Funny Story

My kids just got pet turtles and they treat them like dogs. They are always holding them and trying to teach them "tricks".Last night my little boy was playing with his and it decided to close its shell, with his fingers inside.I didn't see what had happened so when i told him to put it in its cage i wondered why he wouldn't take his hand out. When i asked him why, he said the turtle won't let go of me.I thought he was just making it up so he could play with the turtle. He went to bed like i told him and when i went in to give him a kiss, the turtle was still there. My poor kid was telling the truth!I thought i would share this with you guys, even though i look like a bad person for not listening.:o

So, how did you get the fingers out of the turtle? Didja have to pry it open or something?

Yeh... kids and pets aren't a good combo a lot of the time. Doesn't sound like the turtle would be having a very good time.

I feel bad for the turtle because I know turtles and they're not dog-type pets. :(

They like to be left alone doing their own thing right?

Yeah... My downstairs neighbors' kids just lost one of their ferrets this winter; they left the door to the apartment open and it probably froze outside. Now it's little ferret mate is all alone (which is tragic because ferrets are social animals). :(

The turtles are pretty happy! The kids let them go.

pinkfloyd45769 05-04-2008 04:58 PM

The turtle was fine..i'm the one that was about to have a heart attack!I hate touching things like that.

Kids are ok with animals if the parents teach them to respect the animal.Mine are great about that. What i meant about them treating them like dogs was that they wanted to sleep with them and teach them to roll over.I think they thought the turtles were kinda boring.

Yeah, and small turtles are rather delicate...they're not "play with" pets like dogs are.
