Here's a Question

I just realized, that most movies seem to be based on a novel or short story, or comic, or... disney ride. So i'm asking, what do you think are the best film's that are not based on any pre written/built work?

X¤MurderDoll¤X 03-20-2008 12:36 PM

Best: Possession

Posher778 03-20-2008 12:38 PM

Pulp Fiction has to be one of them.
Donnie Darko
Kill Bill
Alien(s)
Memento
28 Days Later

I don't think any of those were from anything else, but those are some good ones.

in terms of regular film - citizen kane

in horror i'd say most of the greats have no source material - the dead quadrilogy, halloween, nightmare on elm street, etc.

Most of the greats? Frankenstein, Dracula, Phantom of the Opera, Hunchback of Notre Dame, EA Poe adaptations, etc., etc.....

Zero 03-20-2008 03:06 PM

allow me to clarify for my picky friend - most of the 'modern' greats

and puh-lease don't cite bram stoker's dracula or that wretched kenneth branagh frankenstein

Those are all adaptations of something though.

Anyway, my favorites would probably be Clerks, Donnie Darko, and Pulp Fiction.

ea poe adaptations are from writing.... ruling them out. Frankenstein, dracula, phantom of the opera... all pre written.

Yes you are, Those movies were awesome.

GorePhobia 03-20-2008 05:27 PM

I have to agree with Clerks, Donnie Darko, and Pulp Fiction.

I also think Garden State and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are amazing. I think they are both original and not taken from anything else.

Psycom5k 03-20-2008 05:29 PM

Meh, I can't really add much myself, people pretty much said it all. I guess I could throw in The Descent, and I was thinking Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but isn't that a book?

And she likes SNL skits with JT, also JT's Black Snake Moan.

That actually might explain the QT hate.;)

alkytrio666 03-21-2008 10:11 AM

Yep, Pulp Fiction and Garden State are wonderful. The Sting and Easy Rider have fantastic, original stories.

The Mad Monk 03-21-2008 02:41 PM

It's harder than I thought to come up with great films that weren't based on a book.. A few good ones already mentioned, like Night of the Living Dead and 28 Days Later. I'd also add:

Blood On Satan's Claw
Eye Of The Devil
The Exorcist
Witchfinder General
Rasputin The Mad Monk

Some of those are based on real-life events, if that's OK.
