ll find em sooner or later.

So...any good death-suggestions?

Disease 11-07-2007 08:49 AM

Megavideo sometimes has ones you can't find on youtube... but over all it is not as good when it comes to the amount of content.

I'm glad things are looking up to an extent for you and your family..

I'd be happy if you started it now, for sure...

Especially with Gores tournament coming up later on..

Disease 11-07-2007 08:51 AM

I like the one from Aligator, I think it was a cop, got biten in half or his legs bitten of near his car.. it's probably hard to find though.

_____V_____ 11-07-2007 08:59 AM

Thanks, mate. I ll check out megavideo, for sure.

Alligator...now thats a good one. Let me see if I can find it...keep thinking.

Nope, no limits. As long as the death is good, gory and awesome.

There are several good ones in F13 and NOES series. Final Destinations, Saws, Hellraisers...all are loaded with em.

Of course there are really good ones in others too. I am looking down my list (upto 141 now)...and wondering if I didnt miss out on any really good/popular one.

Edit - all 5 mentioned above, are in.;)

Keep em coming though, helps me revise my list too.

The sleeping bag death is my favorite from the Friday the 13th films.
Another is the kid getting squashed by the plate of glass in Final Destination 2. Also there's The Omen when the guy is decapitated. The beginning of Suicide Club when the school girls jump in front of the subway train.

Oh really looking forward to this one by the way. Excellent idea.

jenna26 11-07-2007 10:03 AM

Oh and Kirk getting hit with the hammer in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

tic 11-07-2007 10:08 AM

the axe across the face in "wrong turn"
the girl who shoots herself in the mouth in TCM remake

Great idea V can't wait to see this one start.

How about the death of the college kid at the beginning of TCM 2?

jenna26 11-07-2007 10:31 AM

Opera when the woman gets shot through the peephole in the door.

bwind22 11-07-2007 10:33 AM

Outboard motor death from Zombie Holocaust

Psycom5k 11-07-2007 10:35 AM

One of my favorite films has always been Harold & Maude. The scene where she dies has such emotional impact... I've seen the film over 20 times and it makes me cry every time. However, it's a tender meaningful death, and as such probably has no place in this gore filled paen to violent endings.

_____V_____ 11-07-2007 11:14 AM

Great suggestions, guys. Keep em coming.

Doc Faustus 11-07-2007 11:16 AM

Some good nonfranchise ones: Cat from Hell in Tales from the Darkside:the Movie, the conclusion of Tenebre, Barry Convex in Videodrome, sausage press in Wizard of Gore, french fries in Gore Gore Girls, the "horse race" in Two Thousand Maniacs, a surprisingly cool face melting in Godzilla vs. Hedorah, scalding water in Deep Red, Tarantino in Planet Terror, the very ironic and grisly death of the seamstress in Opera

neverending 11-07-2007 11:43 AM

Edward G. Robinson being gunned down on the steps in Little Ceaser. An iconic movie death. "Mother of mercy- is this the end of Rico?"

Bonnie & Clyde's death in Bonnie & Clyde.

stygianwitch 11-07-2007 11:45 AM

Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 - the guy sent to investigate when the nuclear plant goes awry, he finds a (not so) dead rat, it comes back to life, crawls up inside his radiation suit and starts munching on his throat

ferretchucker 11-07-2007 11:48 AM

I don't mind waiting and you still deserve a rest. But I'd go for youtube. I like the idea of refreshing our memories and people hwho havent seen the death before can judge fairly.

Disease 11-07-2007 01:00 PM

Jason Vorheas getting hacked up in The final chapter...

I was just watching the exorcist doco... Made me realise you must have Dimmy rolling down the stairs.

You don't say.

What about from Jason x, where he freezers the chicks face before smashing it.

Despare 11-07-2007 04:45 PM

The spearing from Twitch of the Death Nerve
Girls jumping into train from Suicide Circle (Suicide Club)
Flag kill from The Hills Have Eyes remake

Does it have to be from horror? If not the overweight diner from Monty Python's The Meaning of Life.

I've got a ton more but there's a few. ;)

paws the great 11-07-2007 05:14 PM

Raft scene from The Burning.

Throat slashing scene and pitchfork murder from The Prowler.

The blood bath scene from Hostel 2.

Despare 11-07-2007 05:39 PM

Oh yeah, I can't NOT mention the shotgun scene from Maniac.

newb 11-07-2007 06:51 PM

Sounds like a fun tourny V. soooooo many to choose from.

something you don't see everyday....the toilet scene from Street Trash.

alkytrio666 11-07-2007 07:25 PM

The merry crucification in Life of Brian.

The scene where the things attack the grandma in The Brood.

The endings from Bonnie and Clyde, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and The Devil's Rejects.

The dummy murder in Profondo rosso (Deep Red).

The scene in Inferno where that man gets devoured by rats.

The poor sheep that gets blown up in Bad Taste.

The ending from The Departed.

(One of my favorites): When the kid gets his head punched clean off in Friday the 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan.

When that dude gets stapled to the wall in Halloween.

The very ending of An American Werewolf in London, and also the beginning, when Jack dies.

...alot of these are non-horror deaths...if you aren't looking for these, please disregard them.

Kane_Hodder 11-07-2007 07:31 PM

This will be an awesome tourney. I can hardly wait.:)

_____V_____ 11-07-2007 07:46 PM

Great suggestions, folks, each one of them. Thanks for the overwhelming response.

It is indeed best deaths in horror...because there are so MANY to choose in the genre alone. If it was a wider tournament...well, the scope of it would get far bigger.

And now looking through the replies, I ll have a hard time limiting it to 128 (for tournament purposes). So, dont be surprised if some of them dont make it.;)

roshiq 11-07-2007 08:27 PM

Death scene of Eric at TCM:Beginning where LeatherFace rip his face off.

and I also love this scene:
